Titans 20 Cardinals 17 Quick Recap: WOW!

I am pretty much speechless at this point.  I had a negative recap ready to go.  Thankfully I did not have to use it.  I was ready to hammer Vince Young for the play at the end of the first half, but I will give him a pass because he played so well down the stretch.  He has proven now that he can come back from adversity and pass when teams know he is passing.

Not yet. Next week we face the Colts.

A win puts us at .500 looking at 2 straight games against teams with losing records.

Beat St. Louis and Miami, we’ll be 8-6 and back in the thick of things. We can take it down then.

I don't think there's any doubt that the picks of Kenny Britt and CJ

in back-to-back late first round spots shows this front office knows what they’re doing.

Man, the future of this team looks light-years ahead of where it was going into the bye week!

Front Office

really needs to get a returner in here. Wish we still had Chris Carr or we would get a guy like that here. Britt looked good at KR, but our return game, especially PR is really gonna kill us in one of these games.

by Big Bad Bulluck on Nov 29, 2009 9:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

talk about atonement

VY makes up for his end of the half mistake and Britt makes up for his fumble. VY 4th quarter magic. Amazing. It was the Rose Bowl all over again. You could just see the look on matt leinart’s face: “fuck, here we go again”. Simply unbelievable.

I can't see

hammering VY or Britt for trying to make plays… Mistakes yeah, but them dudes are giving 100%… That’s all you can ask. VY isn’t always gonna be perfect. But tonight dude was damn close. Throwing the deep ball better than he ever has…

by Big Bad Bulluck on Nov 29, 2009 9:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

A negative recap and hammer Vince........typical MCM

How about hammer Harper? Or Griff? How about the D line for not getting much pressure? Vince is trying to make a play and it ends up a mistake. Yeah. He screwed up there, but he played very well throughout the whole game. That’s not the play that would have cost the game. There is a collection of defensive suckiness that is to blame.

That’s why I quit posting here very often. It’s not that I’m a VY homer (I am) it’s that this blog is too quick to slam him for every little thing. Body posture. Choice of charity events. Etc….

Cut the dude some slack and support him bad plays and all.

don't poop on our parade!

It was an awful play at the end of the half, cost his team 3 points. It was a great drive at the end of the game….and it really was a great game, a great 5 games. i’m sure Jimmy would have mentioned all those other things, be happy my friend….we won!

by gotitans27 on Nov 29, 2009 6:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Oh there was plenty of hammering of Harper and Fisher

in there as well. The reason that I mentioned hammering Vince specifically was because he was the only one that atoned for his mistake.

And I never hammered him for choice of charity events.

Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.

by Jimmy on Nov 29, 2009 6:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Seriously

I thought the last play of the first half was primarily Fisher’s fault. You gotta go for the field goal with only 8 seconds left. It seeme very un-Fisher-like to risk getting in another play in 8 seconds when we had a sure field goal opportunity. Anyway, it doesn’t matter now, except that maybe it is a learning opportunity for both Fisher and Young, but one that thankfully didn’t cost us the game.

by JimR on Nov 29, 2009 6:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

disgaree

you have to trust an NFL QB to know how to work the clock and run a play at the same time. 6 seconds or more and you run that play, IMO.

Fisher wouldn’t have done that VY’s rookie year, but I’m not going to kill Vince for botching it. If that’s the worst he does then we’re money.

Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.

by August West on Nov 29, 2009 7:11 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agree.

And, that’s kind of while it was a mistake, that play, in a nutshell, is the difference between Kerry and Vince. VY will get some flack for that play, but I’d bet that 50% of the time he finds a guy for a TD. Risk/Reward.

agreed

Music City Miracles blogger and official Jon Bovi tour manager.

by August West on Nov 29, 2009 7:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep

I was thinking just because that play was so crazy, someone had to be all alone in the end zone.

I would have blamed the game on special teams if they would have lost. Kick return for TD and having to drive the long field on most of the offensive drives.

by earlers on Nov 29, 2009 7:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

VY deserves plenty of blame for taking 3 off the board

Sure, he made plays to get them in that position… but he needs to be better than that.

Winning is the great deodorant… but that obviously is a moment to learn from and study.

The positive from this is I think we can bury the “how will he respond to adversity?” question for now. Yes, there will be a Sunday he doesn’t make that play, but mental toughness shouldn’t be a big concern after this one.

i didnt know that sack.....

took 3 points away from us. dont we have to get them first to have them taken away? anyways, yeah it was a bad mistake, but any given time VY can make a couple of ppl miss and take it to the house, just like CJ does. so why not give him the benefit of the doubt. but it doesnt work out, and most ppl are more than ready to jump on VY for something like that, instead of “he’s just trying to make a play, sucks the time ran out”. besides, that play should have been overshadowed on the britt fumble, that was WAY more costly. potentially could have ended our game winning drive at the time. funny how qb’s can take all the blame (b/c im sure he would have if we lost this game, nothing but"if we had 3 points this, if we 3 points that, yeah yeah yeah) but cant use their W-L as a legit stat. interesting. but i agree with you, the adversity issue needs to be thrown out the window, not alot of 99 yd drives that happen often especially a throwing TD from just a “running back that can throw” lol 387 yards!! yeah right! GO TITANS!

Yes. You expressed your opinion. Just like you do every 29th day of the 4th month, when someone does something questionable.

So, since you are not going to be around anymore, I have created a template so we can just fill it in when someone asks what Hook em Titans would say:

WHAT? (Insert name of Titan player here) got (arrested, drunk, stoned, hung out with strippers, etc.)???? I am appalled that this website will even mention the name of (aforementioned Titan player) ever again! I tell you, as I go through my perfect life never doing anything incorrect or morally/ethically questionable, I find it shocking that our society will continue to support (aforementioned Titan player) as he is obviously the scourge of same!! See if I EVER let a member of my family watch a Titan game while (aforementioned Titan player) is still wearing two toned blue!!!!

And it is usually followed up with:

I am amazed how quick you people are to criticize Vince Young. He does one little bitty thing questionable for the first time in his life and you people are ready to throw him out. Amazing. Why can’t you support him through the bad decisions as well as cheer the good????

And if anyone doubts me, search through Hook em Titans comments and see if 99% of em don’t fall into this template.

You don’t get to appear out of nowhere for the first time in months and hammer MCM for being truthful. No sir.

Perhaps Jimmy came off a bit strong

But I’m sure he would have tried to be objective and compliment Vince too this game. Even if the Titans had lost, VY had a lot going for him. However, it IS a big mistake for him to not get his team at least a FG try there. There’s nothing wrong with pointing that out.

i actually.....

dont like to be referred in that aspect. hey aug man, im just letting the man know whats been up in case he hasnt seen it himself. i mean a countdown to the nfl draft to see which qb we would draft next year, and now this. i agree winning solves alot of things, but just like fish actions at the beginning, something things should not go unnoticed. i just hope VY restructures his contract so we can lock him up for a long time, not alot of players would want to for the same organization that was ready to run him out of town.

with what we’ve seen now, I’m more confident than ever that he’s the guy to lead this franchise. My only reservation is that we still don’t know how he’d react to a losing streak, but that’s not an issue if we don’t hit one!

weak counterfactual

Maybe/maybe not valid… but it shows us how far he’s come that we consider the only lingering question somewhat improbable given the way the team is performing around Vince.

by WC22 on Nov 29, 2009 7:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i believe this as well.....

but just to go off the wall, VY is a team player whether ppl wanna give him that credit or not, so the titans are 0 and 6….well so is VY even if he was not the starting qb. and he could have came back under center and not gave a f**k and he tanks the rest of the season (with the majority of the blame over KC). but he doesnt, he comes back and leads us to a 5 game winning streak, in the midst of all the negative talk and avalanche of shots being taken at him for this and for that that happened IN THE PAST. id say thats handling adversity very well.

Young to Britt

Can get used to that… good to see the instant redemption for both of their boneheaded plays.

Also, props to Young for doing what great QBs do twice on that last drive… put the ball where your talented supporting cast can make a play. Britt on 4th and 4 early… you’re taking a shot and trusting your teammate. To Britt late… putting the ball where he can make a play. That’s what Brees and Manning do especially well, and it’s what makes good QBs great in the NFL.

Long way to go… but big steps being taken today.

One thing I need cleared up.

This 8 (now 9) straight wins as a starter stat that keeps on popping up doesn’t add up. We’ve got these 5. Then Jacksonville last year. But, we lost to the Chargers in the first round of the playoffs two years ago. The stat is impressive, but misleading because the San Diego game was the biggest of them all.

I guess that’s where the stat came from, but it’s not accurate. It’s 9 consecutive REGULAR season wins, with a playoff loss sprinkled in.

that's why people keep talkin about the colts so-called 20 game win streak

doesnt make any sense

I'm a lifetime 49er fan who came on here last week

to wish you guys well against AZ and promise that we would take care of Jacksonville. We did and you did. Congratulations on a classic win that will go down in your franchise history if you are able to come back this season. Just five to go! Good luck.

Remember how 6 weeks ago....

How the Titans were left for dead and everyone was drinking Texans Kool-Aid? Yeah…The Texans will ALWAYS be the annoying little cousin of the Titans. Everyone will pick them just because they think it’s finally the year and they always disappoint.

Hey Michaeltastic

I think I can make your job a little easier this week:

Just call it Play of the Week: Week 12 and post the play.

I don’t think we need to waste our time with all that voting stuff.

Just fast-forward to the end of the first half.

You won’t miss much, but it gets pretty exciting starting right around there.

I just finished watching the game (since I had to record it), but I agree with Jimmy.

I was really afraid that the mental error with the clock at the end of the first half was showing some signs of immaturity left in Vince. However, the way he bounced back from that, refocused, and kept playing hard in the second half made me feel like he’d shaken it off like an old pro. The phenomenal game winning drive proved to me just how much Vince has grown as a person, player, and leader of this team. Kudos to VY!

Way to go Vince!!!

I knew the Titans were due for one of those heart attack games that aren’t decided til the final seconds. Way to go Vince!! Way to show all the haters, doubters, and so-called experts what many of us always knew! I just have one question, where are all those Jay cutler suck-holes now?! “46”

Just my 2 cents

Since the team was down by 4 pts, that 3 pt loss end of first half is only devestating if they can’t can’t get back into fg position by end of game. The td was much more exciting and I am betting VY will remember that fiasco for a long time to come, WTG TEAM!!! I just love this forum and everyone’s opinions, Thanks for the good work.

I may be a Niner fan (since 1946),

but the pass from Young to Britt brought tears to my eyes. I flashed back to Montana to Clark in 1981. This play may well have just as significant an impact on Titan history if you guys can continue the run. No reason you can’t. No matter what anyone says, Young is a great QB, Chris Johnson scares the hell out of anyone, and you guys have a bunch of young talented receivers. Then there’s Jeff Fisher — nobody better. Good luck the rest of the season. Just visualize 10-6.

I dont get the whole VY clock management thing...

I do on the surface of it but for God sakes if we start looking back at all the points we left on the table in games 1 through 6 we might be 8-3 or even 9-2.

people, you witnessed magic today. Kenny Britt-magic. VY-magic. CJ-magic. If we dont make it to the playoffs this year I can live with that. But VY and company gave me something today I’ll never forget PFM! I gaurantee I wont be thinking about the field goal we missed at the end of the first half.

Clock Management thing thread

Long time Titan/Oiler fan from the days of Pastorini, Burroughs, Billy “WhiteShoes”,Kenny Houston days. This is my first post but I saw a thread talking about the clock management thing in the first half and I just have to say that things happen for a reason, If they had managed to stop the clock and stopped and kicked and made the field goal, everything else being the same, one point down 16-17 at the end. Now do you go for the touchdown or just kick it with 6 seconds left? One different outcome would have changed the storyline significantly probably. Love these guys, it didn’t play in my region so I followed the play by play on my computer and it was maybe just as exciting even though I had to wait for every call.
