VY's Future

I know that we are just a little more than half way through the season but Lets look forward to the offseason. Vince is in line to get some extreme cash but he's not the only one: Kieth Bulluck, Lendale White, Bo Scaife, KVB, and Crumpler among others. Assuming we keep 2 of those players we will still be low on cap space in dealing with free agency and the draft. So lets say Vince keeps up his streak of good play should we try to renegotiate his contract to loosen up some more cash or should we not risk anything and accept the current contract and not risk a dispute?

I vote renegotiate

VY already mentioned he was willing to do this earlier this season. I would approach it from an incentives standpoint I think. lower the guaranteed money since he has only played at this level consistently for half the season and let the incentives push him to continue or improve upon his current level of play.

Vince was also in a different position earlier in the season.

If he keeps playing like he is now, he ain’t renegotiating, nor should he.

If vince stays consistent

we win….right now his qb rating is at 90…which ranks him at 13th among starters. It would b higher if they didnt lump in the New England game

..and he is winning… he is what we want him to be…what esle do we want? go VY!!.

Incentives

Good point bullrider73. Incentives have had a good track record in the past that seems to be the way to go if we renoegotiate.

What about...

…the talks of an uncapped year next year? If they decide to go uncapped next year I believe that Ed renegotiate everyones contract , including vy. I don’t want to see the uncapped because you would then begin to have unproportional teams like the Yankees with all if the great players they have all at once. That makes one juggernaught team…kind if like an older madden when u would drop all of the other teams good players and sign them or have a fantasy draft.

I don't know, Nate

The prospect of an uncapped year both excites and scares me. The bottom line about VY is that he is due a big bounus THIS YEAR and I’m afraid that if we don’t renegotiate our ability to do much of anything in the free agent market (if we do anything at all) will be significantly derailed.

without a cap

no one knows what’s going to happen, and i hope we don’t find out. i still say that if the cap stands a renegotiation is a must. even though vince has looked very impressive in 5 games, his cap number for next year will put him up with manning and brady and no one else. that’s just not right. instead of the 14 mil cap hit, the titans should look to get it down somewhere in the 8-10 range. hopefully vince will understand why this has to happen and it wont be a big problem getting a new contract.

Disagree.

When they signed that contract, the stipulation wasn’t that he had to be a top 3 quarterback to get that money. They knew what they were getting into, and certainly they also understood that he was a project. Right now, he’s playing like a top 10 QB. I can guarantee that if they knew that Vince would have been playing at this level when they initially negotiated the contract, they still would have executed it.

If he continues to play at this level, he’s got them by the balls, because what are they going to do, roll the dice on another draft pick who they will still have to pay a large contract, even if it is a little smaller? Start Kerry Collins? If Bud can make some sort of a reasonable argument as to why he should lower his contract like to clear some cap room for Bulluck, then maybe it happens. But, Bud is cheap. They’re not going to push the cap limits (if there is one) anyways, so I think that argument will largely irrelevant.

This is a brutal sport. Everyone is in awe of what these players make, but you need to remember that the time period is so short. He needs to capitalize while he can.

I voted B.

I think we found our franchise QB!

by titansfan4ever on Dec 4, 2009 3:22 PM CST reply actions

The correct answer is D

Wait until the end of the season to see how Vince played in all ten of his 2009 starts. But, if he does play the next five the way he played the last five, then I think you got to “pay the man.”

I am not voting until

we get the correct option in there- Vunce Young.
