Your Last Day
I am totally swaggerjacking the Wake Up Zone on 104.5 here, but this topic could prove to provide some interesting discussion. The passing of Harry Kalas yesterday prompted them to pose these two questions; Which announcer would you want to call the last game you ever listened to, and if you could pick a sporting event and venue to be at when you pass, which one would it be?
I will start. I didn't listen to that many game growing up, so I don't have some announcer that I remember from my childhood. My announcer would be Mike Keith calling a Titans game. His call of the Music City Miracle still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.
My sporting event and venue would be Wrigley Field watching a Cubs game. There is no great sporting venue in the world.

Most versatile announcer I’ve ever listened to. He’s on 1300 the zone in Austin.
Cotton Bowl, Texas-OU game, 50 yard line on the Texas side.
john ward @ neyland
calling tennessee’s victory in the championship game of the first ever 16 team NCAA football tournament over alabama.
The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.
with earlier round victories
over Notre Dame, Michigan, and Florida.

Are we to assume this is a mid-September or earlier Cubs game? I mean I’m guessing you want to see them win…
/goes back to watching the Astros get almost no-hit by the Pirates

It would be either:
a) Super Bowl played (and won) by the Titans
or
b) The world cup Final with the brazilian team winning once again!!!
(for those of you who dont know:
- Brazil is 5 time world champion
- the world cup is played only once every 4 years
- no other countries have won it this many times (second is Italy with four)
- best USA result: 3rd place if Im not mistaken
- soccer is the most popular sport in the world, and Brazil is the greatest country playing it!)
Sorry guys, I love football, but when it comes to World Cup Soccer, there is nothing compared to it!!!!!
(ok, regular soccer i kinda boring)

I'll agree
that Brazil is the best when you look at the big picture in World Cup Soccer… but I cheer for Germany every year. My wife is German and her family introduced me to soccer so every time the World Cup rolls around I will don my Germany jersey and cheer every round until they are put out.
Other than that yeah, a Super Bowl with the Titans leading (and going on to win) but since we are dreaming… I would check out during the half time show while on stage with somebody like Seether or Three Days Grace.

My sporting event
would be going to the preds game on April 3, 2008 again. That was the best atmosphere ever. Here’s a video of it. Good times. Good times.

vin scully announcing
titans winning the superbowl or vandy winning bball or football.
i don’t really have a football or basketball venue i love so i’ll go super fantasyland and pick wrigley, petco, or pacbell.
Mike Keith announces a Super Bowl win for the Titans (obviously)
or Tim McCarver having a painful but non-lethal heart attack as Lance Berkman hits a walk-off homerun that wins the WS for the Astros.

As long as we are dreaming
i would have to go back to one of the saddest days of my life as a sports fan. The 2001 Daytona 500, only this time Darrell Waltrip calls a Dale Sr. win. As far as the venue, I would love to go back to Chicago during the days of #23.
