Police Arrest Man Who Sold the Gun that Killed Steve McNair
In a story that I am really glad to see, the man who sold the gun to Sahel Kazemi that she used to kill Steve McNair has been arrested. Turns out he is an ex-con that was convicted in Florida in 1993 of three counts of armed robbery and second degree murder. Good thing he was back on the streets.
The story goes on to say that Kazemi bought the gun for $100 while also trying to sell the man her Kia. The bizarreness continues on..
[UPDATE]- The gun offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000. Gilliam has a 3 p.m. arraignment today before Judge Clifton Knowles.
According to a court filing in relation to Gilliam's gun charge, the gun originated at Household Pawn on Charlotte Avenue and went through another owner before Gilliam bought it for $100 about a year ago. It said Gilliam admitted to agents he sold the gun to Kazemi, identifying her through a photograph.
(Thanks to hal for also posting this story.)

That’s good news, although a somewhat bizarre situation.

I was figuring
that whoever sold her the gun was getting off because of cooperation on the case. It does seem like the police have handled this whole thing pretty decisively.

i think
it might be an issue of different agencies with different motivations. the metro police would have been the ones questioning him at first, and all they were trying to figure out was who killed steve. this arrest, however, was made by the bureau of alcohol, tobacco and firearms, which is a federal agency. possession of firearms by a felon is illegal both at the federal and tennessee state level, so while metro police may have said that they wouldn’t prosecute him for violating the state law (i have no idea if they actually did this, pure speculation), that says nothing about what the ATF is going to do concerning the federal law he violated.

sigh... lawyers
The lawyer defending Adrian J. Gilliam Jr. said in a statement “Steve McNair was one of Nashville’s heroes. A lot of lives have already been ruined. But Mr. Gilliam is a decent, hard-working family man and there’s no reason to ruin his life too.”
ummm, ruin his life? decent family man??
does he mean the convicted murderer who is selling loaded guns to unstable 20 year olds in the parking lot? what planet does this guy live on?

How was he gonna know a 20 year old girl was gonna kill someone? You’d be surprised how many woman carry some sort of weapon for protection.

i never said anything about that
but selling loaded handguns to people in a restaurant parking lot is some shady business.

Where is the proof that he sold the gun to her?
I’m just thinking, maybe that’s his story but did he really sell the gun to her? Are there witnesses to the sale, proof of purchase? This guy has a shady past, could there be more to it than this?

from cnn:
Authorities said federal agents traced the gun used in the Fourth of July murder-suicide to Household Pawn in Nashville, which sold it in January 2002.
“Further investigation revealed the 9 mm pistol was later sold for approximately $100 to Adrian Gilliam approximately one to one and a half years ago,” Nashville police said in a news release.
Gilliam, 33, of LaVergne, Tennessee, told detectives that on July 2 he sold the gun for about the same price to Sahel Kazemi outside a shopping mall.

Gilliam, 33, of LaVergne, Tennessee, told detectives...
So we’re all suppose to just accept that? That he told them he sold the gun? How do they know he didn’t find an opportunity and work his way into that condo and stage it all to look like a murder-suicide? Maybe Metro investigated that and hopefully the Feds will look a little closer at it. But I haven’t seen anything else other than him saying he sold the gun. Maybe Metro saw an easy out and closed the case on that, but that doesn’t mean that’s how it is.

That is ridiculous
If he staged the whole thing, he is one heck of a hitman.
What possible motive could he have for telling them he sold her the gun?

It's not so ridiculous
Not as ridiculous as thinking someone goes to a used car salesman trying to sell a car and the conversation turns to buying a gun. How does that conversation take that turn?
His motive for saying he sold her the gun was when the police came knocking on his door after tracking the gun back to him was to quickly tell that story than to do time for a robbery gone bad.
I don’t know how plausible that is but before taking the word of a used car salesman that has done time for armed robbery and 2nd degree murder needs a lot more looking into. Hell, how many used car salesmen are you going to trust, not even throwing in the criminal record?
