Kuharsky: If Lovie Smith gets 86ed, Mike Heimerdinger could be in the mix in Chicago
If the Bears are in the market for a head coach to come in, fix Jay Cutler and get the Bears moving in the right direction, you’d have to expect Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger would be on their list.
Heimerdinger has not only helped resurrect Vince Young, a quarterback who many thought was incapable of playing effectively in the league, but he also has a good history with Cutler and ties to the area.
This could be a very interesting situation to watch in the off-season. 'Dinger left for Denver the Jets in the first place because the position was supposed to get him closer to a head coaching spot, and at 57 he won't get too many more looks for a head spot.
Losing 'Dinger could be a blow to Vince, who has thrived under the guru's tutelage, or it could be a boost if Reinfeldt/Fisher managed to snag a prodigy OC who knew how to better use VY (say what you will about the Chow hire, but it showed that Fisher would think outside the box).

Losing Dinger would be a disaster.
But I think he deserves a shot at being a head coach.

im not so sure
if vince doesn’t lose what dinger has already taught him, we could definitely do better in the scheme/play calling department. if losing dinger means vince regresses to his old self, that’s a disaster.

I agree with theologic, it'd be a disaster.
Putting VY in the position of learning a new OC’s offense, just as he’s starting to flourish in this one, could send him a step back. It’s a bit risky to me. I’d hate for VY to end up like Jason Campbell. But, I also agree with Hal’s point about doiing better in the scheme department.

it would be risky for sure
but if they got the right guy that meshed well with vince i think it would be fine.

Won't miss his bizaare playcalling.
Maybe Fisher has some to do it with? Vince will be better off without fisher+dinger

Amazing how quick people turn on a HC
One “bad” year (and the Titans are still in the playoff hunt) is not enough to call for the removal of the best mustache in football. Titans would miss Heimerdinger big time if he left, especially if the new incoming OC brings a totally different scheme.

What's amazing
is how inept Fisher has seemed this season after 16 years in the big chair. That’s what’s amazing.

Fisher getting fired....
…here is why I don’t like it. Aside from all of his dumbass decisions this year he has put together one hell of a coaching staff. Washburn, Munchak, Dinger and McGinnis are some of the best position coaches in the league, so I’m sure if Fish goes they go. And that scares me. Unless our next coach wants to keep them which would be a little strange…..

The real story here is that hal would leave us to become a Bears fan

I doubt this has much credence to it.
But i’d hate to see it happen personally because of the step back we’d take after making strides this season.

Exactly
please do not leave Mike.
I don’t think he is a bad OC at all. He has some unique plays and situation plays that are just impressive. He does make bad calls, but every freaking’ coordinator does. lay off of him.

ummmm
lets not forget who decided kerry collins was joe montana for the 1st 6 games and called 35+passes a game. dinger’s game plans on offense were freaking criminal during the 1st 6 weeks. he is sooooo replaceable.
