Replaced at mid-season by Craig Stevens.

Not to be out-done, Stevens then rolls up the year with a total of 5 dropped passes and two completions. Of the two completions, Stevens fumbles both, one of which he recovers himself. The other is recovered by Quarterback Vince Young, which is fortunate because it means that it occured in garbage time during the Titans whoop-up on St. Louis on December 13th. Nonetheless, David Climer kills Young for the pass despite the fact that it hits Stevens in the numbers. As usual, however, no one notices because, hey, who reads Climer?

Let’s not forget that Algae proved to be a great blocker last season and his good blocking will allow Rookie TE Jared Cook to run patterns consistently and even line up in the slot.

Agreed.

But really… can he block better than Craig Stevens? Really?

I will grant you that Stevens was a very raw talent last year. He had the one bad catch behind the back of the end zone with no one around him, nullifying his own TD catch. That was ugly. And on the other side, Alge had the great fake on Ray Lewis to put the first Ravens game away. That was a saavy move by a veteran TE. I’m not saying that Stevens is ready to step in and replace everything that Crumpler brings to the table.

But still… the world is FULL of blocking TEs, and the Titans already have another really good one on the roster. Crumpler’s position is hardly secure, and he had a massive brain-fart last year in the playoffs that I personally will never, ever forget.

Jared Cook cutting into his time

It may happen and when he came in he was expected to be a main cog in the offense. Besides the blocking he did not put up great numbers.
20 catches
155 yds
2 tds
But hey…if he has a pro bowl year that comes out of NO-WHERE I definetly will not complain.

I'm curious why you think so?

Better WR’ing core. Much more competition at TE. A thoroughly motivated teammate in Bo Scaife. And finally, no reason at all to suspect that Smash and Dash will either carry the rock less often or with less success. Granted, KC has another year in the system, but how much is that really worth for a 37-year-old guy? Especially in a run-first offense?

I could easily see Crumpler disappearing completely this season. And that’s without any drop-off in TE production.

Just a gut feel...

and I don’t see him disappearing this season. I see Cook eating more plays from Bo than from Alge.

Also, what I like about Alge in the offense is that the defense tends to forget him. He is often free after a fake block. He still got good hands. I see Dinger using him more on endzone plays.

That's a fair point...

…but if Defenses are forgetting him, it’s only because he’s forgettable.
