Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Rookies Down And Out Wide Edition
Reason no. 3,154,6478.5 part a1 why players love Chuck Cecil: he decided to show the DBs the best way to tackle in the open field without getting fined... by lining up and hitting the tackling dummy himself!
If Ryan Mouton thinks he has a chance to relax now that his ankle is sprained, then he better think again: Fisher announced that they'll be very aggressive with his treatment with the hopes of getting him back in the mix as soon as it's physically possible.
Jim Wyatt has a few interesting notes in his recap from last night's open practice, including this one:
Cook worked with the wideouts in 1-on-1 drills and lined up wide on a lot of plays.
Friday's match-up with the Titans will mark the first NFL game in the bleeding pit of wasted tax dollars magical kingdom of gumdrops and blue collar work ethic that is Cowboys stadium. I heard they kept the hole in the roof because god enjoys watching them struggle in futility and mediocrity (that's 13 years without a single playoff victory, for those keeping score), for even the lord can't sway the Football Gods. Amen.
Follow us through the jump to find out which Titans player isn't happy with their Madden '10 rating...
There are a lot of guys in camp who aren't going to make an NFL roster, and it's not as though they don't know that. Here, John Glennon tells a few of their stories and what they want to do after they're done with the game.
I haven't watched it yet because the video wasn't loading this morning, but here's a link to Jeff Fisher's interview with Chris Mortensen from Titans camp yesterday. What are the odds Mort works Brett Favre in there somewhere? Better than him mentioning the fact that his son got cut a good month before the first roster deadline?
T.J. Houshmandzadeh has already said he's boycotting Madden '10 because he's insulted by his rankings in the new, harsher system. Now, it's looking like Chris Johnson may be leaning that way as well.
Stephen Tulloch has a new post on his blog about his knee injury and the frustration of missing time in the pre-season after only missing one practice since being drafted by the Titans.
Mike Otto got his first start as a Titan last Saturday, and yesterday he talked about it with Titans Radio.
USA Today's Tom Weir was at Titans camp, and he's got a run-down/preview that focuses on injuries and rookies.

Seems like the team is reasonably deep everywhere except cornerback.
However, I would HATE to have to go play the Steelers with neither V. Fuller nor R. Mouton. I suppose someone would step up, but it’s looking a little thin at Nickle right now.

Re: Madden
Ratings are here.
CJ’s an 88.
Backs that are higher:
Matt Forte – 89
Michael Turner – 95
DeAngelo Williams – 94
Marion Barber – 88
Maurice Jones-Drew – 89
Larry Johnson – 88
Ronnie Brown – 89
Adrian Peterson – 97
Brandon Jacobs – 90
Thomas Jones – 90
Brian Westbrook – 94
LaDanian Tomlinson – 94
Frank Gore – 91
Steven Jackson – 92
Clinton Portis – 93
That’s 14 backs that are rated higher than CJ, and two more that are equal to him. He has a right to be pissed. The ones I take issue with more than others…MJD, DeAngelo Williams, and Matt Forte.
It’s garbage. The only guy on that list that I’d take over CJ is Adrian Peterson. Even then, I’d hesitate considering his injury history.
I disagree with Ronnie Brown most of all.
And I would say CJ deserves as good if not better ranking as the three you already mentioned. Easily.

You really sound pretty biased there. I think that those backs are better than CJ. MJD and Deangelo are defineatly better and i think Forte is too

What in the world makes Forte better than CJ?
Drew? Dude seriously. You would rather have midget Drew than CJ? Crazy talk.

Sorry man
I didn’t notice your username. That alone makes anything you say talent evaluation wise suspect.

You dont have to be a douche, but anyway Forte is a feature back and so is MJD. CJ isnt as good at the goal line. Thats just my opinion though.

first off
brady quinn is an overhyped lady boy. just had to get that out of the way. no offense.
besides that, just because we have another good RB and chicago doesn’t has nothing to do with chris johnson’s abilities. he was never given the chance at the goal line, so it’s really impossible to say whether or not he could get the job done.
turning to football outsiders, it’s really not even close. forte had a DVOA (average per play value) of -7.1% meaning 7.1% below average. that ranks him 38th in the league last year. cj’s was 9.2% above average, good for 10th in the league.
forte got 67 more carries last year than cj, yet he only gained 11 more yards and had 1 fewer rushing touchdown.
as for MJD (who barely cracked 800 yards) he ranked 18th in DVOA, which is lower than lendale who was 13th.

boom
Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...
Crowd roaring after Suter’s goal tied it up… Preds win the faceoff and Arnott crosses the blueline, slapshot and a SCORE! Arnott blows it by Hasek and the Preds take the lead 4-3…

I am a Titans fan, so no need to be so harsh. I am used to people hating my teams, so I dont really care what you think of Quinn, but the lady part doesnt even make sense.
You do have to remember that Chicago has a bad o-line while we have a good one.
We all know that MJD is going to have a huge year this year.

But for some strange reason hilarious…

First of all, he isnt gay. If he was, then whhy was he with his girlfriend in the green room in the 07 draft. Second, why would he have gone to a catholic college.

So your claims of Forte and the Midget being better
are just hypothetical?

i especially like....
how it was brought up about the carries, alot of ppl tend to forget about that part, and he still put up the numbers he did sharin the reps. good stuff man.

how are Forte and MJD better?
MJD has yet to hit 200 carries or break 1,000 yards, and Matt Forte averaged a whole yard less per carry. I’d take CJ over both of those guys based on what we’ve seen so far.
I’ll give you DeAngelo though. CJ could be better in the long run, but he isn’t there yet…

As someone who has been playing Madden
CJ has no reason to complain. His speed makes him absolutely lethal, more so than the higher rated but slower backs. I agree he should be higher, but he is already one of the best players to use.

Completely agree
I said as much on The Tennessean. He’s unstoppable in that game. It almost feels like cheating.
at this point
i really hope we will be looking to pick up a cb once people start getting cut around the league.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
They should have worked at keeping Carr.
What an error letting that guy go was! Now we need a damn CB and a returner!!!
DannoE
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
agreed
that one worried me, but we still haven’t seen what Jones is capable of yet. He’s back at practice now, and he should be the solution they signed him to be…
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
the whole reason
we let carr go is because we didn’t think he could be an effective corner, and he wanted a shot to be more than just a return man. eric king, on the other hand, was a big loss because he could actually be effective at the position, and schwartz obviously agreed, since he took him to motown with him.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
If he's not ever available, then it doesn't matter what he "could" be.
What he is, so far, is “most likely to be waived while injured.”
As for Carr, I grant you that King was the better corner, but the loss of Carr means a loss of two positions. Now I happen to think that in the long run, this will work out, which means that Carr—and his kick returning—were more valuable.
‘Course, now that you mention it, the Titans may well have waived Carr at Carr’s request (i.e. he was NEVER going to start at CB, and also never going to get paid as a starting CB, so they agreed to release him), in which case I guess there’s not a lot to say. Still, it seems an idiotic move right n ow given that we need a Returner and a back-up CB, but we probably don’t need either for more than 6 games max given the new personel.
DannoE

Is that a superlative they give out?

Can CJ return

no way that happens
we’re sunk if he gets hurt…
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
well, i don't think
we’d be sunk. but it’s a bad risk to take. i’m of the mind that CJ is going to have a lot of competition for the ball this year – still in rosy optimism mode regarding offense.
We're definitely NOT sunk if CJ gets hurt.
CJ is a very valuable player, but a backfield of LenDale White and Javon Ringer would easily manage against even very good teams.
DannoE
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
was....
a better returner than corner, not to say that he was bad at the CB, but there was alot of times he gave a little too much cushion to the receiver and he wasnt able to recover fast enough when the short pass came and the WR got legit gains everytime. but he’s dead to me now that he’s a raven. haha

Edison Shines Under the Lights
was good to see. Ever since we drafted him and I watched his videos and read about his impact on his college team a bit I’ve been very excited about this guy. He really knows how to use his body and come down with the ball that you don’t see often at any level.
I haven’t been able to watch either games (except for few highlights) and haven’t heard much about him from practice reports. Has he done much before last night? How has he looked out there? Anyone?
I forget the quote from his college coach
but it was something to the effect of, “The offense is going to change a lot from last year. We won’t be the quick strike offense we were when we could just throw it up to Dominique and get a score.”
a bit of a body catcher though
as is britt. want to see these guys extend for the ball…
I'd like to see...
hawk take a big step in fighting for a spot in the starting rotation, at least the 4th spot. hes got some good moves when he gets the ball in his hands.
