REPORT: Prospects Including Percy Harvin and Clay Matthews Test Positive at Combine
Mocking The Draft via NFL Draft Bible is reporting that the USC linebackers, Clay Matthews and Brian Cushing, tested positive for steroids at the combine, and that B.J. Raji, Vontae Davis, and Percy Harvin tested positive for marijuana. (SI is also reporting the Raji positive.)
It blows my mind that these guys would be that stupid. You know exactly when the combine is for months in advance. Even if you are dumb enough to use that stuff in the first place when you are on the cusp of making millions of dollars, how are you dumb enough to not make sure your system is clean when the combine comes around? It will be interesting to see if these guys will fall or not.

I wonder if Raji and Harvin lit up that weed with million dollar bills?

Yeah...
That’s exactly what this team needs… We don’t need another pacman
Christie kicks it high and short...Gonna be fielded by Lorenzo Neal at the 25...He dishes it back to Wycheck...He throws it across the field to Dyson...
Crowd roaring after Suter’s goal tied it up… Preds win the faceoff and Arnott crosses the blueline, slapshot and a SCORE! Arnott blows it by Hasek and the Preds take the lead 4-3…

I dont think
this guy is another pac because he smoked a little weed. There were a lot more red flags on adam before we drafted him.

Gotcha--I agree. Legalize all that shit and let people do whatever they want to do to themselves--and tax the hell out of it.
I thought you meant that we shouldn’t care that they were so stupid to do something that they knew was illegal.

I never did.
And it’s totally incorrect to assume that everyone else did, too. Some people don’t smoke. It is a fact of life.

very correct
but i don’t think anyone’s personal opinions about using it one way or another should matter. i never meant to endorse or even comment at all on the actual usage. i was only speaking on it as an issue of legal and public policy. prohibition doesn’t work, plain and simple, and it is expensive as hell.
in a time when almost every state is on the verge of bankruptcy to continue wasting money on lengthy prosecution and penal costs for non-violent small time users is absurd.
then you have to consider the billions of dollars annually that could go into state budgets as sales tax instead of into the hands of gangsters and thugs, which has paid for some of them to hijack large portions of a certain country at our southern border. the violence and kidnappings have already begun to spill over onto this side.
no prohibition, no black market, no huge drug cartels.
all of this is without mentioning the fact that making it illegal has failed to provide any decrease in usage. in fact all major surveys indicate that soft drugs are becoming both more common and more expensive. that’s pretty powerful economic evidence that demand is unresponsive to criminality.
then consider that any research done since the “reefer madness” era shows that weed is both less harmful and less addictive than either tobacco or alcohol and you really have to ask, “what the hell is going on out there?!?”
apologies for irrelevant content on a sports blog, but i just wanted to clarify that i never meant to normalize, endorse, or criticize anyone’s personal habits (or lack of habits) in any way shape or form. the truth is, as long as it is done in a responsible and private manner, i couldn’t care less what you are doing. the problem i have is that our long standing policies are neither private nor responsible.
and dannoe, i would call you a nerd, but i just spoke out against hypocrisy. sports and politics are my real addictions. it’s funny how drug policy is one of the most common overlaps though…

plenty of 'student athletes' who had millions on the line and a known test date coming.
It’s how much of an idiot you have to be to get nailed by this test, rather than the act that bugs me.

I agree that they are stupid for knowing the test was coming and still getting caught
But smoking a little reefer (in my mind) isn’t nearly as bad as getting busted for steroids like Cushing and Mathews.

Agreed.
Weed is not a performance enhancing drug (if anything it is a performance minimizing drug if not used responsibly) while steroids affects the balance and integrity of the game. I could care less about someone’s recreational drug use (despite the illegality) as opposed to something that hurts the integrity of the game.

To know you're f-ing up your one shot
I agree with August. The point is that these combines are so critical to where you’re drafted, anyone who would self-sabbatoge their chances is a fool. It’s a pre-cursor to the types of behavior you can expect once signed.
The NFL is a professional business. If you send in a crappy resume and a flunking wonderlic score, what General Manager would be stupid enough to hire you? (Matt Millen or insert idiot GM’s here).

unless as a MtD commenter pointed out
the report is right, the players agent who would know about a positive test has told (a) team(s) to get ahead of the story/put their own spin on it. Then the team that was told leaked to the site.

I have a feeling that NFL Draft Bible is going to get itself into some real trouble over these unsubstantiated reports. The League is denying these so-called positive results. It’s really not fair to damage these players’ draft status/potential with mere rumors.
