Congress passes bill to force college football playoffs.
OK, well, techinically, it just prevents any game from being called the "national championship" unless it is played as the result of a playoff, technically the BCS could survive without a champion.
Still, even as someone who is not a BCS fan, I'm amazed that this is what our national legislators are working on this week,

Look I don't want to start a fire here......
but I am one of those types who doesn’t typically want Congress getting involved in everything.
However, this is a relevant isuue for Congress to tackle. Universities get taxpayer money, and tax exemptions. A particular group of these universities has colluded to make it essentially impossible for several other Universities to ever have a shot at the biggest money game. The have created a closed system that gives special BCS priveleges to colleges for, say, having the name “Notre Dame.”
The folks running the BCS admitted to Congress that their goal was not to offer a fair shot for all teams to comptete for a Championship or the big-money bowl games, but to represent what they saw as the “market” for football. I wonder how these same universities, which support things like Title IX, would respond to a demand that all University sports be subject to the “market.”
Congress needs to get involved because the BCS schools will never, of their own accord, change the system to allow for a playoff. I stand against the involvement of Congress 95% of the time, but not this time.
I only hope they have the spine to force a playoff system. I doubt it, though.
