Tennessee Titans Morning Links: That Takes A Lot Of Chutzpah, LenDale Edition
See, this is what is bugging me about LenDale as he heads into his contract year: he and his agent seem to have no shame about the fact that LenDale is openly saying that he's finally getting in shape and how great of a thing that is for the Titans... WHY IS THAT OK!?! He should have been doing that the previous three seasons because... IT'S HIS JOB! Have you no shame, LenDale?
Kerry Collins took his turn leading the Titans caravan through Columbia and Thompson Station, and here he offers up a few thoughts on the offense and the Titans' draft plans.
Rey Maualuga is in town for his scheduled visit with the Titans. I know Rey has some issues and can be overly emotional on the field (leading to false steps and over-pursuit), but if you don't think he can help this defense from day one you're crazy. He'd be the first LB we've had in a long time that would be an enforcer, and he can play in the middle or outside as needed.
Todd McShay's new mock draft has us taking Vontae Davis, despite the red flags about attitude and coachability. We shall see what happens if he is available when we pick, because I honestly don't know what they would do.
The Titans have been thrust into a sticky situation regarding their game with the Jets on September 27th it marks the beginning of the Jewish high holiday of Yom Kippur. That seems a little insensitive considering it's a 4:15 pm start, and Yom Kippur requires observant Jews to be home at sundown (when the holiday actually begins). I mean that's different than a Christmas day game because that holiday doesn't focus on specific times of the day. I wouldn't be surprised to see the game shifted to a noon start to all sides are happy since the Jets have a decent number of Jewish season ticket holders. * Update: you can get the the semetic side of this complaint right from the source: Fireman Ed's kosher counterpart, Fireman Eliezer (via KSK).
Oh yeah, for those who have been in a cave since Tuesday night: we're playing on Christmas Day as well, despite it being a Friday. So folks, please don't boo and throw batteries at Santa... this isn't Philly!
Yahoo! Sports takes a look at the Titans' draft needs and matches them with the guys we've had in for visits.

Wow August, that's a first for me!
I’ve never seen an article or post referring to the NFL deciding scheduling due to concern for Jews.
They seem to have no problem scheduling on Christmas or Thanksgiving?

the difference is
Yom Kippur requires observant Jews to be home or at their synagogue at sundown to begin observing the holiday. I can’t think of a Christian equivalent that would cause a scheduling conflict.

Are u serious? Can't think of a Christian equivalent?
How about observant Christians go to church on Sunday mornings? (Protestant)

Would u not say the majority of Titans fans are Baptist or a closely related Protestant?
Why don’t they move the games to Saturday morning?

A strict reading commands all Christians (and Jews, since it is Old Testament)...
…to observe the Sabbath and rest. For Christians, it is Sunday. And yet, the NFL does not rest.
Now if the NFL chooses to move the time of this game, I would support that, but the idea that these things NEVER occur for other religions is a falacy.

come on man
I never said that they ‘never occur for other religions’, and pretty much the only Christians left in the mainstream who are that strict about Sunday are porbably busy running Chick-fil-a.
I was just saying that mainstream christians don’t run into this problem, and that’s why there’s never been any protest. I can’t think of another time the NFL would reasonably have a game that almost all moderate Christians were forbidden from seeing as a matter of scripture…

moderate Christians?
I thought everyone went to church on Sunday morning (that isn’t catholic or jehovah’s witness, speaking Christianity specifically)?
The point is – if they are moving the time for a game because of a game for religious practices, that’s wrong unless they do it for all.
What about moderate Jews? They may not care if its moved or not. You’re assuming all Jews practice this holiday.

Yeah they go to church on Sunday mornings
and they watch the game Sunday afternoon, or they go to the early service if that fits the schedule better. Thus, no conflict and no outcry to move the game.

August, answer this -
Are they not moving the game for religious practices of a specific group?
by pigskinpundits.com on Apr 17, 2009 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions
Then its wrong
I think this falls under the “Separation of Church and Beer/Wings” part of the Constitution

Geez, we need the season to hurry up and get here
Now we’ve resorted to arguing religion on an NFL blog. Oh! The humanity

About Sunday...
Everyone keeps mentioning Sunday mornings so I thought I would just do a little checking over the weekend. Just in my small town we have about a dozen churches (Bible Belt USA) within a 15 minute drive of my house and here are the start times for the morning services
8:00 AM – 1
9:00 AM – 2
10:00 AM – 4
11:00 AM – 3
12:00 PM – 1
And the last is a 7th Day Adventist so they have no Sunday service at all.
Some of the Church’s have both a Sunday morning and Sunday evening service and almost all of them also have a Wednesday service.
Now the point of all that is look at all the variance just in Christian practices on Sunday. The church congregations (or pastor) choose their start time. Practicing Jews can’t choose theirs when it comes to this Holiday. Either they are where they are supposed to be at Sundown or not at all.
The fact that so many people are arguing it actually shocks me. You would think that people would be happy that the NFL is actually taking something this serious into consideration for a large portion of their fans, but instead we see a lot of people getting upset because it’s “special treatment for one group.” The way I look at it is, as long as the NFL isn’t taking something away from you because you are Christian why should you be upset because they are doing something nice for Jews?
When all else fails… find a church like mine. Services end around noon and we have a big screen display set up in the back for use during bible school and certain lessons. During football season after services are over the Pastor fires it up, tunes into football and orders Pizza.
What religious sect practices during Thanksgiving?
Hey, when you have the stereo and TV on, how do you change the volume on the stereo?
"If you have the stereo on..." Why do you have the stereo on while you're watching TV?
'Cause I like to party.

Thanksgiving is the best holiday ever, only slightly beating the 4th of July.
As you can tell I’m a big fan of feasts, football and explosions.

Was it not freakin' awesome to plop the platter down on the tray in front of the TV and watch the Titans beatdown the Lions?
Freakin’ awesome.
Official MCM Hater!
I was driving home to Memphis for Thanksgiving during that game
Had to catch most of the first half on the radio, but damn if I wasn’t yelling and jumping up and down as much as I could with those two TD runs from the line of scrimmage
now with less meyton panning.

I have pretty much convinced myself
that the Titans first round pick is going to be a player that we have not even mentioned on this site. Someone totally random.

lendale white
let’s get what we can out of him this year, let some other stupid franchise pay him triple what they will get back on the field, and avoid the prima donna factory also known as USC in the future. resolved? resolved.

I completely agree with you
With Philip Merling and Devon Thomas still on the board last year who wouldve thought that we would draft chris Johnson?
Cortland Finnegan is a beast
This rescheduling is great news for me...
If the NFL gives in that means one less 3PM game for the Titans.
Anyway don’t you guys think this year’s draft prospects is the worst in the last few years. I mean the top prospects’ talent are questionable such that you read that some teams want to trade their picks. Also, a couple of them have red flags on their attitude and personality. I’m so glad we don’t have to pay a lot for our 30th pick.
Go Titans!
the top of this draft is a little disappointing
but from pick 10 until about 64 there are a slew of players who could end up being really good. You’re right though, this is a very good year to be sitting at 30 because we can get value (even with some question marks) without a massive financial investment.
