Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Everything Is Illuminated Edition
Coach Fisher went on 104.5 the Zone yesterday and responded to questions on VY's comments just as you'd expect him to:
"Our situation is clear, and I don’t have an issue with it, nor does Vince," Fisher said. "If Vince had had an issue with it, he would have been in my office. He’s been in my office once [in February], and we had a great visit. We visited this morning, and it didn’t come up, and he’s working hard, period...."
"I didn’t bat an eye at it. I saw Vince today and we didn’t bring it up. He was in the weight room today, working out," Fisher said. "He had a great workout, and the bottom line is this. He came in right at two months ago now…I discussed our meeting publicly. He wanted to know what he needed to do to earn his job back. He didn’t want it handed to him. He wanted to know what he needed to do."
Also mentioned in this radio appearance, Fisher still believes Vince Young will be our starter somewhere down the road. And that, my friends, is why Jeff Fisher is the best 'player's coach' in the league.
I'm not an LZ Granderson fan, but he's got some sage advice for VY in this excellent column (though it's full of armchair psychology):
Get whatever is the psychological equivalent of a cortisone shot and get your butt back in the game.
Following up on yesterday's story about corporate sponsorship patches on practice jerseys, Florio finally got ahold of the league to figure out why the Titans had been wearing one for years. Turns out this was an unregulated grey area until the league specifically allowed it last month. So, the Titans didn't violate a rule because there was no rule period.
Peter King and I kind of agree on something (VY, specifically). I'm going to go take a long, cold shower and try to forget that.
I know that many states already levy 'privilege taxes' against professional athletes on visiting teams from out of state, but that doesn't make it any less stupefying. I mean I'm not one to whine about the tax code but this is one of the dumber taxes I've ever seen, so of course Tennessee is hoping on board.
I'm linking this VY re-hash simply because the headline is pure gold.
Now that the slower period of the off-season is upon us your help in finding out of the way Titans stories is more important than ever. Regarding the quote from LZ, I don't think that was the advice...
The point was that men cannot admit to feeling pressure, insecurities ordepression and it is worse for professional atheletes. So Vince Young cannot say he needs to take time away from the public eye to work on whatever it is that’s troubling him.
The line you quoted is the perception from fans and VY should walk it off or rub some dirt in it and get back in the game.
I agree VY needs a better agent that can advise him to keep his mouth shut and tell him like it is.
true
I probably could have read that more closely… it’s a particularly good article from LZ
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
Jeff Fisher is the man
I’m listening to NFL radio and a Denver fan came on and pointed out the difference how Jeff Fisher diffuses situations and Josh McDaniel doesnt. He made a great point about how Fisher doesnt need to beat his chest to show he is the man….everyone knows that….Where as the Denver coach basically did that and lost Jay Cutler.
Once again Fisher says and does the right thing and shows why he is the man.

The insane bit about that privilege tax is that it would apply to NHL & NBA athletes, but not the NFL. Apparently the NFL has state governments cowering at the possible retribution…
More fun than a stick to the face!
