Titans will wear No. 9 decal on their helmets to honor McNair

9_helmet_medium

As expected, the Titans will wear a No. 9 decal on the back of their helmets this season to honor Steve McNair. I imagine it will look something like the photoshopped picture above. They will first wear the helmets with the 9 against the Bills this Sunday in the Hall of Fame game. A jersey patch was not allowed because they are already wearing a patch for AFL's 50th year celebration. Per league rules, only one patch is allowed each year.  The Titans are still working on other ways to honor McNair this season, according to The Tennessean.

Update: The decal will actually look like the picture below.

I wish they would have an exception to the patch rule for things like this

But I’m glad they are going for multiple things to honor him.

so i was watching the music city miracle game on nfl network a couple days ago

and right after the miracle occurs, the camera pans over to fisher and he has his arms around steve, and steve has the goofiest wide-eyed look on his face. i can say with absolutely no shame that my eyes got a little sweaty. it’s still hard to believe he’s gone.

No. 9

As a Raven fan, I always looked forward to Titan games. It was a lock to be great smash-mouth football, played by men at the highest level, as much for love of the game as a paycheck. I also found Titan fans passionate about their team, but friendly, classy hosts to a rival teams fans. I guess that’s why I’m not surprised that the Titan ownership would show equal class in paying tribute to a warrior of Steves ilk. Nobody can deny the heart this man displayed on the field. As to his personal mistakes, the only difference between Steve and us was the glare of the camera, and the hipocritical standards we hold atheletes to.
