Franchise Tag
Does someone mind clearing up what exactly a franchise tag entails. Is it considered a liability for the player being franchised? We gave it to fat Al last year but I never fully understood what it meant.
Also, the press release mentioned giving it to Rob "My Bironas" Bironas. What's the thinking there?
Thanks much.

it means
the player is offered a 1 year deal where he makes at least the average of the top 5 paid players at his position. if a team makes him exclusive, then there is no way the guy can leave for another team. he either signs it or he doesn’t play in the nfl. if they say non-exclusive, a player may negotiate with other teams once the original team makes him the qualifying offer. if he strikes a deal with another team, the original team can either match it and keep the player anyway, or let him go and receive 2 1st round picks for him.
it’s bad for a team because it is all guaranteed and can’t be spread around for cap purposes like a signing bonus on a multi year deal. it’s bad for a player because it gives them no job security if they suffer a really bad injury. they only have a one year contract and could be SOL if the injury is career threatening.

I'd rather franchise a Mickey D's than a kicker. You must be out of your mind.
The PAIN TRAIN is comin baby!
yeah, I think Scaife gets the tag -
Anyone think differently – who do you think gets the franchise tag?

Not really, but neither is Brandon Jacobs -
Our only options are Bironas, & Collins. I’m not even sure that we should franchise Collins -
From Fanhouse -
Mike Reinfeldt told the Tennessean that the Titans are considering franchising either Scaife or Bironas. The franchise tag for either of them would not be that expensive—only $4.46 million for Scaife or $2.48 million for Bironas. In comparison, it would cost $14.65 million to franchise Collins.

Yeah,
There is no shot they franchise Collins.

oh hells no on franchising Collins...
$4.4 mill for Scaife is too much as well, but $2.48 mill for Rob is still a steal.
Where I was raised 2 + 2 = 3rd and 6.
Yup.
Do whatever it takes to keep Bironas. For a team that relies heavily on the run game, field position, and defense, a good kicker is a must.
Speaking of
a team that relies heavily on the run game, field position, and defense, what about going after Shane Lechler?

That would be a great addition.
I’ll add that to my realistic off season hopes:
1. Re-sign Albert
2. Sign Devery Henderson
3. Sign Shane Lechler
Need to tag
Bironas…
No way Scaife deserves top 5 TE money.
Bironas on the other hand does.

I would love Devery Henderson
He could really stretch the field for us opposite of Justin Gage but on Sirius NFL Radio they were talking about the Saints being in serious contract talks with him so he might not be there..
BigW
you are a retard who knows nothing about football. If you had ever watched a titans game you would know how important Rob Bironas is to our team and he is definitely worth the tag.
Let's refrain from the personal insults
