Houston Texans 34 Tennessee Titans 31 Quick Recap
Well, this isn't the way we all pictured the season starting. The season isn't over, but this team is going to have to find some answers quickly if they are going to salvage it.
All you really need to know about this game is in Matt Schaub's line. He was 25 of 39 for 357 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Titans were very good against the run again only allowing 63 yards, but they aren't going to win any games if they don't get that pass defense fixed. The pass rush and the secondary were both really bad today. That is really all there is to it.
All of that ruined a career day by Chris Johnson.
There will be plenty more to come in the coming hours and days, but for now let it fly in the comments. Let's try and keep it civil though, please.

this happens
I hope this team responds the appropriate way. Texans definitely got away with a lot of out of bounds hits, which led to that fight. NFL needs to review the officiating in this game, not necessarily because the Titans lost, but because that fight was very, very preventable and predictable

No.
It doesn’t happen to a team like the Titans. Maybe something like this happens to a team like the Cardinals that is built to play in shootouts, and you can just shake it off. But, when you’re team is designed around defense and ball control, 34 points in a loss don’t “happen”, at least not to a team that wants to make a good playoff run. There is a reason to be seriously concerned.
This team should never lose when it puts up 31 points. Ever.
Good luck with New York
they are looking like a real contender now.

Worst officiating I've seen in years.
And I’m not even just talking about the bad calls. The refs lost control of that game, and there’s no excuse for it. Anyone buys that no Texans should have been ejected for that fight is an idiot.
Words can’t express how pissed off I am over this game.

yeah, I want to know how Mario Williams threw a punch and got to stay in.
That’s pretty special on the refs part

You can't lose on defense and special teams
and win the game. This game is proof of that. -2 on turnovers and killing yourself on field position equals a loss more than not.

Okay so is the "game manager" era over yet?
Vince can have two turnovers and WAY more upside than this. KC… dropping the ball for no reason? Awesome. Way to to “manage”.
"Game manager"
was over several years ago. You can’t have a QB incapable of running a two-minute offense running a team designed for pulling-out close games at the end.
Though it appears we’re not designed that way anymore…….

As I can already see from the recap, Collins is going to get another pass – AGAIN.
dropped the ball untouched inside of two minutes – cost us the game. No mention of Collins as even minutely to blame.

When you give up 34 points to the Texans at home
bloody well he shouldn’t. I don’t care who’s QBing, that was a dismal defensive performance. Worrying about KC after this game is like worrying about a hangnail after losing your arm.
WE STILL HAD A SHOT
until KC single-handedly killed it.

I’m preemptively pissed-off that everyone is going to give Collins another pass. He has NO accountability, EVER.

he doesnt fumble that ball in that particular moment (alot of ppl dont)

VY had his share of funbles
and interceptions, and etc. When the defense blew 30 plays and KC blew 5 or 6, once again you’re focusing on the wrong thing. They need to spend all their energy on fixing the defense, not the offense.
how about....
a couple of sessions on how to hold the ball when hes “scrambling”. 1 of 6 of those plays….was huge. yeah it was not totally on KC, a majority of it was, and he helped change the momentum for the texans.

You guys are shitting if Vince is in, not so much if KC is. You may not admit it but it’s true.
LMFAO because you actually think VY is going to help the Titans win games.
When, since his Rookie year has VY proven to be a winner? Does he read defenses well? Does he find the open man? Does he make good decisions in the pocket? I submit to you the answer to those questions is no. Honestly I’m not trying to Troll, but I find the fact that you are ready to anoint VY the savior and Collins a failure is laughable at best.

You can reasonably argue that he – KERRY COLLINS – cost us the game all by himself at the end. The same way you could argue Crumpler and/or Contract Year cost us the game single-handedly last year.
Yet he will face no criticism – EVERYONE else will get blame, but not Collins. Never Kerry Collins….

ppl are so quick to....
take away the credit than to give it to VY. i can tell you that on alot of plays in this game he would have been able to make something out of nothing, thats the difference, a play breaks down vince is gonna do what he can to get that extra yard or 2. KC? hits one of the guys head thats on the bench. not to just go overboard and say we win big with VY under center, but lightning is more like to strick than with KC.

Collins made mistakes, yes.
But Collins didn’t give up 34 points.
Our defense is what cost us this game, we should never have had to be in a 2-minute drill at the end in the first place.
Maybe but that was CJ
Ripping off 3 insane plays. Those 31 points werent from KC because he really pretty much played like shit.
true.....
but not having albert, while not a tragedy, still roars its ugly head of what were missing at times. and the defense is sort of restructuring under a new d-coordinator so you have to expect some wrinkles at times.
but collins? working with one of the best WR corps this team has had in a while and the protection to go with it cant produce what we all thought, granted its only week 2, but still. the CJ pass was wide open, and nate saved his a** with a great catch in the end zone. it sucks when you want your starting QB to go back to managing the game….at least!

Keep losin’ and let VY stay on the sideline. Everybody in Nashville knows who’s team it is! The news about him being a father figure to Steve’s sons, the mentioning of his new business, even in the 1st game of the season camera’s on Vince!!!!!! KERRY’S NOT CLUTCH!!! Mr. Adams, please, stop this madness and let Vince start. Be like Jerry Jones and Al Davis for once, because, Kerry ain’t cuttin’ it.

What a miserable..
miserable game. Bad defense (pass defense) again, bad special teams again, bad two-minute offense, again, turnovers, penalties, bad QB decisions………
If not for Chris Johnson, we would have been annihilated, at home, against the Texans.
But we couldn’t have lost, because we ran the ball and stopped the run.

Anyone know the Southwest Airlines number?
Chuck Cecil just earned alot of high flyer miles…. he should think about using some of those point to fly outta here if he doesn’t learn how to scheme a secondary to a division rival…. As a Titans fan, I will not tolerate this… Just think how Manning will do ugh!
The officiating wasnt great, but the bad calls went both ways...
Andre johnsons catch going out of bounds for a first down for example. We should have had that. He was in as the replay showed.
The punt call, as much as it SUCKED for the Titans was the correct call according to the rules. Should the rule be changed? Yes, that was stupid. But the refs were right.
As for the fight ejections, the refs can only eject players they specifically see throw a punch.
Now if you watch the replay, WHICH THE LEAGUE WILL DO, there are probably several texans about to get suspended Monday, INCLUDING MARIO WILLIAMS, who I am pretty sure I saw throw two haymakers.

MAN! I was screaming this all game!
Defensive coordinater need to get the stick out of his tail! Nick Harper is a good corner but he can’t cover Andre Johnson, Finnigan is their shutdown corner and he is very aggresive so why do you have to even think twice about this matchup? And why do we play so much cover 4? The run d was great but you leaving the secondary on an island with the zone! The miss match threw away our lead we had the game in the bag! Another big thing I’m seeing is yea KC is doing ok at QB but VY can make the same throws he’s making but VY can run and make big plays! And I seen alot of offensive plays that didn’t make since like that 4th down we went for yea it was a good play to toss it out to Johnson, but not to pass it to the side where Mario Williams is waiting plus it was the short side of the field! KC could have easily audibled that run to the opposite side of Williams and that would have been a easy 10yard gain! And on the plays were they left in extra blockers I seen that everyone was blocked and CJ wasnt sitting there waiting to block but no one was there for him to block so he needs to start releasing to the sideline no just sit there thats a easy TD cause no one was watching him cause he was trying to block! GOD WHY DOESN’T THE COACHES SEE THIS DON’T LIKE WATCH FILM OR SOMETHING AT HALFTIME? AND we didn’t even really go deep the run game was killing they started to bit on the run so why not go deep when you got 200+ rushing yards! GOD

(sighs)
i know we signed him for two years. but how about a VY experiment for week 3? im just saying, theres no play making ability with KC, as soon as the pressures applied its either throw it out of bounds or close to/if not straight to the defense. and having to go play against the jets where RR has at least rubbed off on their defense and has them going after the ball. i just dont see KC doing it, oh how i hope im wrong as im sure were stuck with seeing if KC can bounce back in week 3. lost fumble with no one within 3-4 yrds of you???? WTF!!!!

Dismantle Dline & Secondary
The good thing is the Division lead is 1 or 1.5 games pending the colts game, so the season isn;t over. But we have to fix that Dline & specially the secondary. And stop the game management sh*t. Coach Fisher go for the freaking win. Take chances with the deep ball
our 2 flaws were exposed
pass defense and 2-minute offense. if teams are smart they wont even try to run and they’ll be able to throw all day. I was hoping the PIT game was an anomoly, but it sure doesnt look like it. I’m fine w/ Collins for now but we should be seriously worried about the D.

Seriously, I don’t care, put him in. I thought he looked pretty improved in the preseason. But if the secondary and pass rush doesn’t tighten up, we could have Peyton Manning back there and it wouldn’t make any difference.

No.
But, you can react to it.
Kerry gets paid to protect the football. That’s why he gets the nod to start. When that goes away and he’s turning over the ball twice in a game, his utility is gone. Vince threw 17 picks in his down year of ’07 that everyone points to. Kerry is on pace for about the same this year.
didnt have the weapons....
that KC has the luxury of having now. vY rolling around waiting for one of his many young, fast, athletic WR’s to get open and make a play or he takes it up the field for 5-7+ yards when nobodys open, especially with the blocking that KC USUALLY gets!!…great things come to those who wait i guess.
"Waiting for the return of the Mac"
"Let VY loose, give him the chance to play his heart out. for himself, for the titans...and for mcnair"
are you making a point of
collins touchdowns last year? because the trade off with the low touchdown numbers last season was the low pick total. or vince youngs touchdowns from his rookie year? which has nothing to do with his down year, which is what i was talking about.
I was correcting you.
Vince had 12 TDs in 07 if you include rushes, which is obviously important when dealing with Vince.
Not really making a point, just a correction.
They still count.
Just like short TD passes do.
Choosing to not include Vince’s rushing TDs skews the information. I’m not trying to split hairs here. Only a correction. You said he had only 9 TDs. In reality, he had 12, regardless of distance.
fair enough
i thought it was implied that i was referring to his passing td’s since you were talking about his 17 picks.
touchdowns.....

6 of 19 isn't almost all of them
and he was throwing a heck of a lot more td’s. But i also haven’t seen vince young with the first team offense, so i’m not gonna say for sure that he wouldn’t be fine. but, i can’t see how some people can say that he’s clearly the answer.
its easier to believe when....
the owner, the head coach and the players believe he’s the future of the franchise. i took more notice when keith bulluck said it himself, coming from a leader like that in his own right says something.

If you are SERIOUSLY giving up on this team, like I’ve seen alot of you do ( DannoE )
That is complete crap.
Yes, we have flaws, but our offense is twice as good as last year.
If we fix the secondary flaws( odd to say, yes )
and get some pass rush or more blitzing,
we are totally fine.
QUIT DOUBTING THE TITANS
This is the BEST POSITION for this kind of team.
They have stuff to prove,
and now, you need to watch out.
what is THIS kind of team?
this team has stuff to prove? we said this same thing after week one, and after the playoff game last week. when is this logic gonna kick in?
A team
that is hungry and always under the radar…
no one respects them,
everyone doubts them

well
a lot of people will say that one of the td’s was a undefended pass to chris johnson. also, people will argue that kerry collins doesn’t make THEE mistake. but he made one that lead directly to a touchdown and then another that cost a chance and winning or at least tying the game.
He averaged 6.5 ypa.
Which is bad on it’s own.
Take that one play out (which was a fluke), and we’re looking at 4.5 ypa. You can’t have that low of a ypa AND turn the ball over twice. The lower yardage is OK if he’s doing his job and managing the game. Without it, he’s a liability.
It's just one game
and KC’s performance is not what kept us from winning. The late fumble was unfortunate, but that and a low ypa are hardly enough to justify a QB change. KC is not the problem.

YEAH RIGHT
Smart Ball doesn’t win championships! Eli shouldn’t let that ball go when he escaped a sack, and he won a championship. Mira, if Kerry’s so good, why did they draft Eli #1 Overall?

Just calm down
I think its too early to say the season is over. WAAYYY TOO EARLY. Everyone just calm down. Coming into this season, alot of you guys have thought of the Superbowl. Maybe that’s are problem, we’re too jumpy. Last season we were saying, “Just one game at a time”. This season we are looking to the playoffs like we have a spot reserved. We need to prove ourselves first. Remember, the Colts last season. They started what 2-4? Something like that? Then they won 10 in a row to end up with a 12-4 record. Why can’t we do the same thing?

winning fixes everything. 1-2 looks so much better than 0-2.

MrDeeboi33
I think you just got stung by a couple of teams on a mission
However your pass d needs some real work.
As for my Texans we need to figure out our run d we can’t let guys have career days on us.
See you for an exiting one on Monday Night Football!
You can't fix Dumb
The fact that all these people are giving up is sickening.
You can take your fair weather fan crap and get out of here. Seriously. Or you can grow up and realize that anything is possible. I’ll be here not giving up until it’s impossible to make the playoffs. Also, Kerry Collins made the last mistake of the game. The worst mistake? Our secondary. I blame Kerry Collins for some of the loss but only a portion. You want Vince to start? Please tell me how different it would have been. Honestly.
Some people are terrible fans.

Seriously.
It’s amazing how much whining I’ve seen on these boards the last two weeks. The Steelers lost to the Bears today because of missed FGs…I guess that means their season is over, too, and they might as well hang it up? This Titans team has talent, and they can turn it around. I’m not losing any sleep over this.

VY....
is better than KC. yeah, you read it correctly.
"Waiting for the return of the Mac"
"Let VY loose, give him the chance to play his heart out. for himself, for the titans...and for mcnair"
in the past....
ppl have justified their arguments with the comparison of KC career to VY’s short one, so jus to fight fire with fire. check out VY’s win-loss ratio to KC’s, there you go.
"Waiting for the return of the Mac"
"Let VY loose, give him the chance to play his heart out. for himself, for the titans...and for mcnair"
are you comparing collins entire career? or career with the titans?
kerry’s record is 13-7 in the regular season 65% , vince is 18-10 64.3%. you can also argue that the titans won in spite of vince young, as the d could keep people out of the endzone back then.
overall career....
i didnt think i needed to specify.

finally
Someone agrees. Did you see the preseason games. How they dogged Vince in the HOF game!!! Thought he threw a pick he was the ony QB to throw a TD pass in that game for the Titans ( oh I forgot, Mortensen threw one too!!!! LOL) Remember Bradshaw got his mojo working after the Steelers drafted Swann and Stallworth. People have to remember when Vince was starting he did have these crappy receivers to throw to…..Eric Moulds, Mike Williams, Brandon Jones, Chris Davis, Justin McCariens….People do forget he did try to reach out to those guys and work out with him in the off season and they didn’t want to. Young to Britt has a nice ring to it. SIGN MATT JONES, SIGN MATT JONES, SIGN MATT JONES, BENCH KERRY COLLINS, BENCH KERRY COLLINS, BENCH KERRY COLLINS. Before we’ll be gettin’ in the Top 5 when draft day comes around!!!!

That's just crazy-talk
and a distraction from the real problems (special teams, secondary, etc) that need attention now. KC is the starter for the season, and it’s a waste of time to talk about taking him out.
by JimR on Sep 20, 2009 6:51 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
yeah screw both of these quarterbacks if the d is gonna play like this
we will need a gb that can put up brees numbers to contend. cuz i can’t assume that chris johnson is gonna put up numbers like this every week.
agree. manning and brady cant overcome 300 plus yards given up by thier d's

What the hell was Bruce Matthews doing in the Texans locker room?
Gary Kubiak:
(on what was said in the locker room to create a big cheer)
I don’t know what I said. I gave Bruce Matthews the ball. To be honest with you, that’s probably wh…en you heard the roar. I told him welcome to our side. That’s probably when you heard the roar.

Good Game Titans,
you always make teams earn a victory, never make it easy.
If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
I am not giving up just because they lost to the miserable Texans
Our defense did stink it up and the fumble by Collins was terrible, no excuse for that. The biggest trouble is that Cecil is not the defensive coordinator that Schwarz was, at least not yet. We have virtually the same secondary as least season, so why the awful performance today. The bottom line is the coaching. Fix it soon, or it will be a very long season.

yes'r got out coached for sure

Face it.
This Titans team isn’t half as good as we’ve been led to believe. This is the “no Albert Haynesworth” defense from two years ago. The Jets are gonna kick the this team’s ass up between its ears next week and after that, Peyton’s gonna hang about 50. If you think Schaub looked good, wait until a really talented QB has all day in the pocket to throw.
I’m sorry men, but this team will have to really pick it up just to end the season at .500. Yesterday’s loss was telling. These guys clearly spent the offseason reading their own press.

"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
We better be praying that the Colts lose tonight,
or there’s likely no way we can catch up with and then overtake them for the AFC South title this year. Am really disgusted with the play of the defense and the errors Collins made yesterday. Too costly.
fingers crossed.....

Let's win a game before we start worrying about the AFC South title.
When you let the Texans manhandle you, it’s probably a bit premature to start worrying about the post-season.
