the only person who mentions a signing is Jones' agent
other than that it’s just a work out…. or at least I keep telling myself that.

WHY WHY WHY
This makes no sense…
Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...

NOOO!!!
At first, I thought it was MARK Jones, and I thought the article would be about naming him the returner or giving him an extension or something, and that was bad enough.
Then I clicked the link, realized it was MATT Jones, the cokehead former Jaguar, and then I had a cow.

MAYBE
We’re gonna try him at QB

His character issues make this seem like a stretch.
But, he did post 761 yards in only 12 games last year. That’s more than any receiver on our current roster.

my thoughts exactly
if he can keep his nose clean, he’s a definite upgrade.

So if this is true...
Who’s the odd man out? Edison? Hawkins?

Hawkins.
Edison has made just as many pays, and been called out for fewer mistakes.

Don't see it happening..
We were burned big time with players with off the field issues … Pac-Man did them in on that. I really think Shefter’s wrong again. At least I hope anyway.

not just schefter
he has jones’ agent on the record, so there is probably at least a little something going on here. not just the typical “some guy i talked to who knows told me” reporting as you might expect.

Yeah, that's true...
It’s certainly a little more than speculation or assumption by them taking a look at him. But I don’t see the need in him really. We having more pressing position needs. I’m just hoping this doesn’t happen.

Give the kid a break.
He made a mistake, manned up to it,and deserves a second chance.
I think he will keep his act together and help the Titans tremedously

schefter
surely wouldn’t want to be shown flat wrong and derided again.
As far as Jones goes, I remember him burning the Titans some and being a pretty good possession receiver. Reading up on his drug offenses, it doesn’t sound that bad at this point. He has one bust from coke found in a car he was in, and a probation violation due to alcohol. I mean, it’s not good, two screw-ups back to back, but it doesn’t appear to be at the Pacman level.
I’d hope that Hawkins would be the one teetering on the edge here, if it happens. He’s had plenty of time and not shown much at all.
by numbertenox on Sep 2, 2009 5:22 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Since we're ready to try criminals again,
why don’t we re-sign Pacman to be our returner and backup corner ? I’m sure he’d fit the role well.
by smashville on Sep 2, 2009 5:29 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
Not opposed.
Not opposed to bringing him, or any veteran, in to see what they’ve got.
At 6’6", he can make a nice possession receiver, and be a nice “jump ball” catcher (not a lot of #2 or #3 CBs out there I can see matching up with his 6’6" stature). Also, he was on pace for a 1000-yard season at Jacksonville – not exactly a run-and-shoot offense – so he posted a decent year at 12 games.
I’m just curious about the message from management – are we in the market for WRs then? Was the problem that we just have to get one “on the cheap?”

The part where you want to bring in any warm body who has ever played receiver.

Not everybody...
…..I would, for example, think there is little left to get out of Amani Toomer – unless he can perhaps show the ability to still return kicks.
Jones is big, still young, and was on pace for a 1,000-yard season. I think that warrants the minimal action of bringing him in for a “look.”
I like having a backup plan to having a WR corp filled almost entirely with players who have never started a game in the NFL.

it's not a terrible idea
Look, yea we’d probably be fine with starting gage and britt, along with all the options at tight end and splitting out cj. But i like this move, Jones doesn’t have to be a starter, but he is good enough to contribute, and a pretty solid route runner. We’re not losing anything here by taking a chance on a guy that’s proven he’s a reliable receiver.
You're not wrong walter, you're just an asshole.

It also...
…brings a little bit of “buffer zone.” Suppose Britt or Washington struggle to stay healthy? Wouldn’t hurt to have someone who could step-in and fill the void.

If this is true
We should be worried Nate Washington is further away from playing than we hope than anything else.
Me personally, I’m all for it. He’s hasn’t really done anything that should dismiss a 2nd chance. I don’t want to be relying on Dominique Edison and Lavelle Hawkins to convert my 3rd downs. I think Edison has a bright future, just don’t wanna see him in big spots right now. I don’t see how he could be ready this soon. May just as well be Tyrone Calico if that’s the case. At least Jones has some real NFL experience.

Not a terribly bad idea...
…if it’s true. You give Jones a chance, if he screws up he’s gone and you’re really not out much. He could if he’s in shape, be an upgrade over Hawkins for sure.

this ain't happening
this is just crazy talk from an agent wanting to generate interest for his client.
it might be true that Jones is coming in for a physical but that does not mean the titans are signing him. how many players have come in and didn’t sign.
Also, i’d rather see Britt get more playing time, who I would pick over Jones anytime, than giving some to a washed up WR.

if Matt Jones could return kicks/punts then I could believe that we would sign him.

If you read the agent's comments closely...
…you can easily see that this is a non-story. He’s had (crappy) discussions with a lot of teams, including the Titans, and what he’s really trying to do here is to force some team (Not the Titans) to hurry up and sign Jones because otherwise the Titans WILL sign him.
The only REAL story here is that this now makes at least twice that Schefter has allowed himself to be used by some WR’s agent as a vehicle for marketing his client.

are that they are bringing in 3 guys (Jones, Jerry Porter and someone else). I will have trouble continuing to run this blog if they sign Porter.
