Perfect Contract compromise for Albert and Titans
I have the perfect comprimise for Albert Haynesworth and the Tennessee Titans for a long term contract:
6 years - 78 million - 36 million in gaurantees
Year 1 - 20 million signing bonus and 1 million salary
Year 2 - 8 million roster bonus and 2 million salary (bonus is gauranteed if Haynesworth plays in 10 games during year 1)
Year 3 - 8 million roster bonus and 2 million salary (bonus is gauranteed if Haynesworth plays in 1 game during year 2)
Year 4 - 10 million salary
Year 5 - 12 million salary
Year 6 - 15 million salary
Advantages for Albert: This contract is larger than Jared Allen's last year and makes him the highest paid defensive lineman in the NFL
Advantages for the Titans: Albert stays a Titan, the gaurantees are spread out and they can save money on this deal if incentives aren't hit

Wow
thats alot of freakin’ money! But I totally agree, that would absolutely be a great contract for both sides.

How does
the signing bonus count against cap? Would he count 21 million against the cap in the first year, or is the signing bonus distributed over the length of the contract (20/6 = 3 mill or so additional per year?).
if it’s distributed, this looks pretty heavily back-loaded.
How was Allen’s deal structured?
This stuff is interesting. Obscene amounts of money, but interesting.

Bonuses
Signing bonuses are divided over the first 3 years (they used to be divided over the length of the contract but that changed last year or the year before). I think roster bonuses hit the year they are given. With the Titans cap space I think they should eat the whole 20 million the first year and set themselves up for the future.

Titans fans worst nightmare
Did you guys see the video of Albert Haynesworth holding a Colts helmet and talking about how great it would be to play with Peyton Manning? It was on NFL Live.
Yikes. As a Texans fan, it scares me too.

The Colts don't have the cap room
to sign him (at least that is my prayer).

Not that it matters, but no Colts fan I’ve seen wants that loser in the Colts roster anyways.
This line will remain in my signature until the Colts draft Rashad Jennings in 2009.

bullshit
you would complain for 2 seconds and realize, “wow, he is the best defender on our team, for once our puny d-line isn’t full of ladies who can’t stop the run”

yeah, I saw the part where he laughed and tossed the helmet as well.
Where I was raised 2 + 2 = 3rd and 6.

That's good to know
because I just read the article where Peyton Manning was wishing he’s come to Indy also. Manning said he’d like to either see Albert come to Indy or move to the NFC. He’s got the respect of his peers, that’s for sure

I don't think this contract would get it done.
Albert wants MORE.

Honestly
I like the idea of taking 21 mill cap hit this next year then it significantly shrinks the next few years. We are so far under the cap this year I think we could take the hit for one year, then we’d have lots of room for maneuverability for years to come. I don’t know if this would get it done, but if it did, I like the idea.
