Tennessee Titans Morning Links: We All Knew It Should Have Been Ganther > Henry Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Justin Gage is expected to play Sunday, though I seriously doubt you'll see him getting his normal amount of reps.  He should begin to ease himself back in the line-up though, forcing the staff to make a decision soon on who will be starting opposite Kenny Britt.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The game against the Rams will pit two of the best running backs in the NFL against each other, with neither looking likely to make it to the post season by most accounts.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Kevin Mawae says he is dead-set on playing next year, even if it's not with the Titans (Mawae's contract expires at the end of the season).  He says he'd love to stay, but it'll be interesting to see which way the front office goes since Leroy Harris has been the replacement in waiting for two years now.

Follow us through the jump for updates on free agency and what a former Titan is up to...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Beyond Mawae, there are several key veterans who have contracts coming up this off-season.  It's impossible to predict what's going to happen since the salary cap and CBA are up in the air, but many of them are almost certainly playing their last few games in the two-toned blue.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 If Chris Johnson is going to chase greatness this year, he really needs to feast on the Rams' defense this week, and as likely as that looks to happen, CJ's still not taking anything with this squad for granted.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 H/T to T Coleman who made a fan shot of this link to a Sports Illustrated article on CJ, and how he defies the stereotypes surrounding small, speedy running backs.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 As the Rams take the field Sunday, they'll do so without their second leading tackler, safety Oshiomogho Atogwe, who will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.  Also in doubt is first round tackle Jason Smith, who has been struggling with the lingering effects of a concussion for three weeks.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Congratulations to former Titan and current Redskin's RB Quinton Ganther for taking over the starting position in Washington.  The RB position has been in flux there since Portis and Betts went on IR, and Ganther's good play has unseated Rock Cartwright

Is it just me

Or does Rock Cartwright sound like a 50’s-era movie star?

I think our more pressing need is D Line

I would love to see us trade up and draft Suh from Nebraska. We need a guy at DT or DE who can pressure QB and shore up the rotation at D line. Kearse is done, KVB is nearing the end, etc. I really believe that McCourty or Mouton can be our future CB opposite Courtland. I know both have struggled this year but if you recall so did Finny his rookie year and even into his 2nd.

Now if we don’t trade up and Berry is still on the board then yes take him be all means.

I am as big of a Vol fan as you will find, but my loyalty does not extend blindly

Once they leave Knoxville, how much a cheer for them is dictated by where they go in the NFL. I can’t stand Manning now, same for Jamal when he was a Raven. That does not mean I don’t recognize their talent but once they leave UT all bets are off. Same goes for the flipside, hated Kearse in college loved him as a Titan.

I too, hate the people who say they pull for the Titans except when they play against Manning. I have my own name for those people “Peyton Puffers”

If only...

…more Vols fans were like you.

HE’S BEEN GONE FOR TEN FREAKING YEARS! STOP WEARING HIS DAMNED JERSEY TO TITANS GAMES!

Sorry…

It would cost a lot to trade up to the #1 pick.

I woul really like to have

Mawae, Bulluck, and Scaife back.

by danomite on Dec 10, 2009 10:11 AM CST via mobile reply actions

Really?

Seems to me like he’s the only complete TE on the roster. Why don’t you want him back?

by ctex80 on Dec 10, 2009 10:36 AM CST up reply actions

He wants too much money for limited production

And we have Jared Cook in waiting.

If he was reasonable with his contract demands, then sure. But he isn’t, so take a hike.

by T--Rac's Posse on Dec 10, 2009 10:39 AM CST up reply actions

I agree

I like him but not for the money he is bound to demand.

Who is Jared Cook?

He is the future!

As long as Alge doesn’t eat him

Re-sign Keith Bulluck

Or sit on him...

Remember Alge, you only sit on the guys NOT wearing two-tone blue.

by Antoniemey on Dec 10, 2009 12:34 PM CST up reply actions

I don't trust

Jared Cook yet, and now that VY is clearly going to be kept I’m more in the keep Bo camp, because VY is comfortable with Bo.

by numbertenox on Dec 10, 2009 12:02 PM CST up reply actions

Bo Scaife is going to want a long term deal

So if you don’t trust Cook yet, then you won’t ever trust him over Scaife. I do “trust” him. I think Scaife is highly overrated. Look at his stats. Not exactly pro bowl numbers here. On top of it, because of his body size and playing style, he is a horrendous Red Zone target (just look at his touchdown numbers. They’re always really low) and the Titans Offense only struggles in the Red Zone. They need no help moving the ball the first 80 yards of the field, it’s the last 20. Cook has much more potential there than Scaife ever has.

He isn’t a franchise TE, and he wants franchise TE money. No thanks.

by T--Rac's Posse on Dec 10, 2009 12:06 PM CST up reply actions

Cook can play...

…when healthy. Jason Jones can also play… when healthy. Unfortunately, both talent AND health are necessary.

there are other guys i'd rather have them keep

and scaife probably will want too much money, but jared is as yet completely unproven. Hopefully they will get him some more playing time this year.

by numbertenox on Dec 10, 2009 1:04 PM CST up reply actions

If Cook can stay healthy.

At this point, that’s a big IF. I mean, look at Jason Jones…

Bulluck is the one we really need to resign.

He is everything to this team. Leader on the field, in the locker room and community. It kills me to think that Dec. 25 might be the last time we see him in Nashville wearing the two tone blue. That is not a gift I want for this christmas or any other. He should retire a TITAN!!!
