New Blog: RSL Soapbox for Real Salt Lake Fans!

Let's Revisit What Makes Music City Miracles Great!

With the recent Steve McNair tragedy, there has been a significant increase in daily traffic to Music City Miracles, and an increase in football fans all over wanting to sign up and participate in this little community we have at MCM. After all, where else on these interwebs can you find the comprehensive coverage of news and notes from all over that Jimmy and August West and all of our great contributors have accumulated here over the last week? Where? Could you find it? I didn't think so. So, in light of the last week, and so many new people joining up to be a part of us, I thought we could revisit what makes us so special.

Star-divide

  • First and foremost, this is a football blog. Specifically, a blog for the fans of the National Football League's Tennessee Titans. We are here to talk football, and while we may stray from time to time with ADub giving us a little ear candy on Fridays, or DannoE keeping us up to date on the celebrity happenings in New York City, we appreciate if the topics steer clear of religion or politics. There is no way to win those conversations fights arguments knock down drag out brawls discussions, it only gets nasty, and usually ends up in censure from the General Manager.
  • Let's also remember that we should treasure the fact that this is not a newspaper comment section, and we pride ourselves on staying above the low-brow "discussions" you usually see on same. Therefore, we appreciate that everyone can remember that this is a family blog, as everyone can be a Titan fan. If you need F-bombs to get your point across, then maybe this is not for you. However, we also realize that football is about passion(and I spent 13 years in the Marine Corps, so you know I have dropped a F-bomb or two), so every now and then a little language might be used that would make MrNorhtNashville blush, but let's try to keep it to a minimum.
  • A few other things that will cause you to be called in front of the class are (but not limited to):
*****Anything that may be construed as racist. There will be no discussion, only deletion.
    *****Spamming!
*****Any unnecessary personal attacks. When is a personal attack necessary? We'll get to that in a moment.
*****Anything,AND I MEAN ANYTHING derogatory about Steve McNair. He will always be our quarterback, and we are not naive about the situation, but this is our blog, and we make the rules. So if you have something ridiculous and inflammatory to say about #9, save it. Or find yourself a nice little newspaper comment section to go nuts in.
  • Now, if you are a fan of another NFL team, you are welcome to come on over and join in the lively conversations that we have going on, but there are a few things that you should be aware of before you start. WE HAVE HEARD IT ALL.
*****If you want to talk about Vince Young being stoopid/crying/quitting be ready for Superhorn to set you straight.
*****Just quit with the LenDale fat jokes. They are TIRED.
*****You better bring your grammar book, cause if you mess it up, smashville is gonna fix it. And then he'll photoshop you. Don't tempt him.
*****And don't bring no weak stats up in here to try to prove your point, cause hal41605 is ready to send you back to where you came from with your head spinning.
    *****It's B-U-L-L-U-C-K.
*****And if you decide you just want to come in and call people names and pick a fight, well, we'll just give MrNorhtNashville back his keyboard and tell him to do his thing.

We just want to talk football and have a good time! And all get along in the process, it's not that hard.

And everyone needs to be a contributer! Jimmy and ADub don't like to do ALL the work bringing us the most comprehensive Titan coverage on the web. Got a link that everyone would be interested in? Send it to MCMAugustWest@gmail.com (I promise he'll give you props for finding it). Is it urgent that we see it RIGHT NOW? Post a fanshot! Want to post a 4 paragraph diatribe on why we chose to throw a pass to Justin McSuckins on 4th down instead of let Bironas try? Post a fanpost! The rule of thumb is, if you have a link, picture or video, or if you have to put WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSIHATETHERAVENSWORDSWORDS in your fanpost to get it to post, you should be using a fanshot. The best fanshots and fanposts will always get promoted to the frontpage! We'll make you famous!

Just enjoy yourself. And as we go into the last month before the Hall of Fame game, and we continue to mourn and remember one of our heroes, let's remember that we CAN all get along!

Go Titans!

Please REC this if you have read it so that it will stick to the top of the column!

Editor's note: A big thanks to gramsey for posting this.

I have a couple of things to add:

  1. Smash has been doing a series of community projections.  The more people we get in on those the more fun they will be, so please join in the fun.
  2. Smash has also been doing create a caption contests on the weekends.  Join in on those as well.  Even if you don't "create a caption," rec someone's that you find funny.  Again, the more the merrier.
  3. This site has grown so much over the last few years, and it has been a lot of fun.  Please continue to spread that word to anyone you know that is a Titans' fan.  The more....wait for it....the merrier.

I have a feeling this is going to be a really special way, and I can't wait to witness it with all of you who read the site every day.

Urgh.

13-3 = not much appreciable increase in traffic. Senseless death? Why yes, that brings folks out.

le sigh

And while we’re sighing in French, let us take a moment and toast 37-yr-old Lance Armstrong, who looks amazing right now. If not for the Tour, Summer would be the worst sports season EVER!

Right...

If it wasnt for cycling, summer sports would suck.

Wait… what??? I admire Armstrong, but cycling is the most boring shit on TV ever.

I can't believe he might win again.

It’s ridiculous.

And I’m with you, Danno – July can’t be over fast enough, as far as sports go.

He's not going to win.

But the fact that he’s even in the discussion is frankly unbelievable.

You tell 'em, Gramsey712! ;)

Seriously, I like the kind of atmosphere that we have here at MCM, much better than most other NFL/Titans’ blogs, and hope that it continues.

This site is awesome!!!

I have only been a member of this site for a few weeks, but it is already the first thing I check every morning and the number one app on my iphone. This place is the promised land for Titans fans, and with a little luck next off season, we will be blogging as fans of the Super Bowl Champion Tennessee Titans!

The Great Steve McNair will always be remembered here

I see

That this rule has already been enforced:

*****Anything,AND I MEAN ANYTHING derogatory about Steve McNair. He will always be our quarterback, and we are not naive about the situation, but this is our blog, and we make the rules. So if you have something ridiculous and inflammatory to say about #9, save it. Or find yourself a nice little newspaper comment section to go nuts in.

kudos

Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

Granted, he is our QB and I love him, as I wrote on my own site but...

I think at SOME point shouldn’t we discuss the issues surrounding his death? I’m not saying now, so soon afterwards, but I think at some point the discussion must be had. Why it happened, how it affects his legacy, how we remember him, how it affects his reputation as an off-the-field philanthropist.

I think all of these are issues that Titans fans will want to discuss and if fan/team blogs are going to reflect the voice of the fan, which I think they do, then I think the discussion must be had. Saying “we are not naive about the situation…” Well, then at some point, we should discuss the situation. Putting on blinders to all the issues this situation brings up seems naive. Just one man’s opinion. And I do think the discussion can happen in a way that isn’t derogatory towards McNair and his memory. We even did a podcast on it, and at no point do I feel we were disrespectful to his memory. Maybe I am wrong about that, and we inadvertently were very disrespectful to him. I don’t think so though. I think there is a difference between honesty and derogatory in a situation like this.

I mean no disrespect, just an opinion.

by T--Rac's Posse on Jul 14, 2009 11:32 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I would tend to agree

It can be discussed without acrimony and I don’t think the circumstances will take away from his legacy at all, but we’ll talk about all that when the time comes.

The remark in particular that I was referring to and Jimmy struck from the record actually didn’t touch on that at all.

It was more about his decision to play for the Ravens followed by hate, hate, hate, and then apparently autism, but I didn’t get that far.

Tennessee WILL beat Georgia on the way to 9+ wins in '09!!!

by VolBrian on Jul 14, 2009 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

I just have no idea what to say about those issues. There are a lot of details that we don’t know now, and a lot that we never will. I just can’t think of what I would say that would be of any benefit.

I don't agree.

Why should we beat up such a difficult topic? It’s not our business, has no bearing on the current state of the team, and in no way reflects the rest of the man’s life.

Was he a saint? No. Does it deserve further discussion beyond that? No.

exactly

there’s no way to expound upon the subject without getting into things we couldn’t possibly know or understand. We knew Steve as the player, community figure and inspiration. We didn’t know him as a husband or father so I’m happy to keep my nose out of it.

To each his own though. I mean I never saw the moon landing or Barry Bond’s syringe but I’ll argue/debate about both if there’s nothing better to do.

I don't think it's beating up anything

And the “it’s not our business” excuse is crap. We speculate on people’s personal lives all the time and nearly every day. We don’t really know how good of a father Travis Henry is, but surrounding events can tell us enough to make an informed judgement and say more than likely, he’s a joke of a father.

With McNair, I think we now know enough to discuss and make reasonable judgments on these issues. And he is Our Quarterback, so in terms of what group of people should be discussing these issues, I think WE are the MOST qualified, because we saw it all as it happened. His DUI, his great outreach in the community, his upbringing as a young QB with Jeff Fisher, how he captured the city of Nashville’s love and brought them behind the Titans. I don’t think some damn Sportswriter who’s never been to Nashville and met McNair one time and uses the issue to promulgate his own political opinions (Mike Lupica and Whitlock come to mind) are more qualified than we are, and we’ll be the most fair to his memory and his legacy.

We do know enough to talk about it. We’ve talked about other issues with far less to go on. Running from it makes us look completely biased and naive.

But I don't want to.

Maybe you can keep it in the Fanposts? Then I can ignore it, and no one will mind (or even notice).

I'd like to add

I think MCM is ESPECIALLY qualified to do so because they approach personal speculation with much more responsibility than 99% of blogs out there.

by T--Rac's Posse on Jul 14, 2009 2:57 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Again I will ask...

If you MUST dissect the man’s life, can you PLEASE do it in the Fanposts?

Sounds good to me

Gramsey,

What a civil sounding set of rules to start the season with. Too bad you didn’t have these guidelines in place last year. :) Less than two weeks until the Tennessee high school teams put on the pads and go after it. I’m glad the summer is almost over.

Regardless of the ongoing spate of athlete indiscretions, I believe most of these guys, including McNair, have done a lot of good during their lives and both they and their families deserve our respect and compassion.

So how did you say we should spell Bullock?
