Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Phils, Astros complete Roy Oswalt deal

(on Chris Johnson possible gaining 2,000 rushing yards)
"I’m going to do what’s best for this team. We’re going to try to win ballgames. If that means getting LenDale (White) more touches, which in I think we probably should have done last night in retrospect, that’s what it means. All those personal things are all well and good, but at this point we need to win the next game."

(on why Rod Hood hasn’t been active)
"Just numbers. As I’ve said the last few weeks, it’s been hard to get to 45."

(on Nick Harper’s performance)
"Nick just had one man-to-man thing that he stumbled on, but other than that I thought he played solid, solid run support. If anybody knows that offense, Nick does. I thought he played a good ball game."

what the hell is that supposed to mean?! “46”

by oilzwell on Dec 8, 2009 9:09 AM CST up reply actions

Hey oilzwell

Explain to some of our younger readers what “46” means.

Official MCM Hater!

Vince Young Is A Quarterback.

Retire #9!

Its a reference to the 46 defense we started running in 93’ when Buddy Ryan became defensive coordinator of the (then Oilers). Fisher became DC in 94’ and was basically running the same system but over the years we seem to have gotten away from it and seem to be running more zone cover 2 these days and less man to man. Hope that helps “46”

Heh.

“….Nick just had one man-to-man thing that he stumbled on,…”

Heh. Then your expectations of him must be really, really low if he only let you down once.

by Titan9 on Dec 7, 2009 7:28 PM CST reply actions

active roster for the game

somehow our leader in takeaways doesnt make the cut (i assumed this, but i dont hink anyone has more)

by mattd97 on Dec 7, 2009 8:06 PM CST up reply actions

Right, thanks.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

by Titan9 on Dec 7, 2009 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

Nick Harper......

If Nick Harper is so valuable in run support then put him at fucking linebacker and start Rod Hood…..damn…….frustrating

wow

he acknowledged that lendale might need more carries……

Numbers...

That argument, statement, whatever, is such a pile of coachspeak dog crap. They kept both Mouton and McCourty up right? How the hell does he not move ahead of these guys? He’s got the production, experience, chemistry, everything on them, except maybe b/c the rookies are “their guys,” thus lending even more to Fish’s delerious values of loyalty. Man this is infuriating!

by groovymountain on Dec 7, 2009 9:58 PM CST reply actions

What Fisher would tell you

is that it is because Mouton and McCourty play special teams. My guess is that they won’t give Hood a shot to do that because those guys have done it all year, and how can you really blame him with how good our special teams has been this season….

Need a napkin?

Your sarcasm is dripping all over the place. :)

I must say I’m a Fisher supporter, but in this I agree that he needs to see reason and at least keep Hood active so that when Harper blows it he can be switched out for at least a few plays…

by Antoniemey on Dec 8, 2009 9:07 AM CST up reply actions

Yeah and we see how good those two lemons have played. We got pinned down several times vs Arizona because those two idiots cant block downfield! “46”

Fisher

His new own Monday morning Quarterback… He’s and idiot

How can he not admit Harper Blows? Oh yeah, again he’s an idiot

by Big Bad Bulluck on Dec 7, 2009 9:58 PM CST reply actions

If only Fisher could see.

The reason the press keeps on asking questions about the performance of Nick Harper is because everyone else but Fisher and the coaching staff can see that Harper sucks. Period. You don’t see the press asking why Keith Bulluck played like he did…BECAUSE HE CAN ACTUALLY PLAY!

RE: If only Fisher could see

King Titan you’re right on the money and stole my thunder. Nick Harper has been burnt multiple times and is a complete liability in coverage! I guess Bud might have to order him to sit Harper and play Hood since he’s too goddamed stubborn to admit he’s playing bad. I have been a Fisher supporter over the last 15 yrs but Fisher has really let this team down with many bad decisions this season. Starting with the VY vs. Collins thing, the return game situation and ending with this harper controversy. I think he’s not gonna be coaching this team after this year. “46”

by oilzwell on Dec 8, 2009 9:08 AM CST up reply actions

i'm sick of fisher..

he is an okay coach. I know there are worse coaches out there but there are also much better ones.
He can post a good number with a good roster (which i think all coaches in NFL can do.) He doesn’t really make out team better.

Well spake, sir.

Fisher has done a great job this year of driving a Cadillac into a ditch.

This one's for you, #9.

and the shoe fits on the other foot

Who knows better than Peyton Manning how bad Nick Harper sucks?

by joshuaboone on Dec 8, 2009 12:02 AM CST reply actions

Obviously no one...

…because Manning threw at Harper literally all day long. They talked about Finnegan keeping R. Wayne in check, but that’s garbage. It was just that Manning is a smart guy, and he’s going to throw to the man that’s the most open every time, and EVERY TIME that man was whoever was being guarded by Harper.

FWIW

i saw fuller getting targeted a few times too. the garcon-harper matchup was cake for he colts. putting harper on young speedy guys is just wrong in every way.
