NFL Week 1 Open Thread

This is the first time I can remember not having a Titans game to watch on the opening Sunday. In a way it will be kind of nice to be able to sit back and enjoy the games without pulling my hair out (of course it would be better if the Titans were 1-0, but I digress).
In Nashville we are getting Jacksonville @ Indianapolis and Dallas @ Tampa Bay early, and Washington @ New York Giants late. I am really interested to see the Jags and Colts. Feel free to discuss any of the games, or how your fantasy games are going in the comments.
Be sure and join August and I for MCM Radio tonight. We will talk about the Steelers game, the upcoming Texans game, and anything else of note that happens today. You can call in the show at (347) 838-9122, or join the chat room.

Jags rookie Corner Cox looking great.
and I’ve been watching Colts O-line… Right Tackle doesn’t look too good.

Cox was definitely worth the 2010 2nd round pick we gave to Pats

texans. more of the same.
schaub has been hit at least 4 times in the first half. this oline leaks like a sieve. i don’t think this team can go anywhere until they can fix that.

I live in Houston, and I know why the Texans suck
It couldn’t be better football weather outside.
85 degrees. Partly cloudy. Nice sun about half the time. A light sprinkle about every 2 or so hours that last about 10 minutes.
Seriously it couldn’t be nicer weather to play football in.
So, of course, the roof is closed. This makes sense. The Texans are not a real football team, so of course, they do not want to play in perfect football weather.

if the team is too wimpy to play football
in 85 degrees and a light sprinkle one time a game, they are too wimpy to be a NFL team

Ratbirds and Chief in Arkansas
Ratbirds defense still looks good.
However, KC has scored a TD on a blocked punt in end zone; a TD on a short field (6 yard line) from a Flacko pic; and a 53-yd FG as referenced above, the key play being a 50-yd pass from Croyle to Bradley.
Ratbirds are using Heap across the field a lot.

I was 30 rows back on the 20 yard line
I have a pal who has season tix to the Bengals and even though I hate the team I love football so when he offered to take me I said sure. Our game was already done for the week and I am always willing to watch some football.
Anyway… the game was mostly boring except a few nice plays. That game ender though was one of the rare flukes. If the intended receiver had caught the ball he woulda got pushed out of bounds and game over. If the Bengals defender hadn’t done his job, it would have been game over. It was only BECAUSE the defender made a big play and got a hand on it that the Broncos won. When he tipped the ball it ended up flying perfectly into Stokely’s hands and he was wide open. Absolutely crazy.
One thing I thought was funny though was some of the Ocho Psycho highlights made him look better than he played. There were two times in that game he had a wide open running lane and instead ran right into a defender or made a bad cut. Both times the highlight reels showed him making the catch, but from an angle that didn’t show the open lanes.
The worst was that nice catch he made on the sideline then took back to the middle. If he had kept going the way he was running he had a clear path all the way to the endzone. Instead he stops makes a cut and runs headlong into the defense. It was still a great play for some good yards, but I have no idea what he was thinking unless he just didn’t see the guy.
All in all I was dissapointed. The only good football to be seen in that game was Ray Mauluga. He made some nice plays and was all over the place. Too bad the Bengals lost though. I was pulling for them even though I hate them just because I didn’t want to see the Squeelers and Ratbirds at the top of the division already.

the fox robots
I’ve been watching the Giants/Racial Ephiphets game, and I just noticed the Fox robot is still around. Does anybody like this? I’ve hated it since week two or 1997 or 1998 when they first got NFL coverage. And even if everyone loved it, come up with a new idea; it’s been 12 years.

looks great on some of those long deep throws……..but hell, even on that one, he threw to double coverage…….high-risk, high-reward throw
but he also makes completely idiotic decisions and throws his teams out of games……
he can look like crap for 58 minutes, then lead a game winning drive against a prevent defense and be hailed as a future hall of famer….it’s ridiculous…..

Watching games from around the league I feel better.
I sat at home Sunday and flipped through all of the games on the NFL package and watched Red Zone on and off. What I saw seemed like poor play from most of the teams in the league and actually came away feeling much better about the showing the Titans had Thursday night in comparsion.
