Chris Canty Signs with the New York Giants

Well the Titans will never get a shot to talk to Chris Canty because he has signed a 6-year $42 million deal with the New York Giants.  The deal includes $17.25 million in guaranteed money according to Adam Schefter.

I am still of the belief that after scheduling his visit here the Titans and his agent had some initial talks and Canty decided that it wasn't even worth his time to fly here.  There was some talk that he only wanted to play in a 3-4 but signing with the Giants proves there was nothing to that.

As much as I love Tony Brown's dance moves and the promise shown by Jason Jones, I still believe that the Titans have to add another proven guy to the rotation before the season opens.

Danno

just bought his 1st Giant Jersey… Now if they can just get Coles or Housh to come in there they are good to go.

I certainly have not bought a Chris Canty jersey.

Those things are $80, and he’s not even gonna start.

That sucks

I really hoped we could work a deal with him…

What about Rocky Bernard the DT from the Seahawks though? He looks like he would be a good fit for us, anyone know if he’s visiting anywhere?

And damn that Giants line is going to be impressive this year….

1st days of free agency

the Titans post Reinfeldt pattern: do nothing, don’t go after any of the top guys on the market at all. Once the initial wave is done, then they’ll start looking at guys. Not saying I like it, it’s just what they do.

The Titans are happy with being a

2nd tier team. If they can make a run at the playoffs with it they are happy.

I know it's frustrating but...

Every year we get angry during the offseason, and last year we were 13-3. That’s not a 2nd tier team. We were the best team in the league. I don’t agree with everything the front office does, but I think the cap purge when we lost the Freak, Rolle, Mason, Etc made them decide to build for consistency instead of selling out one year and then having to cut solid players.

That means not overpaying for free agents and building through the draft.

...

The best team in the league is the team that wins the superbowl.Last I checked, that team was name The Steelers. And how many years have we been “building through the draft”? That philosophy is only a peace of the puzzle…The other peace is signing talent through free agency.Do you think all the players on The Steelers were drafted by them? And how did Eli Manning look this year, without the 6’5 wideout they sign away from The Steelers?

The Titans way of business is the way of a team who want to be SuperBowl contenders, but not Superbowl winners…And I’m getting sick of it.

I know...

Guess I’m just still learning to deal with it.

What we do is right

It’s not flashy but it is right. We are doing it the way you build dynasty’s, where you are consistently in it every year.

The Pats

are a dynasty type… I see them signing players like Adalious Thomas amongst others, making trades for guys like Randy Moss… I don’t see us doing any of the sort.

by Big Bad Bulluck on Mar 1, 2009 10:14 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Randy Moss has never won a Super Bowl

Adalius Thomas never won a Super Bowl.

They won through the draft. I’m glad we’re not like the Redskins, signing big free agents every year just doesn’t work.

But they've been there

and they get further than we do just about every year… You can’t be a dynasty without making Super Bowls. We aren’t consistently in it every year.

One thing I like about our FO...

we are good at finding good players under the radar. Dave Ball, Tony Brown..etc.

Just to compare, Chris Canty averages about 35 tackles and 3 sacks in his career. Tony Brown averages 50 tackles and 4 sacks since he started. And Dave Ball, last year, who only started in 3 games and played for 15, did 28 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT, and 1 TD.

The above stats tells me why we did not go after Chris Canty aggressively.

Go Titans!

I get where you're coming from BBB

but our approach is a more feasible one.

Think of it this way if your in a strip club and you blow all your money on the hottest girl in there, yes you may have the hottest girl but you have only one. Meanwhile I’ve waited a little while and gotten three decent looking girls for the same price that you got that one hot girl.

Moral of the story, Titans are PIMPS and we’re just looking for the right priced hoes in free agency.

Sorry if that was a little crude lol
