Reasons Not To Beat Yourself Up Today
- At most, we will only be two games out of our division after tonight.
- There are still 14 games remaining.
- It seems Chris Johnson will not be having a sophomore slump.
- 5 out of 6 divisional games still remain to be played. Those are the best opportunities to gain ground.
- Our goal before the season was to be 3-3 going into the bye week. Obviously yesterday's game set us back, but it is still possible.
- The team historically plays better as the underdog.
- The two games we lost were by 3 points each. If not for an overtime coin flip and a botched punt coverage play, we could be 2-0 today.
- It's just two losses. In 2007 we made the playoffs after losing three in a row. In 2002 we made it to the AFC Championship after starting 1-4, with two of those losses coming against less than .500 squads.
- Our offense is worlds better than last year.
- Maybe we're getting our losses out of the way now. I'm sure all of us here would much rather end the season with a winning streak that start with a winning streak.
- As Sam Page already said, the teams that usually begin 0-2 are bad. We are not a bad team. "As strong as a team as we are on paper, you have to go out and prove it. We have yet to prove that we're the team we think we are,'' Keith Bulluck said.
- The two games we played were tough. The first game was against the defending world champions in their house, who treated the game as another Super Bowl and wanted serious revenge after last year. Yesterday's game was against a team that also treats their games against us as a Super Bowl.
- This weekend's game for the Titans will be similar to the one the Texans played yesterday. We will have to give it our all.
- The players understand. Jevon Kearse said, "Maybe we’re just getting our losses out of the way right now. Maybe we’re going to finish up strong. Whatever it is, we’ve got to hurry up and get to it." Nick Harper said, "We were not where we were supposed to be all day on the field. I don’t know why, but we didn’t show up today. We know we should have beaten that team and it shouldn’t have even been close. Not only was it close, but they beat us.’’ KVB said, "We can't let anything steal our confidence but in a division like we have, we're already 0-and-2 and we've got to play catch-up,"
- Jared Cook is still not completely healthy yet.
- It's just a game! Don't get too stressed.

Nick Harper:
I like how he said “WE” weren’t in the right places yesterday. No. Nick, YOU weren’t in the right places. Everybody else was trying to compensate for your shittiness.
We need to make a move for a cornerback now. Harper is getting too old. We can’t have a corner standing back 20 yards from the LOS every single effing play. The play of the DL hid this weakness last year, but it’s definitly showing now.
Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...

Unfortunately it wasn't just him
Griffin was horrible yesterday. He bit on play action against a run game that wasn’t working.
Griff was just as bad in coverage most of the game
but yes, Harper’s age is more apparent this year than ever.

I think the Titans out played the Texans
For the most part I would say you outplayed the Texans, inparticularly Chris Johnson was nothing short of amazing! That said our Texans one the turnover battle (all be it with some luck and a funky rule) and that was the difference. Good luck next week with the Jets, and let me say you better be tuned up to keep KC from getting killed. Those Jets D looks nothing less than scarry. Although I do think that CJ might be able to expose some weaknesses in the Jets D.
You can't fix Dumb
I would say JOHNSON outplayed the Texans....
We abused the rest of the team for the most part….

please
we won both line battles. Deep passes and a bad turnover were the reason we lost this game, plain and simple.
I said in the 5 questions with BRB that the key match-up would be our safties vs. Andre Johnson, and that was the match-up that killed us.

What I was trying to say is that...
…CJ was your entire offense other than a TD by Washington and a FG.
Take away AJ and CJ and that game is 21-10 Texans.
And you didn’t win the line battles. I’m not sure which game you watched, but when someone goes 300+ yards and 4 TD’s on you, you didn’t win the line battle.

So the Texans won the line battle?
With CJ getting 200 yards rushing?

My post refers to the Titan D-Line versus the Texan O-Line....
Neither D-Line had a stellar outing.
I was pointing out that MCM’s claim of winning both line battles was erroneus.

I said the secondary gave up those yards, not the line
Schaub got knocked around all day, but to his credit he shrugged it off and got back up. Our guys weren’t even really covering for 3 seconds. Slaton was a complete non-factor, so those are the reasons I’d call the line battle a win.

I see your point on that.
My thought is that the d-Line failed to get enough penetration to get Schaub out of his rythym. Slaton was stuffed all day long, so kudos on killing the running game. however, Schaub had alot of time to throw the ball and with as talented a receiving corp as we have in Houston, you cannot allow Schaub to get through those checkdowns.
That’s how the Jets beat us.
Consider that we had NO offensive points against the Jets. ZERO. We had a defensive TD.
Quite a difference week to week and it was because the jets were in Schaub’s face all day long.
Anyway, that was my line of thought.

August makes good points..
It’s obvious our D isn’t going to be a dominant one, like last year, but that doesn’t mean we’re still not a good defense. We’re stopping the run, and we’re getting some push. Our D over the years has always been bend, but don’t break, and don’t give up the big plays. Which unfortunately, our secondary has in these two games. Some of it has been from bad play calls, some from miscommunication, and some from just bad individual play. Hopefully it’s mostly correctible, but it’s got to be done soon. On the other hand, our O is far better than in years past, good enough to keep giving us chances to win games.
Another reason not to panic yet
The Steelers led the Titans by 7 points for 0:34 of the game (in the last couple minutes of the first half) – in a game where the Titans missed two FG attempts. The Titans led the game (by 3) for 8:06
The Texans led the Titans by 3 points for 2:11 (again, last couple minutes of the first half) and then by 3 points again in the last 4:15 of the game. The Titans led the game for 5:44 in the first half by 7-14 points, then led by 7 again for 8:38 in the second half.
So in two losses, the Titans had the lead for a combined 22:28, and were trailing for a combined 7:00. In those games, 92% of the time the Titans were trailing, it was by a FG, whereas 64% of the time the Titans were leading, it was by a TD or more.
The way I see it, the Titans are winning more than losing, just at the wrong times. I can write a lot of that off to bad breaks (missed holding calls in the endzone, makeable FGs that were missed, weird calls that affect momentum, etc). Those bad breaks aren’t the result of bad play, for the most part, are not indicative of lack of preparation, have absolutely no bearing on future expectations, and are not likely to continue affecting the team throughout the season.

Covering TEs
Opponents TEs seem to always be open, especially on 3rd and short. The LBs are having a hard time covering them. I would suspect that will be noticed by upcoming opponents and exploited.
Houston covered the screen passes to CJ very well yesterday. I was surprised that a double screen to a TE was not call at some point. Maybe that play is not in the book.
A question whether the offense is worlds better than last year
The term I would use is more explosive. However, that’s not necessarily a good thing unless it’s balanced with consistency. Our lack of ability to control the ball and run the clock down has hurt us both weeks. I figured it was forgivable against Pittsburgh, but against the Texans, you have to have a few times where you get 3 or 4 first downs, even if you still end up punting in the end. Plus 2 Touchdowns on draw plays on 3rd and 19…. Come on. That’s not happening again. A team forgetting to cover Johnson won’t happen again either. I’m not saying that CJ won’t have big plays, it’s what he does, but the Texans were downright retarded in those situations.
In the second half, 4 of our 7 drives were 3 and outs. We gotta get some first downs and kill some clock. Frankly, I think when we take a lead like 21-7, that’s when LenDale is invaluable because he almost always gets positive yardage, whereas Johnson is a bit more boom and bust.
