Colts Lose Moore/Mudd...big deal?

It is official the colts will lose offensive coordinator Tom Moore and Offensive Line Coach Howard Mudd to retirement. This according to the Indianapolis Star.

What does this mean for our rivals...a drop off? could Peyton somehow wear a headset  under his helmet and do both job?..

That basically means an entirely new coaching staff..How much of an effect do you think that this will have with Manning at the helm.

I think were definitely a deeper more talented team then the Colts, but we all know as long as 18 is back there its going to be tough.

I would also be remissed not to add that Tom Moore looks goofy...not bad goofy more like a grandfather in some cartoon..just throwing it out there.

a few thoughts

the biggest hit, it seems to me, is losing mudd. the colts have always had a heck of an o-line and losing someone who is almost in the same league as mike munchak would suck. if they screw up and get a guy who sucks to replace him it could cause some major problems for their offense.

peyton is still going to be the end-all-be-all of the colts offense, so as long as he is performing at a high level, OC doesn’t seem too crucial.

as far as a drop off is concerned, i doubt it. the person the colts can’t afford to lose as far as non-players are concerned is bill polian. as long as he is there cranking out successful draft class after successful draft class in support of manning, the colts will be contenders year in and year out.

A few points:

1. Peyton is the offense. Tom Moore was more of a guy who could give a different perspective on the situation from the sideline.

2. Howard Mudd and Tom Moore’s replacements have already been announced and have been with the team for years. The new offensive coordinator is Clyde Christensen, and the offensive line coach is Pete Metzelaars.

3. I don’t anticipate a drop off at all.

I agree that this won't have a huge effect on the Colts

But to not expect any kind of a drop off, at least at the beginning of the season when all of these new coaches are getting their bearings, is a bit unrealistic. The two guys that I think drive the Colts are Peyton Manning and Bill Polian, with both of them doing their jobs at the levels they have been doing them over the last few years, the Colts will always be competitive.

Well, I said I don’t anticipate a drop off. It’s very well possible that the Colts could stumble out of the gate, but I just find it hard to believe with all of the experience in this coaching staff and the experience in the players themselves. But you are absolutely right, to not expect a drop off is definitely unrealistic, I’m just hoping there is none.
