Sunday NFL Open Games Thread

Sorry for the light posting following Friday night's game.  Part of it has been due to family Christmas obligations, and part of it has been lack of desire after the embarrasing way our season ended.  Things will go back to normal tomorrow.

Use this thread to discuss today's games.  I will adopt a team to root for at some point in the postseason, but I am not sure who it will be.  Let me know if you have picked one, or if you are totally against doing that.  One thing we can all agree on is cheering against the Ravens.

Here's to all of those teams that we needed to lose

I’m rooting for them all to win.

Ravens to win
Broncos to win

That way we wouldn’t have made the playoffs anyway!!!!

Ryan Grant is killing Seattle. What can CJ do?

From the look of today, CJ still might have a shot at the record.

Im pulling for the Saints. And yall might disagree but I say Ravens for the AFC…I hate every other team in the AFC more and still have a thing for Mason

Maybe we can get a poll and whoever wins the site can adopt

if we can’t get it done, it’d be nice to see a team honor him. even if it is the Ravens.

On a brighter note today.....

The Ravens and Steelers are both well positioned to miss the playoffs, and the Jags and Texans are positioned to finish ahead of us and get NOTHING for it in return.

The only true peace will come if next week plays out so that the Chargers loss winds up meaning nothing.

I truly hope we are active in Free Agency this offseason, as we have many needs and fewer picks. At the very least, we have to get a quality #2 CB, secure a starting Center if Mawae is done, and get DL and WR help.

Am I the only fan who’d actually happily tank next week’s game at Seattle in exchange for seeing CJ get 60 touches?

Vince is the most valuable player to this team

It’s pretty obvious CJ gets his yards, but how Vince plays has had the most impact on how this team plays

by Big Bad Bulluck on Dec 27, 2009 10:38 PM CST up reply actions

vince could easily be replaced/ improved upon

there is no other cj. that’s just crazy talk.

The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.

by hal41605 on Dec 27, 2009 10:44 PM CST up reply actions

CJ was playing when we went 0-6

Vince wasn’t. Seems pretty clear who we needed to win. (We need both actually)

I understand your point. CJ is a rare talent but we needed Vince to actually win ballgames. Having Vince in the game makes our offense go and makes CJ even more dangerous.

I disagree that he can be easily replaced and/or improved upon.

by Titan9 on Dec 28, 2009 8:44 AM CST up reply actions

"easily" was the wrong word.

i mean there are a lot more qbs out there that could lead this offense effectively than there are running backs (zero) that do what cj does. fortunately we never saw what this team looks like with out cj, but i guaran-damn-tee that it would have been ugly as hell. cj wasn’t getting near the kind of focus during 0-6 as he did during 7-2 because dinger had lost his mind and we weren’t being a run first team. only after kerry got canned did the offense go back to its old identity, pounging the rock on the ground and cj2k took off.

we all know superhorn was dead on the money about vince making things better for cj. well, im here to tell you it goes both ways, we just haven’t seen it yet, and hopefully we never will. there is nothing in football that makes it easier on a QB than a potent run game. our entire offense is based on what cj brings to the table, ergo he is our MVP, and it’s not even close.

The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.

by hal41605 on Dec 28, 2009 10:33 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not going to have a VY vs CJ debate.

That’s just dumb but when Vince was out our offense sucked. Bad. We saw that when Kerry went in to spell him.
I just think the original comment and point from Big Bad Bulluck was that we needed Vince this year more than anyone to pull out of the downward spiral we were in. Did we also need CJ a great deal? 100%. Absolutely.
And again, I have to disagree that there are lot more QBs out there that could replace Vince and be successful. Vince is a rare talent himself.

by Titan9 on Dec 28, 2009 11:39 AM CST up reply actions

I'm not saying Vince is a better player

by any means… But VY has more impact on whether or not we win or lose… VY plays like shit like he did Christmas we lose, even though CJ had a field day. VY plays well we win. That’s all there is to it. Look at every team bro, the teams with the good QB’s win the teams with shitty QB’s lose, at least that’s what I see now in the NFL today

by Big Bad Bulluck on Dec 28, 2009 4:39 PM CST up reply actions

You can still "try" to win....

….by giving the potential MVP 60 carries.

Schedule next year if we are in last place:
  • Houston Texans
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Denver Broncos
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Philadelphia Eagles
  • Washington Redskins
  • Oakland Raiders
  • San Diego Chargers
  • Dallas Cowboys
  • New York Giants
  • Houston Texans
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Cleveland Browns
  • Buffalo Bills

The first 14 are set, the last 2 depend on where we finish.

but there is not grudge match i would rather watch in the entire NFL that doesn’t involve the titans. i loathe them both as franchises, but those 2 teams always play a hell of a football game.

Yeah, I spent about 30 minutes over there.

It’s like taking a dip in a hot tub after taking a long, hard day.

If this is sacrilege, so be it.

But I feel bad for the guy. He’s a competitor. His coach and owner are…are…I don’t even know what. Scared? Clueless? Timid? Silly?

I feel what every Colt’s fan feels right now: The inevitable loss to the Chargers just a few weeks away.

Owner vs. Players

Owner says:

"Football logic has to come into play, and that logic is it makes no sense to have guys out there with the potential for injuries," Polian said. "We played for 16 weeks, sharp as any team in football. The good thing is that none of this mattered in the standings."

Guy who is actually in pads fighting the real fight (Jeff Saturday – on the fans booing):

"I don’t blame them a bit, man," three-time Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday(notes) said. "I probably would have booed, too. I don’t blame them. They pay to come see us win games, and we didn’t get it done."

When will they ever learn?

This one's for you, #9.

Cowboys are in.

And once again, a team improves after getting rid of TO.

This one's for you, #9.

by Drubaru on Dec 27, 2009 10:29 PM CST reply actions

Well, not the 49ers, but the Eagles and Cowboys. Two out of three.

The Eagles went from 6-10 to 10-6, made the playoffs.

Now the Cowboys go from 9-7 to currently 10-5, made the playoffs.

Now, the first year of two with a team, he seems to help. But history shows that by the 2nd or 3rd year, they start to go downhill. Usually around the same time he starts complaining about his role in the offense of the effectiveness of his QB.

This one's for you, #9.

by Drubaru on Dec 28, 2009 12:39 AM CST up reply actions

yeah

TO always comes in and his talent is the first story. then the drama begins and he slowly sucks the life out of a team. when even the dallas freaking cowboys can’t stomach what an ass you are, that’s quite an accomplishment.

The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.

and then immediately drop him the next day? Maybe we pick up a win or two.
