With the 18th Pick in the 2009 MCM Mock Draft....
....the Chicago Bears (represented by me) select....
Matthew Stafford, QB, Georgia
This is another funny draft for the quarterbacks involved. I have a feeling that one quarterback is going to be in a free fall on draft day, but it will probably be Sanchez and not Stafford.
The line on Stafford, and if you have watched any Georgia game in the past 3 years you have heard it, is that he has an NFL arm. Unfortunatelfy for Stafford and whatever team picks him, he doesn't have an NFL brain. I know he will go in the top 10 in the draft, but I am not sold on him as an NFL QB at all.
That being said, if he were to fall to the Bears at 18 they would be thrilled to get him. They can't be thrilled with the prospects of another season of looking at The Neck Beard and Sexy Rexy under center.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the clock..

No NFL brain?
Didn’t he score like a 35 on the wonderlic? Isn’t that what NFL Qbs like he and Vince Young are judged by?

Maybe I should have said
no NFL brain when it comes to the throws he chooses to make in games.

I don't think he will ever be a great NFL QB either
But I would be shocked if he dropped out of the top ten. He doesn’t make smart throws in game situations and I don’t think he will be able to adjust to the speed of the NFL, with Sanchez having more upside.

Arm
He has amazing arm strength and like many “gunslinger” mentality QBs—-he tries to push the issue and thread the needle a little too often. As always, QB are hard to judge, but I’d be shocked to see him drop this far——then again, NFL teams with very high draft picks, may be finally realizing to not use valuable draft picks on a risky position-QB.

Why would the Bears want to draft Stafford? Orton was playing great up until he hurt his ankle which he came back from too early and it hindered his play. The Bears don’t need a QB, they needs some receivers.
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.
Oh and I write words and stuff for Stampede Blue.
