Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Final OTAs, Oh My Edition
Jim Wyatt goes over the potential and the questions regarding our ludicrously deep rotation at DE. I'm looking for Ford to push Kearse for playing time and provide a more consistent edge-rushing threat than he did last year. If we get that and everyone stays mostly healthy, we'll be terrorizing teams just like the days of yore all year long.
Looks like Donte' Stallworth won't do much jail time for running over and killing a pedestrian while driving drunk in Miami. As we covered a few months ago, Florida law gives the disgraced WR a break because the victim was drunk as well, and his actions helped lead to the accident.
Players are back in town for the final round of OTA's before the start of camp at the end of July. The team hopes Kenny Britt can get on the field more after a some hamstring limited him during the earlier sessions.
Chuck Cecil will have plenty of options if he needs someone to talk to about being a new defensive coordinator: there are 18 new ones across the league.
Whatifsports.com delivers a good breakdown o fthe AFC South, though they foolishly pick us as 3rd in the division. I also found this quite curios:
Most Significant Newcomer: Jovan Haye, DT
Hey look, I'm as big a fan of Haye as the next guy, but he's not our biggest off season addition by any stretch.
LenDale White joined L.A. radio station KLAC to talk about Vince young, Reggie Bush and more.
Drew Bennett will work out with the Buccaneers today as he tries to find a new home to kick start his career.
Now that the slower period of the off-season is upon us your help in finding out of the way Titans stories is more important than ever. If you have a link you'd like to submit for tomorrow's Morning Links email me at mcmaugustwest@gmail.com! (Be sure to include your commenting handle so I can give you glowing, semi-anonymous credit.)

Whatifsports.com's "absolute rankings"
puts us at 6-10, and gives us a 30% chance of beating the dolphins at home…. what!??!!?!?
what goes into these bogus predictions?
by ryansax on Jun 16, 2009 9:50 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
well.... this article just lost all credit
when it listed the titans best Possible Fantasy Sleeper as CJ!!
Since when are first round fantasy picks considered “sleepers”??
It also says he is the 4th best fantasy RB, which is fair…. but that it says that one of the fantasy RBs ahead of him is Slaton!

How a 22-21 projected loss to the Colts is a closer game than a 20-20 projected tie doesn’t make sense to me.

There were several games like that too me.
30 percent chance of beating the Cardinals at home? 30 percent chance of beating the 49ers?? Dolphins? Jets?? Not to mention we match very well with the Steelers and Pats; much better than 1/3 chance of winning.

undersized run defender (primarily)
he has the room to improve upon what he’s already accomplished, but you’d be taking a risk to bank on him being anything above good. He was a beast in college though.

The problem is that we already have a number of undersized but talented DTs.
They need a guy with some beef they can stack next to one of the “undersized but talented” guys.

+1
I feel like they need more ability to mix and match the weight on DL. Some offenses are more vulnerable to beef.

Brown, Vickerson and Marks
are all over 300 lbs. They aren’t monster guys, buy I wouldn’t call that undersized in any scheme.

I knew Vickerson was big, but I thought Marks was considered a smaller guy.
And I’ve seen Tony Brown get pushed around before. I’m sorry, but this will be a concern until I see them face a massive O-Line and stand their ground.

I think our heaviest
are big guys, granted, but still 20 to 30 pounds lighter than Albert. I don’t think it’s a huge deal, they’re not all in the 280 range, but it’s something to watch for sure when we play some heavy OLs.
Whose got the biggest / best OL for our first part of the season? Steelers had OL question marks going into last season, and I think they still have some this year don’t they? Didn’t pay that much attention to their offseason, and probably should’ve since we have that grudge match upcoming!

Looking at the schedule, I think...
Houston and Indy both pose significant potential problems early on. I say that because Slaton is a really, really good back who, if not contained, can gash you easy. And Indy has a very good O-Line. Making it worse is that both those teams have potent passing attacks, meaning that the D-Line will have to stand-up and stop the run, or it’ll be a long day all the way around.

"Indy has a very good O-Line"
I disagree. They look good in pass coverage because Peyton gets rid of the ball (even if he throws it to the ground). I haven’t seen them maul anyone in the running game in about 3 years though.
We’ll be good against the run, IMO.

he has the potential to be very good when he's healthy...
in 2007 he started all 16 games where he had 68 tackles and 6 sacks.

I don't even read BS articles like that anymore.
I mean what exactly did we do to be completely disrespected on a yearly basis? The “experts” usually never have us higher than second in our division much less leading it. The Colts should get props, sure. They have consistently shown they can win and have won the big one. But what exactly has Houston done to deserve anything but more talks about them being underachievers? Sure, they’ve got some great players but they’ve been poised for a “break-out” season for the past three and they still fail to deliver.
I guess on a positive note, the inability of the Titans to garner any respect gives our guys a chip on their shoulder going in.

I would like to give some props (out of character for me, I know)
to August for mentioning our defensive coordinator and not calling him Cecil Cooper.
Bravo!

Fantasy sleeper
… will be LenDale this year. Calling CJ a sleeper is laughable, but I’ll bet LenDale goes big this year and signs with the "Skins for a few trillion the next .

Stallworth
I haven’t read anything about the victim being drunk as well…I believe the break was given because the victim wasn’t in a crosswalk. Just saying.
by jthacker on Jun 16, 2009 12:25 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
No, it's because of the drunk thing
He got 30 days jailtime because of a law in Florida that vastly lowers culpability if other member of accident was drunk as well.

Stupid law -
the (dead, repeat DEAD) victim wasn’t driving. I don’t get that one. Stallworth was driving – drunk. Hit (with a deadly weapon) another intoxicated man WALKING across the street. Huh?! Unreal.
This rant is directed to bonehead lawmakers, not anyone on this site btw.

it's a bad law
apparently the original intent was for situations like you’re at a stop light drunk, and someone rear ends you. this law would allow you to get a less than DUI charge. Of course lawyers have perverted it.

had some stories about the toxicology report on the victim. That’s when things really turned around for Stallworth

PFT as a source?
Well, it was a legal issue, the one subject on which Florio actually has some clue what he’s talking about.
On the other hand, though, if he was any good as a lawyer, he wouldn’t have so much time to devote to being an amateur sports gossip-monger.

It's West Virgina
They only have like 12 cases a year, split among 3 lawyers.
