Brandon Jones Signs with the San Francisco 49ers
Hot of the press, wide receiver Brandon Jones has just signed with the San Francisco 49ers.
The contract is worth $16.5 million, including $5.4 million guaranteed.
Good luck to him, but I hope this opens the eyes of the management and it makes them realize that we really need a free agent receiver. Nate Washington, in Nashville tomorrow, would be a start.
Hope things pick up for us and we sign someone good.

Brandon Jones is just another 3rd round WR pick that hasn’t panned out. Now we hope for Hawkins to turn into something. Is the the problem the refusal to draft WRs in the 1st and 2nd round, at WR coach, or both?

It's the talent evaluation and the talent
We took 3 WRs in the 05 draft, now we can fault them for 3 bad picks, but looking at that WR class as a whole there are hardly any legitimate NFL talents, and that’s when picking for needs really bites you in the ass. In fact, out of the 31 WRs drafted, only Braylon Edwards and Roddy White have made the Pro Bowl from that class.
06 isn’t much better – only decent WRs are Colston (7th round), Santonio Holmes (who only this year has been good) , Greg Jennings and Brandon Marshall
Looking at this dearth of talent, it seems like its a wiser move to build WR through free agency and trades rather than gambling on rooks. Around the league there are very few elite receivers, so let’s not kill the upper brass for its inability to find a top-notch guy. I agree that it’s very frustrating, but at least they make up for it with great talent evaluation in other areas

I liked him
I thought he made some tough catches over the middle last. Underachiever? Yes. But he was starting to come around.
Good luck in San Fran with that QB situation.

I thought he improved a lot
In the last half of this past season. Sorry to see him go, but hopefully this will get the Titans off their but as far as bringing in some WR talent goes.

He was okay, but he's imminently replaceable. No big loss there.

Brandon Jones
made the best plays out of any of our receivers last year. He’s a good receiver, and now that we have finally “developed” him, they are letting him walk.
MR is a schmuck.

Even if that's true, it ain't sayin' much.

Even so....
It’s obvious that they aren’t going to make a splash in free agency. Letting the second best receiver on the team walk is a mistake. I’m not completely convinced that Nate Washington and Devery Henderson are upgrades, either. And, those are the only two worthwhile receivers I see us making a run at.

I'd like to see L. Coles in two-toned blue, but apparently that's not gonna happen.
