Dallas Cowboys 30 Tennessee Titans 10 Recap: It's Only Preseason

The only good news from this game is that it is only preseason, so there is really no need to spend a lot of time worrying about the things we saw tonight.  Are there some causes for concern?  Sure, but at the end of the day this game means absolutely nothing.  As JimR said in the open game thread (which was excellent tonight):

Just keep repeating:

"It’s only a pre-season game." Remember, Detroit won all their pre-season games last year.

The first team offense looked lost for the second week in a row.  Chris Johnson and LenDale White combine for 7 yards on 4 carries.  I do realize the Titans aren't doing any type of scheming for these games, but I am a slight bit concerned at the inability to get anything done on the ground.

Kerry Collins was better this week than last but still didn't light the world on fire.  He ended the game 8 of 11 for 55 yards and a touchdown.  Both of the guys behind him looked pretty bad.

Star-divide

The lone bright spot of the game was Javon Ringer.  Ringer may end up being the steal of the 2009 draft.  He is the classic guy who doesn't have the measureables teams are looking for, but he is a really good football player.  He has good vision, which is what will most likely make him end up as the kick returner, and he has good game speed.  He cannot replace CJ, but he can step in and make some plays if CJ misses time because of an injury.

Shake this one off.  There are obviously a lot of things this team needs to fix, but at the end of the day this game doesn't mean anything.  I hope that is going to help me sleep.

Be sure and check back tomorrow for the roll call and some statistical analysis from the game.

Time for role reversal

Collins supporters will point out that he did okay while Vince struggled, and Vince supporters will point out that after all… it’s only preseason. Great fun!

The middle of the field was open all night

That just shows how much Tulloch and Fuller mean to this defense. Fowler looked horrible. He looked lost and didn’t react to anything.

Tackle=good

Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...

Crowd roaring after Suter’s goal tied it up… Preds win the faceoff and Arnott crosses the blueline, slapshot and a SCORE! Arnott blows it by Hasek and the Preds take the lead 4-3…

Fisher was saying before the game that he wanted to put some of the young guys on an island...

…and force them to make plays. That probably accounts for at least SOME of the problems on Defense. However, the missed tackles were TERRIBLE.

Watched with a couple of friends

and one of them is a Detroit fan. He pointed out the fact that Detroit won all their preseason games last season as well….

I love the fact that Dallas built a billion dollar stadium that’s defective.

"It’s only a pre-season game."

Yeah, I’m not going to read too much into this game.
That was kinda funny that the Ref’s mic wouldn’t work in the first part of the game.
That was a really nice looking stadium though.

Go Titans Go !!!!

The Scoreboard

Did anyone else find it hilarious that the idiots built the giant scoreboard too low?

The most hilarious part of the game was

“False start, everyone but the center.”
The most entertaining penalty i’ve seen.

Pre-season game, so what, big deal, who cares?

This game means nothing. The Titans looked bad last night, but I don’t think they were destined to win . I sure wouldn’t want to spend 1.2 billion on a new stadum and lose the first game Just a theory.
Anyhow, the next game may show us what the Titans are really made of. The defense is going to have to step up. The time of possession for the Cowboys was rediculous. The first team offense will need to make some strides in improving execution. Collins passes were not crisp. Johnson couldn’t find a hole to run through.
Thank goodness Ringer was a bright spot and something we can cling to for hope.

Its worth noting

The Cowboys played their first string offense against our second string defense on the drive before the half ended, and played their first string defense against our second string offense on VY’s first drive. They really wanted to win.

Yeah, that was obvious.

Listening to Fisher’s comments ahead of the game, it sounded like he knew what was coming, too. That said, it’s not a good sign that the O- and D-lines got beat—badly—on almost every play.

They dominated our lines

when we played them in regular season last too. The game Albert boiled over. I’m just not sure we match up well against them. Fortunately, we don’t see them often.

ringer looks to be the steal of the draft indeed

he seems to have the best vision of any back on the roster, cj included. i’m in awe of our draft class, especially offensively.

Preseason or not...

I don’t really like the fact we have to game plan or scheme to get the fastest, and one of the most elusive backs in the league, more than 10 yards. On top of that, neither CJ or LenDale, can gain a yard when they’re greeted by the D at the handoff. It sure seems Kevin the difference maker on our O line.
