On Wednesday, Hood worked with the first team defense as Harper missed his second straight day of work because of a shoulder injury suffered last week against the Dolphins.
Asked about his chances of starting on Friday night against the Chargers, Hood said: "It is still up the air, I have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine. But I’ve tried to stay ready as much as possible. If I am called to do it I’ll be ready.’’
"Nick is always able answer the bell, so I am not concerned about him,’’ Fisher said. "Rod is fine, he has prepared himself, he is a pro and he knows what to do. If Nick can’t go Rod can do it.’

I can't do it
I do NOT want Harper to start, but I do not want an injury to cause that. I want Jeff Fisher to realize that it does not take an owner’s request to make a change in depth chart and make the change based on Harper’s poor play.

I'm sorry his is hurt
however from a game standpoint I hope Rod gets a chance to play but he will have to step up in a big way. He’s basically been on ice ever since Harper came back. I hope Rod can step up and make it happen…..
im not sorry
seriously….i hope Hood steps up big time so Fisher can see what he has…..im wishing Hood does well so they get rid of Harper and next year i can own a Hood jersey :-)
harper cant lose his job because of injury
.. or play, or retirement, or death
I ask this in all seriousness, not to defend Harper
What are we going to do is Hood actually is worse than Harper and gets burned by the first real passing offense he faces?

I have thought the same thing.
But how would we know if we don’t try?

About Harper
I’ve always thought he was a good cover guy, excellent tackler. I never really thought he was a negative until this season. I don’t know if he lost speed or what, but he’s lost a lot of his cover ability. Maybe he’s not getting the safety help? I don’t know, but besides the STL game, I haven’t seen a good game out of him this year. The only team we have to compare Hood and Harper with are the Jaguars, and I don’t even know that it’s fair to compare those two even though it’s the same team.
So here’s the situation we have now:
If Harper stays in and sucks, we can develop or get a free agent corner this offseason
If Hood plays this week and gets toasted, we can develop or get a free agent corner this offseason
If Hood plays and does decent, we should still probably develop or get a free agent corner this offseason

honestly, i don't see how anybody can be worse than harper
i have yet to see him defend a pass all year. it seems to me, on any zone scheme, he always let go of a wide receiver way too early before the safety is in position to help. that’s why there are a lot of in-between completions against him and chris hope. his zone coverage is smaller than finnegan’s.

Here's the thing
Everyone is saying that Hood can’t be worse than Harper because Harper is just awful. However, we saw awful against good passing teams (Indy &NE) when Harper was out.
Hood came after the bye.
We had rookie corners on Moss and Wayne. Of course that would be terrible.

Hood was largely on his guys
Harper is not. He’s frequently yards away before he can close and attempt tackle, Hood was on the spot more often. Either hood closes faster or just understands the coverage assignments better. Latter would be surprising since he just got here.
nobody said "Anybody is better than Harper"
so who are you responding to? :-)
As for the Indy & NE games, the whole secondary were playing awful at that time. the safeties always seem to bite on play actions, remember?
in the last game, we saw where miami thinks the weak link in the defense is by throwing to harper’s side of the field numerous times. harper was not able to prove them wrong.

I'm still blown away
by the fact that not only has Harper been starting over Hood, but that Hood has been inactive and hasn’t had pads on in weeks. Surely there is someone else on the team they could have had inactive before a veteran corner that played very well for them on short notice.
Reminds me of that rebuilding year...
when for some inexplicable reason, Fisher wanted to start DeRon Jenkins over…I forget who the other option was at the time…but he was clearly better than Jenkins, who got toasted all year.
