Not good news...

I felt like BJ was finally starting to hit is stride. I hope the Titans will do what it takes to keep him around.

Nope.

He’s replaceable. In fact, he is imminently replaceable. He just happened to be on a team where the WR talent was TERRIBLE, which has made his inconsistent play look much better than it actually is.

The Titans need to UPGRADE at Wide Receiver. B. Jones was not and was never going to be an upgrade. He’s been on the roster for years, and he’s only ever produced in spot situations and with no regularity whatsoever. In fact, his replacement is already on the team—Lavelle Hawkins.

I agree with Danno

If we pick up a WR in Free Agency then that guy (Nate Washington) can be #2 and then the Hawk can fly in the slot.

I also think

Brandon Jones can be a solid 2, very good 3 at worst… Anyone remember what a rookie yr this dude was having before his injury? I thought this year he looked as though he was finally at full speed with full burst and confidence in himself again. I really want him back, last year I hated this guy, but looking at the big picture I think it was all about the injury.

Even more… If we sign Brandon Jones that lessens the chances we would re-sign Mcdoodoo, and that would be good.

by Big Bad Bulluck on Feb 27, 2009 3:34 PM CST up reply actions

Well, I believe that Brandon Jones was better than Justin McSuckins

And you believe Lavelle Hawkins is better than Brandon Jones.

But McSuckins got all the snaps and Hawkins never saw the field.

These guys are killing me.

I agree that Jones was better than McCariens.

I also believe—firmly—that McCariens is BY FAR the worst WR in the NFL.

I don’t know if The Hawk was better than B. Jones last year, but I think that Jones has had enough time, and that last year was as good as he’s ever going to be. That said, The Hawk was probably ALMOST as good a B. Jones last year, which means that he has imminently more upside. And Jones was hit-or-miss even last year.

The Hawk may not always run the routes right, but he at least reliably catches the damned ball. Jones couldn’t or wouldn’t always do that.

Hawkins was a rookie too.

It takes years to groom a WR in the NFL, Jones has had that time and hasn’t proved himself. Lavelle shows a lot of promise and still needs a few years under his belt. Im alright with cutting ties and moving on.

now with less meyton panning.

I still don't understand

why they didn’t put Hawk on the field more. They want to use the knowing the offense deal. That’s fine, but you could put him in on the plays he knows. I would rather have Hawkins out there with Collins having to walk him to where he is supposed to line up and whisper his route in his ear than McSuckins.

I wouldnt mind seeing him on returns more

but Carr and CJ are fine by me too.

seems to me like it was a matter of principle

i bet if everyone knew hawk was trying his absolute hardest to learn the plays but still having trouble, they would have been more likely to stick him in spot duty. however, he was probably being a slacker and heimerdinger wasn’t having it and wanted him to get his head right and his priorities straight b4 letting him on the field. make him earn it, that kind of thing.

That's what I've heard...

Hawkins doesn’t like to practice.

by SuperHorn on Feb 27, 2009 12:12 PM CST up reply actions

Here.

Rookie receiver Lavelle Hawkins caught just seven passes for 68 yards. Needless to say, the Titans could’ve used a lot more production from the fourth-round pick. So what needs to change? Hawkins needs to get serious and focus a little more. He’s a popular guy with teammates, but the Hawk isn’t going to take flight if he keeps making mistakes in practice.

that's why i haven't been more critical of him not playing

if he is going to be a punk like that he can go stand in the corner for all i care.

Yup.

Say what you want about learning, etc. But even as a rookie, if you can’t find a way to get on the field with this receiving core, chances are you aren’t destined to have a spectacular NFL career.

Well said. Probably just jealous CJ got all the rookie cred.

I do wish the article expanded a bit more on that though : /

with jones and mccareins going...

expect the hawk to be 3rd in the depth chart. with nate and gage as the starters.

I can never forgive him for that drop in the first Indianapolis game in the 2007

he blew that game and proved to me that he would choke in the clutch. I was so mad a puched the way and fractured my pinky lol

by Titansfan_559 on Feb 27, 2009 8:09 PM CST reply actions

I was so pissed

about that drop as well… LoL I still remember thinking what good are those Bright/Powder/shiny Blue gloves.

But I have forgiven him for that. Of course its easier for me cuz I didn’t go through any pain, or have to spackle any walls or anything.

Question… What can you do or does the doctor do for a broken pinky? I think I broke mine playing flag football. Still haven’t bothered to look into that.

by Big Bad Bulluck on Feb 27, 2009 10:07 PM CST up reply actions

They can't really freakin do anything for it

Just give it a kind of soft cast an let the stupid thing heal. It was pretty embarrassing telling him how I did it though lol

by Titansfan_559 on Feb 27, 2009 11:44 PM CST reply actions

I would imagine...

And that’s one of the things I heard from people when I said I was gonna go get it checked out… Nothing they can do, waste of time.

While pinkies are useless, they can be pretty painful.
