Colts 27 Titans 17 Quick Recap
And just like that we come crashing back down to earth. It's a funny final score because at first I don't feel like it was that close, but when I stop and think about all of the chances the Titans had I guess it was. There was just something about this game that made me never really feel the Titans had a chance to win it. Maybe it was because we had Nick Harper playing corner. I don't really know.
Anyway, discuss your postgame thoughts in the comments below. I will have a full recap a little later.
August and I will be doing MCM Radio tonight at 9 central. Click here to join in the fun.

We were outclassed
from top to bottom. Simple as that.
Pros: CJ as always and Britt is a diamond in the rough. This kid is nails.

It's all about turnovers.
We won the last three because we didn’t give up the ball. We missed too many opportunities. Our offense needs to be more consistent to beat a team like the Colts.

Now we need lots and lots of luck....
The Raiders beating Pittsburgh is a start!

At this point, I feel like we don't deserve the playoffs
We’d just get bounced in the 1st round.

Neither did the Cards last year.
Keep that in mind.

They're NFC.
None of them ever deserve the playoffs.

Waayyy too many miscues.
Credit the Colts, they played mistake free football. We did just the opposite.
Bad timing on the first fade to Nate on 3rd down that resulted in a field goal.
Nate’s (huge) drop.
Ahmard Hall’s fumble.
Miscommunication leading to an INT between Vince and Britt.
False start on the 1.
Incomplete fade route in the endzone to Britt on 4th down.
On top of all that, it’s difficult to win football games when your defense doesn’t force at least one turnover. The D played well, but an INT or a fumble would have helped.
If any of those end up differently (especially the miscues in the red zone), this might have been a different ball game. You can’t win against possibly the best team in football with that many mistakes.

First and Goal at the One
That whole sequence was a debacle: timeout, fumble, holding penalty, failed 4th down attempt.
I hate the fade pass, especially on 4th down.

Right.
And, my mistake, holding on the 1…not false start. Ugh…..what a blunder. After the blunder, if I’m Fisher, I call sneak 3 more times.

I know CJs the man
But when we get down within 5 we need to run Lendale like we did last year.

Superhorn is right...
It was mistakes and poor execution that cost us this game .. not coaching. Although, I don’t know how much I agree with the D plaing well. If nothing else they had way too many missed tackles .. well, just poor tackling in general.

We are one game better than the Raiders :S

As I said in the other thread, Colts D is very good.
So far, they are the ONLY team to hold CJ in check in a game that was actually competitive. Beyond that, those goal-line stands were impressive. That said… why not run LDW with 4-and-goal from the 2?

Obviousness, I'm guessing...
Last year LDW was on the field for passing and running plays, but this year primarily only running. So, putting him out there just would be obvious about what you were going to do. At least with CJ they know to expect multiple different things. Again, I’m just guessing, lol. I wanted them to give the big guy a shot at it.

Every time LenDale goes in
The entirety of each team’s 53 man roster, every coach, and every even somewhat sober fan attending the game that day knows exactly what’s going to happen.
And what’s great about LenDale is that DESPITE that, he can still rattle off 5 or 6.
So 4th and goal from the 2? Yup, LDW every single time.
I’d be interested to know what the percentage is on that play with LenDale. I’d bet it’s pretty damned high, and it’s starting to seem as though the coaching staff has something against LenDale. I feel more and more like he’s not going to be around next year, which is unfortunate.
by TNTitans on Dec 6, 2009 7:49 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
So they can't run play-action to LDW?
Is it illegal?

Dinger's playcalling in the redzone was horrible.
Nick Harper doesn’t deserve a starting spot on anybody’s roster at this point.
The Colts are a good team, but I just don’t see how they’re still undefeated at this point. Why do teams just seem to implode against them? Granted, the Colts defense is doing a lot to stop other teams, but it seems like they’ve been getting all of the bounces this year as well.

What bounces went the Colts way today?
I’m not trying to be confrontational, just genuinely curious if you were referring to anything today? Turnovers and Red Zone Efficiency were the keys today.
And I agree with the Red Zone play calling. I am very thankful that Heimerdinger didn’t get the ball in Johnson’s hands on either 4th down miss. Made it that much easier for the Colts.

I consider the personal foul call against Brown..
..a bounce that went their way. It hadn’t been flagged until Mr. Manning lobbied for it. But, that may just be the way I saw it.

No, that should be called...
and he should be fined. That was just dumb. However, I don’t see how the colts didn’t get 15 the next play when they ripped his helmet off.

I agree that the eye gouge should be called, but..
..the shove to the ground that he retaliated on was late, and that shouldve been called, too. And like you said, the next play should’ve been called as well.

You guys have a great redzone defense this year...
But our 2 failed conversions inside the 5 had nothing to do with the colts defense. That was all play calling and horrendous execution. The dropped 65-yard TD pass had nothing to do with the colts defense. The first play of the game is a pick if Harper’s paying attention.
Again, I’m not trying to take away from the Colts season, but this kind of stuff seems to be happening a lot this year (both Texans games, the Pats game, Ravens game, Jags game). I understand that teams will implode every now and then, but this has just been a bizarre year.

Good teams find ways to win games
Much like the Titans had done over the previous 5 games.
All 4 of those other teams have blown late leads in other games separate from the Colts game. I mean, the Texans make new, interesting ways to lose each week, as do the Ravens. The Colts have just taken advantage of those opportunities.

That's true and the Colts are a good team.
Can’t blame them for taking advantage of the chances. It just seems that it’s happening a lot more than normal.
It’s freaking amazing what they’ve been able to do with all of the injuries, coaching changes, etc. this year.

What bounces went the Colts way
Also not trying to be confrontational, but how about the tipped pass that Garçon pulled down?
by TNTitans on Dec 6, 2009 7:50 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Sure, that counts
But it was the very first play of the game. There was still 59:45 left in the game at that point, so the impact it had was pretty minimal.
It certainly was a nice bounce.

They implode because...
The defense can never get rid of the images of all those Peyton Manning commercials running through their heads.
Either that or the NFL is like the WWE…

It's simple, really
Turnovers and missed conversion opportunities.
Hopefully just a moot point since Denver, Miami, Jacksonville and the Jets all won this week (we did get the Pittsburgh upset but really needed all five to lose with us winning). Figure Denver is in, and even if we won out, most of the other teams have the tiebreaker on us.
Makes those couple of close early season special teams losses really sting, though.

why why why
why do you run a fade pass on 4th down? that’s a play you run on 1st or 2nd down. it has such a low success rate. I just cant stand it when coaches make that call

I think....
towards the end of the play when Peyton had already gone down, he got pushed in the back by the lineman. Looked legitimate, but Brown didn’t really have to flip his shit. Especially at that point in the game where it put the Colts in field goal range.

the one thing that pisses me off about this game is tony brown
how do you lose your cool like that? the moment your team finally gets some rhythm going into the half, you single handedly hand them three points. just dumb.

Taking something from the season
A few weeks now for Vince to show he’s definitely our future QB. Strong passing performances needed, getting Britt some more completions and Cook some experience.
While also making sure CJ gets past 2000 yds.

Titans vs.Titans
Lets see where to start, Nick Harper has to go Period! The constantly burned washed-up loser who starts in place of a much more talented Rod Hood. One of Fishers glaring bad judgements that once again comes back to haunt this team. Ahmad hall who continues to pick the worst possible moments to fumble. Nate Washington who continuesly drops Young’s perfectly thrown bombs. What is that now like 4 or 5 games in a row where he’s done this. Kevin Mawae’s horrendous bad snaps also continue to curse the Titans. Hey Kevin your supposed to be a probowl caliber center start acting like it schmuck. And finally what are these terrible play calls in the redzone area?! Hey Dinger ever heard of ****ing play-action?! Despite all that we still had so many chances to win this game. Titans wont ever win until they stop beating themselves. “46”

Not over yet
A lot has to happen. But was it 2006? The playoff picture was bleak but the last few weeks all the opponents ahead of them lost. If they had won the last game they were in.
At 8-4 let’s concede a spot to the Broncos.
If we run the table and end up 9-7 we need:
Jags 7-5 They need to go 1-3 in last 4 and have a tough schedule ahead.
Ravens 6-5 They need to lose to the Packers, then go 2-2 the rest of the way
Pitt 6-6 Need to lose two more games
NYJ 6-6 Need to lose two more games
Mia 6-6 If we beat them and run table, we pass them
We need help for sure it’s not impossible. We could squeak in or at least have playoff like games in the last 2 weeks.

Something about this team and pressure?
Last years playoff against the Ravens- a lot of mistakes.
Opening day against Pitt the same thing.
Last year’s 10 in a row came with no pressure, most thought they weren’t even playoff material.
Again the 5 in a row this year? Came with the pressure lifted.
Then finally an important game again—-cue a slew of miscues.
Right before kickoff they showed a close-up of Fisher who seemed to take a nervous breath. Maybe he and the team want this TOO much?
The pressure is off again they will win the next 3 you can bet the house and own your block. If games become important again, we’ll just have to hope they can keep it together this time. At least make your opponent beat you at your best.
