One more thought on James Harrison vs. The White House
If Harrison is refusing to attend the White House reception for the Super Bowl champion Steelers because they 'were only invited because they won', does that mean he doesn't want his championship ring? He only gets that because they won.
Does he think the Steelers shouldn't accept the Lombardi Trophy, since they only get it because they won?
I know this isn't Titans related, but I'm just so dumbfounded by this line of thinking and it's a really slow news cycle today.

harrison can't have been serious
clearly he just doesn’t give a damn about the visit to the white house, since this is refusal #2 to president #2. the only difference now, i guess, is that his is now a superstar with the contract to match it so he feels like he can say wild stuff to the media about it instead of just slinking off into the background and not going. as a nobody, he couldn’t have gotten away with such idiocy, but now he is enjoying the privilege of being able to spout off whatever he wants to reporters.

i thought he was going to talk about his tax bracket...
as a reason for not going.
You know, the socialist president is taking my money (sort of like a pga tour golfer would say).
But his stated excuse is really, really dumb.
I think it is hilarious
because he is so stoopid.
I would like to thank him for giving me a laugh.

He probably just doesn't care about meeting the President.
Honestly, I wouldn’t care much either and that has nothing to do with who the President is. It’s just not something I’d get all excited about – and that’s coming from a guy like me who is broke. If I had Harrison-type money, I think I’d care even less. We don’t have kings in America. And I know that hero worship is big in this country. But I just wouldn’t care much more about meeting the guy than Harrison is.
Now, his line of reasoning sounded really, really dumb. I mean, really dumb. He should’ve just said he wasn’t all that interested in things like that and left it at that.
This is ridiculous
Going to the White House is a TEAM FUNCTION. You go with your team. It doesnt matter whether he is not excited about going. Also…how arrogant are you that you would snub the president of the United States of America? He embarrassed his owner as well no doubt.
Not to mention….how dumb is the reason for not going? He only invited us cause we won? Of course thats the reason you moron! He’s a busy guy….he doesn’t have time to visit with 32 teams. Its a tradition.
Thank you for taking the attention off of the terrible towel incident….this is much more hanus!
Attn James Harrison…I have lost all respect for you…you are an arrogant self centered idiot.
The Steelers are supposed to be a classy organization….this infuriates me. i hope the entire NFL beats on them like a rented mule this year.
And this was his explanation today...
"I decided not to go because I don’t want to go," Harrison said, the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. "No personal feelings. No nothing. I just don’t want to go. That’s all there is to it. Stop asking me."

At least he realized how retarded that first reason sounded.

Individual
Perhaps his reasons are personal. Look at the mess Miss California got herself into stating her true opinion. In today’s society if you don’t conform to the liberal movement you are ridiculed publicly. Maybe he is making a silent stand. Perhaps he has principles. I mean, you all have nothing to go on and you’ve opened a thread to bash him. Given more ammunition, think of the shots you’d take. Maybe he doesn’t believe in the direction the government is moving our nation, regardless of the man that holds the office. Is it stupid to think for yourself, to make your own decisions? Are you smart for doing what everyone else does unquestioningly?
I'm your huckleberry...
all I said was that his reasoning was asinine.
You’re the one reading political bias in it. Nobody is making him go, but he doesn’t have to sound like a brat in rejecting the offer.

You've got it all figured out...
It’s a vast left-wing conspiracy out to smear Steelers players.

You also
seem to be forgetting that Harrison DID give an excuse at first. A really lame one that made him sound like an arrogant fool. Now he is going back and saying that he just doesn’t want to go. If he came out and said “I won’t go because I am taking a stand against the office in protest” there would be a lot of haters but there would also be a lot of people supporting him. Instead he gave the reason that they were only invited because they won. Because of that he has very few if any supporters. He didn’t leave room for benefit of the doubt. He made himself sound like a petulant child and now he is being treated as such.
Another comment from Harrison
A well-placed source, however, later revealed the real reason for Harrison’s reluctance to make the trip: He has a fear of flying and is a “wreck” whenever he must take team flights.
I’m guessing he also has a fear of driving a few hours.

Remember Finny's story that he was too scared to fly to the Pro Bowl?
That was made up, maybe this is too
