Don Banks looks at Week 1 Winners/Losers
More high praises from Don Banks as he writes about Preseason Week 1 Winners and Losers
FYI We were Winners....
• WINNER -- This just in: The Titans have receivers. Repeat, the Titans have receivers. When I visited Tennessee's training camp last week, I came away very impressed with the pass-catching potential of rookies Kenny Britt and Jared Cook. And they didn't take long to justify my confidence. Britt, the first-round receiver from Rutgers, caught five passes for a team-best 89 yards and a touchdown in a 27-20 win at Tampa Bay, and he looks like that rare first-year receiver who's ready to make an immediate impact.
Cook, the third-round tight end from South Carolina, added six catches for 56 yards against the Bucs, and he's basically a receiver wearing a tight end jersey number. Just think of what the Titans might have on their hands once new deep threat Nate Washington gets going, and that running game and defense do what they do so well. Tennessee is again the team to beat in the AFC South.

that's what we have Crumpler, Scaife and Stevens for...
Cook will come around as a blocker, just watch.

Just like Kellen Winslow Jr. was supposed to?

Don Banks is suddenly my favorite member of the media
He apparently developed a love interest with the Titans this offseason.
Also, we can teach Cook to block. We can make him better, stronger, faster.

Why is everyone so certain Cook can't block?
During the Bills game the announcers showed a closeup of him blocking after he drew a holding call. They both agreed that his blocking technique wasn’t that bad, and that the hold might not have gotten called during a game (we all know most aren’t).
His main problem, I think, is that he so tall it’s hard for him to get down low enough to get the right leverage, but I wish people would stop acting like he can’t learn.
Blocking as a TE is not something you pick right up as a rookie in the NFL
It takes time, he’ll find it

I think we should just make him a receiver.

I disagree.
Let the man play his position and develop other outside threats. I mean, it’s great that he can catch—seriously great!—but why put him in WR, where he’d probably be 4th? Get him on the field in 2 TE, no WR sets, and that’s where he’ll REALLY shine.

I would like to see him line up as a wideout
every now and again just to see the defense panic

i think
they are trying to keep jared cook on the down low for as long as possible. if you watch him in practice he is almost never lined up in the traditional tight end position. when he is lined up outside, he is almost uncoverable. i think at this point fisher and dinger know what they have with cook, so there is no reason to put too much film of him out there in the preseason. last night he ran right past chris hope and caught a bomb from vince. cook seems to have fantastic hands and he can outrun our secondary, so i’m not sure what else you can say about the guy. no reason to have him lighting up highlight reels in the preseason.

ahh so they know the talent is there
but they don’t want other teams to make ways that can shut him down before the regular season starts

I am so bleeping excited
Does anybody else have a feeling this is gonna be the best bleeping team we’ve ever put on the field? I mean, bleep, man. Bleeping bleep! (sorry if I sound like a bleep but I’m ready to kick some bleep this year).
This one's for you, #9.
