Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Bad Signs Surrounding Keith Bulluck Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Mikey, make this re-signing happen.  Please for the love of all things holy get something done this summer so that it's not a lingering issue:

Asked if the Titans had made any overtures to his agent Gary Wichard about a new deal, Bulluck replied, "Not that I know of, and I think that would be something I would know about. I know this team, this organization’s track record, so I’m not really expecting them to do anything."

And he doesn’t take it personally at all, he says.

"It’s nothing personal at all. It’s a business and at the end of the day, I know the Tennessee Titans are going to do what’s best for the Tennessee Titans as an organization, and not Keith Bulluck," Bulluck said. "It’s not personal; it’s just the business standpoint. That’s why I have the mentality that I have and I’ve had it for a couple of years. It doesn’t bother me."

Tennessee_titans_30x21 More on Bulluck's feeling like this is his last year as a Titan, and more here as well.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Jason Jones has added 10 lbs. now that he's going to be playing the DT spot exclusively this year.  Given his size and frame it probably won't slow him down either.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Ex-teammate Alge Crumpler hopes Vick gets a second shot now that he's paid his dues; I'm just hoping Vick gets rabies or distemper or something like that.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Why Tony Dungy is sticking his neck out for Vick when there are tons of people out there struggling with problems that are not of their own creation, I will never understand.  Vick deserves a second chance at freedom, not a second chance at one of the most highly coveted jobs in the world.

Now that the slower period of the off-season is upon us your help in finding out of the way Titans stories is more important than ever.  If you have a link you'd like to submit for tomorrow's Morning Links email me at mcmaugustwest@gmail.com!  (Be sure to include your commenting handle so I can give you glowing, semi-anonymous credit.)

Vick has paid his debt to society

and as such deserves to ply his trade like anyone else. He got sentenced to 2 years and served 19 months – much more than your average rapist. I for one would love to see him in a Titans uniform – I think he’s going to light it up when he gets his opportunity to play again.

I don't see Vick coming back to form

The chances of Michael Vick coming back to peak performance are low. He’s going to be a few years older and out of practice. Maybe even more important, his style of game is fading in the NFL. In my opinion, teams are moving away from the Vick, Young style QB realizing that these types of QB’s don’t win Super Bowls. Accuracy and game management have become the attributes the current NFL coordinators are seeking.

All in all, it’s over for Vick.

i would stop supporting the titans

the minute vick walked in the door. i would not watch, speak, or read anything about them as long as he was on the roster, and yes that includes this site and my season tickets.

This is retarded!

I know this is gonna tick a lot of people off but I don’t really care! This Micheal Vick crap has got to stop. Yea what he did was illegal, but we are talking about DOGS!!!!!! Not people we let murderers play in the NFL (RAY RAY) We even let drunken murderers play (STALLWORTH) and we get all upset about a freakin animal that has no soul anyway!!!! Maybe I dont get it, Yea I have had a family pet or two, but come on people. The guy made a mistake, paid a RIDICULOUS amount of jail time for it, and now we want to whine and cry cause he made innocent little puppies fight and some of them died.

This is so stupid lets get over this. IT WAS A FREAKIN DOG!!!!!!!! Let the man be, focus your concerns and hatred on things that actually matter, like real murderers! I shot and killed a dog once should I do time?? Come on!!!!!!

Can of worms

CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP….

BBB will weigh in with my perspective soon….

I thought about doing a Vick post the other day, but there is really no shot the Titans would be interested in him. Also, had I done that, gramsey would have called me BBS again, and I am not sure we could still be friends if he did it twice.

That would have been very BBSish

But I agree that our friendship would be very strained by another slip of the keyboard like that one.

mike vick

can die in fire for all i care.

anyone psychotic enough to get off on the maiming, mutilating, and electrocution of innocent, defenseless creatures is a piece of trash, plain and simple, and metaphorically i piss on his future grave.

research has proven that the empathetic capabilities of the average dog are completely unparalleled in the rest of the animal kingdom with reference to humans. essentially the domestic canine has evolved (speaking of a can of worms..) for a few thousand years to serve no other purpose than to love its master. they have evolved this way because it was their meal ticket— dogs that endear themselves to humans generally live longer healthier lives. they can be trained after birth to do other things, like hunt, provide assistance to handicapped people, or to become vicious killers, but one of their many naturally endowed impulses is simply to love people. to me, this sets them apart from every other animal.

it takes a special kind of evil to look unconditional love in the face and decide to dunk it it water and strap electrical wires to it because it couldn’t mutilate the other unfortunate creatures well enough for him.

it was hundreds of dogs over several years, and he did it for profit, through gambling, which is a whole other reason why the nfl should have banned him for life.

vincanity, if you shot a dog just to get off on killing it, then i would say the same about you. if it was an act of mercy or defense, different discussion.

ps. beyond dog fighting, vick was a bad qb before prison. we already have our own “great athlete who can’t throw an accurate pass or read a defense, dumb as a sack of hammers” qb. do we really need a back up at that position? what if something were to happen to vince and he couldn’t pout on the bench anymore? who would fill in????

Not to mention pick up an injured dog and slam it to the ground over and over and over and over until it is dead.

I don’t understand how someone could not have a problem with a human being that could do that.

But I guess that is what makes this country the great place it is today!

Cause it's a DOG!!!!

For the love of God people. I have no problem with this cause its a freakin DOG! An ANIMAL no diffrent than chicken fighting (Shout out to Alabama) DO we whine and cry over poor defensless chickens and do I give a flying flip that they are empathetic? NO they taste good. This is no diffrent except we are not eating the dogs (unless you eat americanized chinese food) If you are gonna go freakin nuts over this, then you better do it for every other animal thats out there dying in a sport of fighting or else you are a freakin hypocrit to your cause.

p.s. I did not shoot the dog just to watch it die, but I shot it rather cause it kept hanging around on my property and growling at the nephew. So it was self defense so to speak.

100% Agree with this

Anyone who kills or tortures an animal for no other reason than monetary gain or entertainment is nothing but an animal themselves and deserves to be treated as such. That includes chickens too…

Hell I come from a long line of hunters and the first thing they taught me was you never kill an animal you won’t eat, and you respect the animal by making it as quick and merciful as possible. I myself don’t hunt because I never did like killing animals even that way but most of my family still does. Even the most avid of them are completely against dog and chicken fighting too.

And to keep saying that it shouldn’t matter because it was ‘just a dog’ is nonsense. Do some research on sociopaths and serial killers. A large majority of them began by torturing animals until the thrill of it wasn’t enough for them any more and they moved on to other targets…like people. What kind of sick person enjoys animals ripping each other to shreds anyway?

Signing Vick will be...

a PR nightmare for any team, CFL and AFL included. Animal rights activists would swoop down on them like a locust swarm. Animal loving fans would stop supporting you, etc.

No way that he plays in the NFL again. No team will be crazy enough to sign him. Ok, maybe the Raiders. But again he will alienate a lot of fans. Why do this in exchange for a mediocre QB?

Go Titans!

Bulluck

I hope the Titans re-sign Bulluck. He’s the heart of the defense and a fan favorite.

HOWEVER< I wouldn’t see it as wise for the Titans to begin negotiations until some time during the season. Because he is now in the “aging veteran” class, there’s a higher risk for injury. If he can play up to opitmal performance for a significant amount of time next season, then I think it would be appropriate to get a deal wrapped up (3 year in my opinion)

by pigskinpundits.com on May 22, 2009 8:15 AM CDT reply actions

On Bulluck...

I would love to see him retire as a Titan.

But on the point of view of the FO. This is a business and they don’t owe Bulluck anything to resign him. Bulluck has been paid as one of the top LBs in the league. Bulluck has proven that he is an elite LB, but new contracts are given not for past performances but on the expectation of future performance.

As such, I agree with pigskinpundits that, at the earliest, negotiations will start mid-season. And given this situation, I expect Bulluck to sign with the highest bidder (or be franchised) if nothing can be worked out and he reaches free agency.

Go Titans!

Did you guys see the...

BULLUCK locker room interviews from titansonline.com he WAS NOT happy to be there. I dont know if it was the contract situation or the million ota’s he’s been through in his career but he wasn’t at all excited like most of the other guys to start work for this season. I love the man… it was weird to see him like that.

Tony Dungy

is a great man who has done a lot of good in this world. So what if he takes one day to visit a guy he knows in jail and try to help him out. Should we attack you if you go visit a friend in jail, when u could have been helping the needy? I don’t like Vick at all, but come on, that’s ridiculous.

by The Nasty One Lives on May 22, 2009 9:03 AM CDT reply actions

Mike Vick

I think Mike Vick is a man with serious problems and issues. But he has paid his debt to society, and it is not a privilege or a right to play or not to play in the NFL, it’s a business deal. If a Wall Street Firm hired an ex-con who had been convicted of dog fighting because he had a strong financial mind, I wouldn’t bat an eyelash. I don’t think it’s different for Vick in the NFL. If he can get some moron owner to give him a few hundred thousand dollars to come in and give football another shot, then I don’t have a problem with it. This is America, and once someone has paid his debt to society, if he can then get a deal from a team to play football, then I don’t think he should be hampered.

Now I think any team that would sign him is flat out retarded and deserves the PR nightmare that would follow. Plus I don’t think he would be any good. I heard on the radio (if it’s on the internet or the radio, it’s gotta be true, right?) he has missed the equivalent of 2,000 snaps of gametime experience and that doesn’t include practice. I just don’t see how Vick could all of a sudden become good when 3 years ago, he was the QB of a mediocre 7-9 team and his completion percentage was something like 53%.

The difference...

between the Wall Street Firm and the NFL is most kids don’t wear jersies with Wall Street workers names on them. But in all fairness he wouldn’t be the only bad role model in the NFL by a long shot and Wall Street already employs a lot of criminals anyway so it was a pretty good comparison.

We could use him!

As a tackling dummy! Or maybe any time one of our players drew some negative attention for any reason we could just stand him next to Vick to draw the attention away.

It would be like ‘VY has been partying again instead of practicing. Let’s go get a comment…oh wait…is that Mike Vick he is standing next to? I can’t believe what he did. Do you even think he feels remorse?….’ then VY could just walk away forgotten.

Words cannot express how naive and just down right dumb Vincanity is. Apologies to Jimmy, but this had to be said. That guy is a moron. When your arguments consist of “it’s just a dog!!!!” and “we don’t cry over chickens do we?!?!”, the only course of action is to put you through what those dogs went through and see if you have the same feelings afterward. Wow, just wow.
