The Details Surrounding Steve McNair's Death
I have been hesitant to write this post because there have been a lot of rumors floating around all day, and the last thing I wanted to do in this case was add fuel to the rumor fire. It does appear now that most of the details have been confirmed.
The police are not calling this a murder-suicide yet, but all of the facts are pointing to that being the case. When the police arrived at the condo that Steve McNair had been renting they found his body on the couch with multiple gunshot wounds. They found the body of 20-year old Sahel Kazemi on the floor with one gunshot to the head. The police apparently did not find the gun until they moved the bodies, which leads me to believe that the gun was under her body. They have not released yet who the gun belongs too.
It has also come out that Kazemi was arrested earlier this week for a DUI in a Cadillac Escalade that was registered in her name, as well as McNair's. McNair was a passenger in the car that night, but no chargers were filed against him.
The autopsies are scheduled for Sunday morning at which point I expect this police to officially rule this a murder-suicide.
August has agreed to put in some weekend time and post some links in the morning. Stay tuned to MCM for all of the latest breaking news.
[UPDATE 7/5/2009 3:39 p.m.]- The autopsy on McNair revealed that he was shot 4 times, twice in the chest and twice in the head. His death has been ruled a homicide. The police did not make a ruling on Kazemi's death immediately after the autoposy.

All I can say is...
When I remember my time in Tennessee as an exchange student (1999 / 2000) I cant help to remember this guy!
He will be forever linked to my memories of a great time I had in my youth!

I will say something:
I may regret this later (and I am probably saying this, carried by the emotions of this day)
But after today, and seeing some of the reactions around here, Ravens fans have gotten a little more respect from me!!!

Don't worry:)
From a Ravens fan:
I say this to try to put a smile on your face in light of the negative circumstances. If we meet again in the playoffs since we don’t play this year, i’ll be sure to come back and remind you that you respect us now:) So you can’ t say anything bad about the Ravens ever again:)
Anyway, as I’ve mentioned earlier We all feel the loss, and i’m so glad we can come to this site(and baltimore beat down) to share our memories and read others of a truly great man who will be missed.

Honestly
As big of a Rival that the Steelers are too us, you guys are right up there. We have battled you till the end for the last 10 years and it has always been a war. Part of a reason for those great battles we had was because of Steve. He is the toughest QB to ever play in the NFL in our generation, hands down.
I always respected the kind of quiet, yet powerful leadership he brought to the position. When he came to the Ravens, he showed how great of a game manager he was and brought a lot of chemistry to Baltimore. Just so terrible that he can no longer be with us, because someone like Air McNair does not deserve to have this happen at such a young age.

I'm a Cowboy fan
But I’m a fan of football and the human race first. So sorry to hear about McNair. I had tremendous respect for him as a player and a person. My prayers go out to Steve and his family.

So sorry.
This is tragic. Steve McNair was one of my favorite players. My ten year old son and I talk football probably too much, and I’ve always told him that McNair played with more guts and heart than most. He was as tough as they come. How sad.
To those of you who were his biggest fans, my condolences. My prayers go to his wife and children.

Very sad day.
I’m a 49er fan, but Steve McNair was one of all time favorites that didn’t put on the red and gold. The man played with guts and left it all out the field everytime. RIP Steve McNair.

From a Dallas Cowboys fan....
He represented everything that EVERY football player should hope to ever be. Tough. High character. A pure leader. Class.
I can unabashedly say that Steve McNair was by far my favorite non-Dallas Cowboys player. Ever.
He was one of the toughest players to play to the game of football, and he loved playing. I know that Dallas fans are not supposed to root for Houston team, but I always secretly cheered on the Oilers. When they moved to Nashville, I became a fan of them as well. Still am. And having McNair as their quarterback made it even easier to root them on.
I loved watching McNair play and it’s sad to see him leave us in this fashion. This has hit me pretty hard, and I find myself oddly at a loss for words. All I can say is how much I loved him not only as a football player but as a great, great person.

From a Giants fan
Steve was a great player and person. He was one of my favorite players in the NFL, I can remember a comeback drive he had against the giants with only minutes left and i couldn’t believe what i was seeing, I knew that the titans were going to win because of Steve. A tremendous athlete and a good man. May God bless the families involve and give them the strength in this terrible time.

Eagles fan here
You didn’t have to be a fan of the Oilers or Titans to be a fan of Steve McNair. In some round about way I think McNair’s success in the NFL made it an easier decision for our front office to draft McNabb. He was one of the NFL’s true ironmen, one of the franchise’s elite and will be greatly missed.

An incredibly sad time...
An incredibly sad time for all Titan fans and for the entire NFL family. As a huge Titan & Steve McNair fan, I want to thank all our NFL brethren for your kind words here at MCM today. Regardless of what team colors you sport on Sunday, you had to respect the way that Steve McNair played the game when he stepped on the field each Sunday. RIP Steve “Air” McNair, #9…….

Steeler fan here
McNair was one of the few Quartebacks that I dreaded having to play against. I loved watching him play, he was one of the gutsiest and toughest Quarterbacks ever to play the game, and was never afraid to mix it up with the others. When he bet us that time in the 2002 playoffs, he was on song, and that was a heartbreaking loss.
He played the spot how it should be, and i would always prefer a guy who is ready to mix it up and bang heads with a defense, rather than a prima donna QB who cries every time he gets hit
My condolences go out to the Titan fanbase and his family…..this is a terrible tragedy…and now all we have of him are memories

Details Not Adding Up
If I’m not mistaken, I’ve read inthe Tennessean, that Neely arrived at 7 am to the apt. Gaddy arrived and called police at 1:35 pm. What was Neely doing for 6 and a half hours in between?
As one who has general knowledge of handguns, I find it highly unlikely that the girl would have felt comfortable enough to fire the weapon, much less hit him four times. She doesn’t seem to fit a profile of a killer. If she came at hiim with a gun, wouldn’t he be shot in the arms trying to shield himself?
I suspect another person was there during the event. It just doesn’t add up that the girl would have done this, especially shooting him in the head twice.
Very suspicious

the alternative murder-suicide path would involve McNair putting the gun under her after shooting himself 4 times
With the details out there, it was pretty clearly her.
That's big talk for a little guy,

It does stink
I think pigskinpundits is suggesting a double homicide rather than a murder suicide, and based on what I’ve read so far I think the same.
Hopefully physical evidence will shed some light, but you have a guy with a lot of money, not divorced yet but apparently heading that way, dating a 20 something year old. Lots of motivations all around for a killing. He’d been hanging out at the apartment a ton apparently. If anybody did want to kill him, the opportunity was just laying there. It could be a murder suicide, but it could also be a double homicide. Either way, it sucks.

According to CSI
they should be able to look at the female’s hand/arm to determine residue from the gun powder. If none is found there, it may open the possibility that another person was there and planted the gun under her body.
It just seems way out of the statistical norm of possibility that this girl shot him four times including in the head twice.
The ballistics report and ownership of the gun may shed light on this.

Because she is a girl?
Just curious why you think it was someone else. Being from West Virginia, let me tell you I have seen a ton of women who know how to handle a handgun just as well as any man, including higher power handguns. My sister owns a desert eagle and put most men to shame when it comes to keeping the spread minimized on a target, even when firing at a fairly rapid pace.

She has no history of violence
True, women can shoot handguns. However, the women you refer to have been taught and encouraged to use guns.
I haven’t seen anywhere that the mistress had any experience shooting handguns. Also, I haven’t seen any reports that she had an anger, temper problem.
By all accounts, the girl seems to have been a peace loving person.
If she did it, why did she shoot him 4 times including twice in the head? Why didn’t he struggle? Was he shot in the arms trying to take cover?
The odds are so not in favor of all this taking place.

timeline in question
Around 7 a.m. on the Fourth of July, McNair’s friend, Wayne Neeley, unlocked the condo he was co-renting with McNair. He spotted McNair on the couch and Kazemi on the floor, but walked past them to the kitchen, apparently not realizing anything was amiss. It was only when he returned to the living room that he realized both had been dead for several hours, Aaron said.
He then called another friend who joined him at the condo. They placed a call to police at about 7:35 a.m.
was it 7:35 am or 1:35 pm?

Very Confused about details
Just heard CBS NEWS report on the radio where they did confirm it was a homicide, but they also said Mcnair was dating Kazemi. If that was true what an interesting plot twist that is, maybe that would be a motive for her if she, as it seems is the killer who knows, but CBS is the only station reporting they were dating. Just thought I’d pass it on. Because as far as I know Steve was Married with 4 kids.

Looking a lot more like it's Kazemi
Gun was bought by her.
The gun recovered at the scene of the deaths of Steve McNair and Sahel Kazemi was purchased by Kazemi recently, Metro police have confirmed…The gun was found under Kazemi’s body.

That might
Make it a homicide and then a suicide because Steve had about 4 shots around his upper chest area while she had only one to the head.
