Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Twitter Beatdown Edition

When Bud Adams started the Oilers in 1960, the US had just launched its very first weather satellite. Now his people have to make policies regarding things like Twitter and Ustream.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Tony Brown is preparing for his first season without Albert Haynesworth next to him since the former undrafted free agent broke through in 2006, and many around the Titans say Brown could have a break-out year as a result.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 It pretty much goes without saying that whomever wins the no. 3 spot in the RB rotation will be expected to be a key player on special teams as well.  It was that shortcoming which led to Chris Henry being inactive for all but one game last year.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Apparently Paul Kuharsky's Facebook page isn't exactly stocked with MENSA members, and the dimmer of the group had plenty to say about VY's comments in Esquire.  Once again, why people want the guy to strive for mediocre I will never understand.

Follow us through the jump to find out what Jeff Fisher is telling the players about Twitter and Ustream...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Kevin Vickerson lost 30 pounds compared to his playing weight last year, and now tips the scales at 305 lbs.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Tennessean breaksdown Kenny Britt's surpassingly palatable contract, which is good for up to $12 million over 5 years.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Amid rumors of a Twitter lockdown that's coming, and a precipitous fall in online activity yesterday by Bulluck, LenDale and CJ, we finally have a little bit of an idea what players have been told so far about the popular online service:

"Basically (Fisher) has said you just have to watch what you do, telling people where you are and this that and the other," Bulluck said. "He said it more for our protection, not to be a jerk or anything like that. He wants to protect his players, protect his team and keep everything inside the locker room.

"I know he is going to address it again. But what can he do? What are you going to do, get fined for every character you put in the Twitt? I don't know what he is going to do, and I don't feel as if anything I do on it affects this team directly. Anything I do is just an outreach to the fans and so on and so forth. I am very general with mine.''

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Terry McCormick takes a look at Bud Adams' 50 years as an NFL owner... expect stories like this to just keep rolling in this year.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Titansonline.com has a great write-up on Safety, Tuff Harris, who grew up on a Crow Indian Reservation around Long Grass, Montana.  That's not exactly the typical backdrop for an NFL success story.

The most interesting article today was the one on the RBs.

I hadn’t really thought of this, but how many backs can you really keep? Clearly C. Henry is gone, but it sounds like Ganther and Little may both be in trouble as well. I mean, seriously, how many Backs do you keep?

You’ve already got CJ, LenDale, and A. Hall. Those guys are not going anywhere. Ganther is good because he can play Special Teams and FB both, in addition to RB, but I’d be AMAZED if they cut Ringer, but then again… FIVE backs on a 53-man roster? I don’t know about that.

Last year, C. Henry was a pure waste of space on the squad. Even if they wanted to use him, he was never active when they needed him. Ganther got those carries because he could play the other positions. And it’s not like you can put Ganther on the Practice Squad. You might get away with putting R. Little there, but Ganther has played WAY too many games for that.

Anybody got a thought here?

I'd have to think Ganther and Henry

would get signed away the minute they hit the practice squad. Little might be the best option to stash away there until… Indy needs a starter like they did with Mookie last year!

Ganther cannot hit the Practice Squad because he's been in the League too long.

The same is probably true of Henry as well, though in that case I disagree and would be AMAZED if he got signed elsewhere. Which means that you could probably cut him but keep him on your “Emergency Call” list without issue. This is kind of what happened with Chris Simms last year. Had he been cut at the start of the season, there is little doubt that a bunch of teams would have brought him in to compete for a back-up job. However, in mid-season it was too much risk to take when you had to cut a guy to try him out.

I agree that Little would be safe on the Practice Squad—unless some team has a rash of RB injuries like Denver did last year. But to sign a guy off another team’s Practice Squad, he has to go on the 53-man roster, and teams rarely do that unless they have a DIRE need.

I bet you someone would take a crack at Henry

just for the potential, even if he hasn’t produced anything at any level…

Why?

If the guy can’t run behind the Titans’ O-Line, who the heck is that’s gonna make him succeed?

teams always think they can coach up someone with that size/speed combo

even if we both agree that it’s a lost cause.

i think you guys have pretty much covered it.

CJ, LDW, Hall(fullback) make it for sure.
Ringer probably pick up some special teams duties as well as #3 RB (and my guess is he will replace lendale once he asks for too much money after this season)
ganther will hopefully make it as a utility guy: special teams, #2 fullback, and as a back up for short yardage if lendale gets hurt.
chris henry is toast.
little hopefully gets hidden on the practice squad, but it’s hard to see what kind of future he has in tennessee as long a CJ is healthy.

About Vince

I’m Jeff Stafford and I stand by my statement. I do wonder where we could be right now if we had drafted Jay instead of Vince. Don’t get me wrong I want him to succeed and prove me wrong but saying he’s going to be in the Hall when he’s a back up quarterback is just idiotic. He first goal should be to secure the 2nd string job, then concentrate on actually winning the starting job back.
