2009 NFL Draft Day Two Open Thread
Now come the rounds where things get really interesting. Be sure and stick around all day for instant analysis of the Titans' selections. I am still holding out hope for an early move up to get D.J. Moore.

he's not even in Mel's top 10 left on the board
I’m stunned.
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
espn draft cast
has had him as best available since before our #2 pick
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
soooo unless the titans move up
are we thinking TE this round? bunches left.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
A+ yesterday
Couldn’t be more pleased with the additions we made yesterday. Senderrick ran a 4.7 coming out of high school, recently switched from DE to DT, and has a lot of room to grow. After two years of weight training (only 16 reps at 225 in the combine) he could develop into a monster.
Both of our picks are young. Marks left early but is 22. Kenny Britt will still be 20 on opening day. He’s going to be our number 2 wideout by game 5.
Today, I’d like to trade up and address both TE and CB this round.
TE: Jared Cook, Shawn Nelson, James Casey,
CB: DJ Moore, Macho Harris, Donald Washington.
Marks can dunk @ 6' 2" 306
holy crap. i would complain more about neglecting moore, but marks seems like exactly the kind of guy washburn can mold into a big time player.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
scoring in the paint!!!
post moves are key!
but seriously, it’s more about the explosion he gets when he pushes. great sign of his athleticism and quickness, as well as general leg power.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Today we have picks #
94, 130, 135, 173, 203, 206, 239, 242
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
Other great players still out there
Emmanuel Cook is a Bob Sanders
Jasper Brinkley can lay the wood at ILB
Duke Robinson best OG in a few years.
I'm a big Jasper Brinkley fan...
would love to see us add him
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
how much longer will the titans watch moore fall
before they make a move? we have tons of picks, and we won’t need to keep more than half of them.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
its his speed for sure
but he never looked slow in the SEC
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
This is my point every year
I’m not sure who they think is number one on the board, but I do know that a ton of guys I think are great are still out there and will be gone at 94. If you like a guy, move up and grab him; don’t wait for God to put him in your lap (which seems to be the FO’s draft strategy).
I'm still bitter
we didn’t move up and grab Dsean last year. If nothing else, just for a KR.
But, again, I think they handled yesterday really well. I had Britt higher than Nicks. But I’m not Brocado. Seriously.
except for RB with 1st pick
every pick this round has been defense so far
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.

Britt, Marks and Moore would be a helluva top 3 picks.

yeah i would've assumed the order would be
Britt, Moore and Marks
Moore might be slow but at the end of 3rd round why not
i love to rag on vandy, it's no secret
but moore was able to hang quite well in one of the fastest conferences in the nation. ignoring all of that because of a number on a piece of paper is crazy.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Excellent pick by Detroit
their really packing on the offensive talent this weekend.

lol WR run
it would be amazing if titans can trade up (pick up another 3rd with 4th, 6th, 7th)
and pick Cook/Nelson and Moore/Harris
yeah allen is a good hitter
i wonder if he might not end up at strong safety

scout's inc. says mouton is as mediocre as they come, and still lacks size and speed
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
We passed on DJ for this!?!?!
Lacks prototypical height, bulk, and top-end speed for the position.
Overall footwork is a bit inconsistent. Doesn’t stay low in backpedal and can be a second late breaking on the ball as a result. Recovery speed is marginal.

it MUST be an injury
cuz this guy isnt any faster or bigger than moore, and he played jv teams out in hawaii
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
He had 1 pick last year. 1.
If I played Louisiana Tech, San Jose St., and New Mexico St., I could probably scrounge up 2.
Is there any chance we get DJ in the third round?
even despite this CB pick?

I'm surprised Iglesias lasted this long.
I thought he was projected for the late 2nd, early third. Good value there for da Bears.
Mouton doesn't sound too bad
i like cook pick too. wish we could’ve got him using our lower picks instead of 2nd in 2010 tho
we need to win this year though
once kerry starts to lose it, we have no good options @ qb
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
they say hes supposed to be like Shannon Sharpe tho.................
2nd round pick for a HOF would be worth it
Titan 4 Life
man
no one is going to recognize our offense next year.

change is good
i like these moves. shows that we have the ability to win without resorting to extreme FA deals and trades.

somethig is really wrong with
Moore and Duke
they are not falling. i think they are just off the board for all teams
eventually someone will take a chance though right?
i mean we are talking about an elite corner/return man from an elite conference. that counts for nothing?
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
7 picks left
we could totally afford to take a flier on dj moore

Dig it
McGrath notes from nfl.com:
Positives: Rangy build with plenty of room for additional growth. … Good instincts. … Flows to the action quickly and puts himself in position to make a play. … Reads the quarterback’s eyes in coverage. … Recognizes the screen and draw and isn’t fooled often. … Good speed to the flanks. .. Reliable open-field tackler who can break down in space and make the secure stop. … Good agility to slip past blockers. … Good balance to handle working through trash. … Flashes some aggression taking on blocks, though he needs more consistency in this area. … Improved in this area as a junior.
Negatives: Undersized. … Lacks bulk in both his upper and lower body and looks more like a strong safety than a middle linebacker. … Lacks the straight-line speed and hips for coverage to make the transition to defensive back. … Likes to avoid blockers rather than forcefully taking them on. … Drag-down tackler who only occasionally shows legitimate pop as a tackler. … Bit of a pile jumper. … Often credited for tackles in which he didn’t make the play.
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
Troy Kropog
Positives: Eases out of his stance in pass protection. Good lateral quickness and balance to mirror the defender. Good depth on his kick-step and can accelerate laterally if beaten off the snap. When he uses his hands, can be effective latching on and riding the pass rusher wide. Good burst off the snap to block down and to get to the second level. Flashes agility in space to block on the move. Good effort and surprising straight-line speed to make blocks downfield.
Negatives: Only marginal initial quickness off the snap for pass protection. Often beaten off the snap and has to rely on his kick-step and speed to recover. Marginal upper-body strength to sustain blocks. Absorbs, rather than delivering blows while in pass protection and can be walked back into the pocket. Better blocking on the move than as a drive blocker. A bit thick around the middle. Could struggle with the adjustment in speed at the NFL level.
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
Also
Troy prepared for the draft at D-1 here in town, along with several ex-Titans so the FO is probably very familiar with him by now. I know several people around D-1 who spoke very highly of him as a man and a player. I like this pick a lot.
Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.
i hope we trade up in the 5th round
otherwise we have to wait for more than two hours for our next pick
Go Titans!
soooooooooo
with all obvious needs but a project QB taken care of, what’s next? gotta be a RB somewhere right? more d line?
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
Ricky Jean-Francois is still on the board
perfect tweener DE/DT for washburn’s rotation
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
definately Javon Ringer...............................
He is a BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go ahead and trade Lendale for Boldin
Titan 4 Life
They won't want LenDale now....
….that they have Beanie.
However, the Cook pick – along with the Todd Heap and second-round pick for Boldin talk – leads me to wonder (or perhaps just hope) that a Scaife (or Crumpler) + pick(s) for Boldin deal might not be entirely off the table?
Maybe I’m dreaming……but I’m allowed. It would make sense when you already have two Pro Bowl TEs and then draft one that you could make a deal like that……
