Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Fastest Underdog Evah? Edition
The gambling site bodog.com says Chris Johnson is an underdog to hit 2,000 yards... he's a +120 underdog (bet $100 to win $120) so it's not like the odds are insultingly against him. Still were I still a bettin' man I'd feel pretty safe about that bet since we don't play the world's greatest run defenses in the next few weeks.
How strange is it to see a Jeff Fisher coached team that's 14th on offense and 24th of defense? Our DVOA ratings go a long way to showing what a long, strange trip this season has been.
No matter how much time Vince Young misses to injury, he still wants and expects to play on Sunday. I'd expect him to get the nod, and I'd also expect Vince to not even try to run. It'll be interesting to see just how he fairs without that threat on the table, because it was something he struggled with in 2007 when he suffered a hamstring injury.
Follow us through the jump to find-out what the Dolphins are saying about CJ's speed...
Chad Henne is starting to blossom for the Dolphins (though I refuse to say 'groove' about a white boy from anywhere in Michigan that isn't Detroit), and never was that more apparent than his 22-29 performance last weekend against the Jaguars.
Looks like the yesterday over Ginn's chickening out of a foot-race with Chris Johnson had it's intended effect, as the Dolphins are talking openly about how afraid they are of Johnson's wheels.
As well they should be scared: Even though Johnson slipped on his pace a little last week, he's still got the best rushing pace and total at this point in the season since Terrell Davis in 1998. THere have been a lot of running backs making good livings in the NFL since then, and none have come close to what Johnson's doing.
Jeff Fisher's son Brandon will be playing for the FCS National Championship this weekend in Chattanooga when his Montana Grizzlies face-off against Villanova.
ESPN wants you to rank the greatest single-season records in NFL history. Alas, yards from scrimmage isn't in there.
Already looking to the off-season, National Football Post has a great rundown of the certain and likely coaching vacancies around the NFL. Fisher is on there, but with a note about how the turn-around likely saved his hide.
Jeremy Green. Still suckin' at talent evaluation.

It is very sad..
Chris Henry, Rest In Peace. I pray for God to gives his family and close ones the strength to endure this very tough situation.
In a weird segway from that report...
Alas, yards from scrimmage isn’t in there.
Isn’t that ridiculous? How is this not the most important and impressive stat for a Runningback? It should at least be IN the discussion.

It's ignorant that it's not there
especially since RB’s get killed in evaluations for not being able to contribute in the passing game these days.

It is ridiculous
It should be the 2rd most important stat on offence after qb efficiency.

ESPN
Yet another reason to hate them. Paul K is the only reason I ever go there. I mean, they make you pay lots of cash moneys to access anything meaningful. That’s why I love MCM, ALWAYS something good goin on over here.

Go read the Phinsider
It’s not worth arguing with them about, but good gosh they think they are gonna dominate us.
We all are pretty much sure we won’t be able to stop your precious CJ but if we can limit him from making that big play along with your passing game. We can pull this out. That’s why this segment is called Keys to Victory. Let me say it again. Maybe a little slower this time so you can understand. KEYSSS TOOO VICTORYYY.

you missed this little nugget from one of your boys...
Miami fan + Overconfident = Loss
LMAO evidently DENIAL is not just a river that flows through egypt. It also seems to flow directly through the overconfident heads of miami fans. As a Titan fan we hear this every week about how opposing defense will stop CJ. FYI Better defenses that yours have tried and failed. You just keep worrying about andre johnson as you walk into a buzzsaw! "46"
So before you go talking about us being Cocky.. go look at your own..
Also the post said that we WONT be able to stop CJ, and if we limit him we can win.. sounds pretty spot on to me..

Also why dont you post the whole thing he wrote... instead of trying to be a journalist and picking apart someones comment
Last I checked it wasn’t the fans that were playing this Sunday. So what does it matter how confident we are. What matters is how our guys play.
And I can speak for most of the fans on this post. I don’t believe anybody on this team is over confident about beating an opponent. (Porter being the exception) I’d like to say focused on what needs to be done. If anything by your comment you seem to be a little over confident.

Not trying to start anything BUT
why are they acting as if the Jaguars are the same team as us? Everyone knows that the Jags suck! I don’t get it.
Jags have a better record...
and you’re only as good as your record, when it comes down to it.

I do believe
That it was one of your own who posted on our site that he wasn’t even worried about this game. At least, not as worried as one of your other games ahead of us.
The Rams or the Lions? We wish. Trust me, most of us are worried over this game and just can’t wait to see the turnout.
Just like I’m sure that fan doesn’t represent the confidence level of Miami fans on a whole as that site, I would assume you would realize that a couple of fans (we have them coming out of the woodwork and a lot of them are irregulars who are overly cocky because that’s their personality) who might post something like that doesn’t mean he represents the norm.
In an unrelated note, I do believe fans on this site have also stated that if we can somehow manage to stop (read: contain) CJ, which I doubt, we do have a far easier path to victory.
Trust me, if we win this game, it will almost be an unexpected victory to me. You match up very well with us, and I’m hoping at the very least that it’s close until the end because I highly doubt we’d be the team to blow you out if either team is blown out.
Good luck, no injuries.

In the third paragraph
I meant “Just like I’m sure that fan doesn’t represent the confidence level of Tennessee fans as a whole on this site.”
Apologies

If that refers to me, then next time you shouldn't ask a question...

If you feel as though you’ll beat us without worrying as much, that’s your take on it. It’s misguided, but it’s your take. So be it.
I’m just saying, don’t call us a cocky fansite because one fan has a poor perspective on a tough game when one of this site’s more intelligent fans has his own cocky attitude about him.

I wasn't bashing The Phinsider at all
As a matter of fact, The Phinsider community seems awesome. Lots of good posts and a ton of awesome commenters.
But reading through those comments, as a whole, ya’ll are a very cocky bunch. Much cockier, even, than Colt fans. That’s not a knock on you, we’re all cocky at one time or another, but it seems like ya’ll think you have it all figured out and this one is gonna be a cakewalk. Not picking on you individually, but I don’t seem to be the only one who gets that vibe.
And you could be entirely right
We both know that you (in general, not you specifically) tend to be biased toward your side. If there are a bunch of overly cocky people who post on the Phinsider, guess it’s just my biased ignorance blinding me. For that, I would have to apologize. I still think we’re no more cocky than the average team’s fansite. Again, I could be entirely mistaken.
We don’t have it figured out at all. Really, if we seem cocky, it’s most likely because we all know that this is far from a cakewalk and that we need to hold our heads high and sound as though we’re prepared to take you on. It’s like heading to a job interview for that job you don’t expect to get: if you don’t tell yourself you’re gonna win and make yourself (and everyone around you, I guess) believe it, you probably won’t get it.
Not saying that we’ll win because we’re cocky, but you get the point. I try not to be cocky, and wasn’t so before our loss to the Bills. Any Given Sunday is the reason why.
I have nothing against MCM and think you have an intelligent and very well-run blog here as well. But if it’s fair and reserved to be a little cocky now and again, I just ask politely that you don’t dock us for it. I don’t believe the general consensus around our site is that you’re a cocky bunch and need to be taken down a notch. We welcome the challenge and enjoy talking about our team’s strengths and weaknesses with you.

Look at it this way:
What would be the point of saying, “Yeah, Jimmy’s right. It’s gonna be close.” He’d already said that. I gave a different point of view with a different line of reasoning because, I mean, what else is the point of these sites?
DannoE
"You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."
I completely agree
and that’s the type of conversation I like to see and have. It just appears as though you’re on the same page with me, and so I’m making a point on someone who agrees with it. Guess you’re not the person my earlier point was intended for.
Most of this conversation has to do with my defending good-natured confidence and a fan of his team explaining the differences he sees in the game and which aspects of it will have X or Y outcome. I don’t see you opposing that idea.

And ESPN doesn't say a word on their website
Even though they are broadcasting the damn game. Sorry, apparently I’ve got a lot of pent up hatred toward the “leader” in sports this morning.

I would put much stock in the Henne's 22-29 performance aganist the Jags
1. No Mathis
2. Jags Pass Defense near the bottom of the league…
Henne has had 5 INT in his last 4 games. It looks like if we shut the run game down….their receivers aren’t prolific enough to be effective against us. The Wildcat is nonexistent without Ronnie Brown. I am confident that we will have a good game and keep our playoff hopes alive!
by Bonafidebrother on Dec 17, 2009 11:21 AM CST reply actions
The Wildcat
wasn’t a factor in our win over New England or Jacksonville.
Three of those picks came in a game where our defense let him down, forcing him to shoot his way to a victory against a team who catches bullets (and seemingly nothing else). Yes, he’s still inconsistent and making some dumb mistakes. He’s also got the potential to have 17 straight completions (against any secondary in the league, that’s impressive. It’s not like he was throwing five yard outs on every down) or lead a two-minute drill efficiently.
Are your defensive linemen physical enough to beat our O-Line in the trenches?

17 straight completions is good
even if you’re playing pop warner. Guy has a strong arm. I just pray that special teams won’t be the difference.
