Back-up QB Vince Young Tosses A Little Money... Do You Care?
Paul K says it's a judgement thing. Stephanie Stradley uses it to link to every VY off the field thing that has hit the mainstream. TMZ compares VY to Pacman (in a subtely racist way, but whatever. If you expect smarter from TMZ then you're obviously not familiar with TMZ).
MCM is responding with a big ole' bucket of... meh. We threw it up in the morning links last week, and haven't touched it again because, well, it's kind of hard to find much to care about here.
The question I have is, do any of you good folks care? We haven't heard peep in the comments, so let us know in the poll and comments below!

Nelly sucks
He was throwing the money so everyone would chase it, clearing the way to the exit while holding his hands over his ears. He didn’t care what it cost him, he just had to get away from the awful noise!
Kindly pardon my igorance
But what of that article was subtly racist?

VY tosses a few ones
and that instantly warrants a comparison to Pacman? I have a hard time believing that comparison would be made about a white or latino player.
That’s a little irresponsible in my comparison.

Comparrison
I thought the Pacman comparison involved Vince “making it rain” like Pacman did. Both were Titans when they did this, and both looked like fools. I don’t think it had anything to do with the fact that they are both black men.
If Kerry Collins took a bunch of money and rained it down on a few country music fans, or at a strip club, you’d get a similar Pacman-like comparison.
Think you’ll pulling the race card a bit too early there. JMO.

perhaps so
but I disagree that you’d get that comparison with Kerry Collins. Maybe I just didn’t realize that white folks think Pacman monopolized ‘making it rain’ just because they didn’t know about it before then. I mean this has become an absurdly common-placed thing in hip-hop culture…

I think you are right
But would VY be compared to Pacman so quickly if Pacman had never been a Titan?
I think it is more of the team connection than the race connection here.

it's hard for me to give TMZ that much credit.

Excellent point.
And the more I think about it, a phrase that a lawyer friend of mine uses quite a bit comes to mind…

Oh well
i guess Vince doesn’t realize that everything he does represents the Titans and all their fans. thanks VY for making ME looking like an Idiot Titans fan! it’s great you can have that much disregard for The team that gave you that money and the fans who hope you turn it around!
Yeah. What a loser.
Dude has a little fun at a concert during a weekend where he is donating his time and effort raising money and helping people out, and everyone bags on him.
Glad to see we get both sides on this site these days.

You know
Pacman spent a lot of time with kids at inner city high schools in Nashville while he was in time.
It’s a shame we never discussed that on the site.
And it is nice to see Stradley really take her “career” to the next level by aligning herself with TMZ.

Not me.. he’s a loser.. and well.. if you can’t see the point maybe you fit into that as well!
Donating time and effort is a con for most these guys and a tax write off… and he was in VERY POOR judgement and TASTE for making it “rain” as he did.
His demeaner and total disregard is obvious. He only cares about Vince Young… and He has a lot of growing up to do

Oh yeah
Last time I donated my time it sure wasn’t at a CONCERT! try selling Hamburgers and Brats! Concert is NOT donating your time.. it’s screwing off..
Again as long as he wears a Titans uniform he represents the fans and team. POOR POOR Taste by him

Hopefully...
He wasn’t teaching anybody in the camp how to play QB.
“Alright, take one look at your TE, if he ain’t open, RUN. Of course if you do this too much coach will start yellin’ at you, so at that point you gotta throw a couple of no look interceptions inside your own 20 so he get off your back about runnin’ so much, and he’ll let you get back to it and just leave you alone. Now in a couple years you may end up bein’ replaced by a 49 year old journeyman QB, but with my strategy you’ll get 2 1/2 years of playin’ time and a big fat contract, so its worth it. Now, go get ’em kid!”

No reason other than to have his name as a headline
The guy is a polarizing figure, even among Titans fans. Writing articles about him generates traffic.
Though, it’s easy to understand why he says he “can’t win” considering he can’t even get good press when hosting a charity event.
i dont see any other top qbs making it rain,

Missing The Point
If you Google search Vince Young’s Birthday Bash, you’ll see the whole picture – literally.
Vince used the weekend, in concert with professional party planners, to have a weekend of debauchery in the name of charity.
Throughout the pictures online, especially those at the pool party, you are shown a lifestyle of money, girls, and celebrity.
The pictures of the women displayed are a wink to the pornographic lifestyle of celebrity.
In a time when millions of people are losing their jobs, the economy at it’s lowest, you have to ask yourself, “is this the most appropriate way to contribute to society?”

I'm sure Superhorn isn't qualified
Because he can’t throw as well as a QB should (sorry Superhorn), not because he thinks partying is fun.
by TheElusiveShadow on May 28, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions
True, but...
This is part of a pattern contrasting the two worlds of Vince.
The Multi-Million Dollar Celebrity versus the kid who wanted to prove the world wrong.
He needs to get back to basics. Kinda like Rocky after his loss to ClubberLang.
Hire Apollo Creed. That’s what he needs.
If he wants to donate money, do it quietly until he regains a starting position. What second string QB thinks this much of themself?
by pigskinpundits.com on May 27, 2009 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions
This this much of themself?
What does throwing a party and “making it rain” have to do with self worth/ego?
It means he’s bad with money. Taking anything else from this is silly.
What second string QB thinks this much of themself?
I can think of a second string RB who thinks “this much of himself”, and he’s on our team.
"throwing a party"
This was more than throwing a party. It was a week long series of events lining the pockets of party planners and strippers.
Go back and look at all the events associated with it.
It has everything to do with ego. If you think you’re better than you are, how are you going to take criticism or instruction from your coaches?
by pigskinpundits.com on May 27, 2009 12:49 PM CDT up reply actions
Still disagree.
And, this isn’t as a VY apologist, either. This is a blanket statement for all these kids who grew up poor and made it big in the NFL. In nearly every case, they are bad with money. Vince happens to be high profile guy so we see more of it. But, we’ve seen the same kind of stuff out of his colleagues, Reggie Bush, Mario Williams, and Matt Leinart.
I don't really care about those other guys
I’m a VY supporter. I’m rooting for him to come back big. Just frustrated that he’s not “getting it.”
The path he’s on will leave him broke and alone.
If he wants to win back the starting job, he needs to put the “party of me” away, and learn how to be a professional football player. Not just a professional “player.”
Growing up poor is no excuse.

It's the offseason.
And it’s his birthday. It’d be another thing if we say this in November, or even during training camp. I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal.
Wonder how much the stripper pool party made for charity?

It wouldn't be if ...
it wasn’t in a long line of other problems on top of him losing his job to a 37 year old journeyman QB. I mean, KFC threw 12 TDs and 7 INTs and pretty much everybody in the League, on ESPN, NFLN, everywhere, agreed it was a major upgrade over what VY had given us a year ago. 12 TDs, 7 INTs. Not exactly world beaters.
If Tom Brady did this, it wouldn’t be nearly as big of a deal. And its not a race thing. If Donovan McNabb did this, it wouldn’t be a big deal. Because they can actually play, and don’t make bad decisions, and don’t end up on youtube looking like an idiot once a year. VY does.
Here is the other thing, and I do NOT think it’s a coincidence. While it wouldn’t be a big deal if they did, none of those QB’s do hold a party like this and act like that at their own party. QB is about maturity and decision making, and VY has none of those qualities.

VY lost his job because he got hurt
And since they were still winning, Fisher decided not to put him back. That’s it. It happens a lot in this league. It’s false to say he lost his job normally.

If anything, this frivolous spending is helping boost the economy.
I did ask myself, "is this the most appropriate way to contribute to society?" They answer is an emphatic yes. Vince is clearly a true patriot. He was even generous enough to throw a stack of bills into a crowd.
LOL!
That was probably a question on his Wonderlic – "What would be the most effective way to stimulate the U.S. economy? a. pay more taxes b. create a small business c. make it rain

ok, i just watched the video
even me, the harshest critic of vince thinks this is being blown WAY out of proportion. you can hardly compare tossing a few notes around to some poor kids to paralyzing a bouncer at a strip club.
Your right, but
even me, the harshest critic of vince thinks this is being blown WAY out of proportion. you can hardly compare tossing a few notes around to some poor kids to paralyzing a bouncer at a strip club
Your right to say that these incidents do not compare. Pacman’s incident of “making it rain” is only relevant if you’re describing the actions around it – the beating, the shooting, etc.
However, the context of comparison is this:
1. Both were very high 1st round draft picks of the Titans
2. Both fell out of favor with Fisher (not good)
3. During the time “they were in Fisher’s doghouse”, they both tossed caution to the wind and turned up the party meter to “11” .
Although any comparison of Vince to Pacman directly is obsurd, the similarities in their standing with the Titans community is the same. Just as many people wanted the Titans to keep Pacman. Just as many want the Titans to keep Vince.
In the end, the question should be asked – What Would Fisher Do? WWFD
If you’re a player and you’re doing anything, while still trying to earn your way back to the team, that there is any remote question of how this might look to Jeff Fisher or the Titans organization, then don’t do it.
