Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Charitable Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 JJ Cooper torches The Tennessean's Gary Estwick for his accounting of the team's off-season progress.  Of course JJ is a huge Steelers fan, so his logic is typically narrow and rigidly tied to convention as he seems to assume that this year's D-Line will try to win with the same game plan rather than adapting to the new line-up.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Chris Hope recently held a fundraiser for Soul4Souls here in Nashville, which collects new and used shoes for distribution to those in need worldwide.  Hope also donates $100 to the fund for every tackle he makes.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Speaking of Titans charity work, Jeff Fisher's annual softball game has been scheduled for June 20th at Greer Stadium.  All proceeds go to Mercy Ministries, Soles4Souls, Catch-a-Dream, Nashville Children’s Alliance and various other local charities.  This event is a star-studded affair and a great time if you're in the area.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 As everyone knows Tony Kornheiser has left Monday Night Football and is being replaced by John Gruden.  I think Tony K is a very talented guy who may go down as the worst color analyst ever.  I'm hoping with Gruden in the mix the booth team will actually focus on the game, and not talk about themselves for 3 quarters if a close game.  Here Jim Wyatt gives his two cents.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Mike Florio is 'reporting' (he's just following the Twitter page of some guy at the NFL Network) that the 2013 Super Bowl will most likely be awarded to New Orleans this afternoon.

Now that the slower period of the off-season is upon us your help in finding out of the way Titans stories is more important than ever.  If you have a link you'd like to submit for tomorrow's Morning Links email me at mcmaugustwest@gmail.com!  (Be sure to include your commenting handle so I can give you glowing, semi-anonymous credit.)

tony k as worst ever:

how quickly everyone forgets the dennis miller era. people think kornheiser never fit in? people think kornheiser relied too heavily on non sequiturs? i didn’t exactly enjoy his work on MNF, and compared to his analysis/journalist role on PTI, his color skills are definitely questionable at best, but dennis freaking miller guys!!! im not sure he ever once actually talked about football with out some esoteric reference to something no one knows anything about. kornheiser had serious chemistry/“know your role” issues, but miller was an abomination to the spoken word on live television.

ESPN actually had to assemble a web archive of all of miller’s completely tangential rants during his time on MNF. this discussion is officially over. seriously, just browse through a few games, you will be amazed. this might stand as one of the greatest sports comedy websites on the entire web.

they're both douchbags

i’m calling for prime time and joe theisman – prime is flamboyant and comical, and theisman has that william shatner vibe about him. and they’re both very knowledgeable about the game, won superbowls and played at a very high level.

Gruden will not translate well

The things you like about Gruden involve his intense way of communicating. This won’t translate well since he’ll have to speak in a calm demeanor.

Also, where are the black guys? Tirico is black (although you could make an argument that he’s white). Would Deion Sanders not be a better pick over Gruden?

Deion Would Be Great

Or what about Emmit? :) Seriously though, Deion would be great for Monday Night Football.

Emmitt got fired because he was terrible,

and Deion works for the NFL Network.

FILE - In this Sept. 4, 2009 file photo, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill aims a pass downfield against the San Diego Chargers during the first quarter of an NFL preseason football game in San Diego. Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
