MCM Play of the Week (Week 8)
So far this year, I've had few plays to choose from each game, and usually end up putting an average play in there to round out the 4 spots. Since there were so many good plays this week, I'm just putting all of them in there! And I wouldn't mind doing it the next 9 weeks, either!
Your first winning edition of POW after the jump!
A. Roderick Hood intercepts David Garrard. Welcome to the Tennessee Titans, Hood! Even if Torry Holt wouldn't have run into the official, I think Hood still gets this pick. Hopefully this guy keeps performing like this and knocks Harper out of that starter spot. Also, William Hayes absolutely leveled Maurice Jones-Drew at 0:09.
B. Chris Johnson runs for a 52-yard TD. This play was only so-so because he kept his lunch. Although CJ was ridiculous in this game, you have to give the credit on this run to the blocking. Ahmard Hall got the first guy and the O-line and WRs set up a HUGE running lane. (Update: Apparently, he didn't actually throw up after the play. Maybe I should have read first. I'm keeping all of this here though because it just makes the play more BA)
C. Chris Johnson runs for an 89-yard TD. Now this is real run! CJ was patient, waited for a little crease, ran over 2 guys, busted it for 89 yards, and then puked all over the endzone. You can literally say that he left it all on the field. Anyboy else notice how freaking fast Kenny Britt looked running downfield, and getting the final block? Seems to be a common occurance on Johnson's long runs. Coincidence? (Update: Apparently, he didn't actually throw up after the play. Maybe I should have read first. I'm keeping all of this here though because it just makes the play more BA)
D. Cortland Finnegan intercepts David Garrard. Man, it's good to have him back. It's nice to see 2 aggressive corners out there. This was basically a freebie for Cort, but he earned it with his play the rest of the game.
E. Vince Young's collective plays. VY didn't really do anything spectacular, but it sure seemed like he came up big when we needed him to. He converted 4 or 5 really important 3rd downs on my count (which is definitely not an official stat and could be completely wrong). The pass to Nate Washington at 0:32 looked like his 3rd or 4th progression. The TD pass to Washington at 1:05 was right where that kind of pass needs to be. The pass to Britt at 2:13 was why we drafted him. He did everything that was asked of him in this game. His passes were right where they needed to be for the WRs to make an easy catch. I'm still not convinced on Young, because this is only 1 game, but I sure do have hope for him now.
F. The V formation. BAM!
P.S.: I was really proud to see the fan support at this game. I guarantee you won't see that in about 25 other teams' stadiums when they are 0-6. i'm really glad I was there to watch it (and really pumped about the free T-Rac giveaway!).

How could a 0-6 game be so gratifying?
I mean everything went well, the defense played pretty well, CJ rightfully asserted himself as the franchise back, and Vince made a comeback, while handling the situation maturely.

Couple reasons
1) Means we won’t be the next team to go 0-16
2) A lot of really good things happened this game. Obviously it feels good to get a win and we’d still feel pretty good even if the final score had only been 13-7. But the fact that we actually played a pretty damn good game and won easily makes this feel so much better.
3) We saw Vince make smart plays that very few people really expected him to make, giving us just a little bit more hope for the future.
and 4) Even though we are realistically out of playoff contention and it won’t help our standing much, it always feels good to beat a divisional rival.

It's gratifying because...
it’s the beginning of another “streak”. Only this one’s going to be a winning streak. This team’s past would indicate that they either win all their games or (unfortunately) lose them all. The reason this win is sooooo important is because it’s the start of a new streak.

the other replay on the finny int shows that the only reason he got it was he got BURNED by sims walker on the route and was way behind him. thankfully garrard sucks. still great to have him back, changed the whole attitude of the defence.

Anybody else think Hood looked alot better than Harper?

I said that yesterday.
He should be starter until he proves he can’t be.

You can read Del Rio's lips after the 52 yard run
“Unbelievable”

picked......
johnson going for 89, really loved how he took on the defender head on, AND BROKE THE TACKLE! something i had not really seen from him, but im sure he’ll progress to learn how to take the blows and bounce it to the outside. after watching the VY collection of play, i liked seeing the emotion from CJ to VY, i mean the guy had a record day and he still giving props to VY in the huddle. looks like team chemistry to me. great win!

I think the 52-yard run was tops...
because it was at a real momentum changer. The Jags had just pulled even off the huge MJD run, and CJ answered right back with his own big run. Titans punt here and the game could have gone much differently.
It’s great to have so many sweet plays to argue about!

picked the "V"
After such a long string of losses, individual feats aside just seeing them win finally was awesome.
I hope they don’t wear those throwback unis again this year. I hate those things. They really should burn them and claim they “lost” them if they’re supposed to wear them again. Bad karma.

This would be a difficult poll to vote on if…
… CJ didn’t have that 89 yard run. But because he did, the vote looks pretty obvious to me.
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.
It was making my brick wall jealous...
