''When Nick is ready to come back and play, Nick is going to play,'' Fisher said. ''As a rule of thumb I don't think it's fair for someone to lose their job due to injury. Rod knows that...Nick is a very good player, a solid player who has made a lot of plays for us.''
You have got to be kidding me. Now, this is the coach that I wanted fired earlier this year.

hmm...
I understand not wanting players to lose their starting job due to an injury… But losing it due to SOMEONE BEING BETTER THAN YOU AT THAT JOB is perfectly acceptable!

Did Jeff forget
He did get injured because he tried to tackle someone with his freaking forearm.
Start Rod Hood dammit!

Does Harper have to get torched 3 or 4 times for Fisher to come to the conclusion that hood is better?

Bud doesn't take losing to the texans lightly. Fisher you are risking your job.

It says Hood will still start versus the Texans.

Where was Jeff’s loyalty when Vince got hurt?

Rec'd
Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe we can pay off a reporter to say they heard Nick whining about going back into the game. Then when he does… we boo him.

that's not fair

Yeppers.
Well, the rationale was that Kerry was winning games, so he stayed in. And then Vince wasn’t “clearly better” than Kerry so he retained the start for the ’09 debacle.
Hood IS in fact winning games (3 INTs and a TD at least HELPS), AND he’s clearly better than Harper.
It seems like Fisher plays a lot of favorites.
I can’t get behind that.

The Titans have always, always
had a problem sticking with players for too long. Players lose their jobs when they are injured and someone better steps in all… the…. time. Some of the best players in the league got their start that way. This is one of the problems with a player coach, I guess.
I still like Jeff, but this season I’ve lost a lot of faith in him with regard to personnel decisions.

I guess I'm gonna have to go out and re-break his arm.

I’m fine letting Harper start the game…
… just so long as he gets pulled after the first play and Hood replaces him.
(Hopefully, the Texans don’t decide to throw a bomb to the player Harper is covering on that first play!)
I had to stop arguing with drunks, Steeler fans, and all other fools.

Harper/Hood
Nick was perceived as having limited coverage skills before he came to TN. With Big Al and the boys up front throws downfield were limited and he didn’t have to cover for as long. His good instincts, sure tackling, and effective run support really shined within that context.
Hood looks legit, Harper wasn’t good and he’ll be rusty.
To Fisher’s credit, he has stonewalled the media on a timetable for Harper’s return, and probably will keep going with Hood:
“(on Nick Harper)
Nick was cleared last week for contact. He was cleared to play last week, yes, by the medical staff. Being cleared by the medical staff and going back in the lineup and playing with a plate in your arm is two different things. We’ll just have to wait and see how he does this week.
(on if he’s waiting to see more from Nick Harper before playing him)
It’s healing is what it is. I can’t take Nick out on the practice field and have him tackle live. You go in the game and you’re going to tackle live. You have to just take your time. It’s a hard thing, and Vinnie (Fuller) went through it, and Blaine’s (Bishop) gone through it, and Ahmard’s (Hall) gone through it. It takes time. You’ve got a plate, you’ve got screws, you’ve got a fracture. It just takes time. Even though medically the doctor says you’re not going to subject yourself to more damage or injury, that type of injury just takes time. I can’t put a time table on whether he’s going to be back this week, I don’t know. "
Seems like he’s saying one thing and doing another. Hood will continue to play significant time, IMO.

I noticed that, too.
A likely scenario here is that Fisher is trying to preserve Harper’s perceived value across the League for next season. At least, that is what you would hope is happening.

You do realize
that if he comes back next week, he will be covering Anquan Boldin.

Yea that better not happen
Rod Hood is better than Harper hands down and he doesn’t deserve his starting job back.

Maybe Bud Adams will make his preference known publicly like he did with VY.
Then Fisher can act like its his decision, which is up in the air until the last day of practice. You know the story … where both players split practice time and Fisher just happens to pick the guy that Bud wanted. Oh, and then we win a bunch more games and Bud flips some more teams off.

What what what!!???
Ok I felt obligated to jump into this conversation. First off Fisher, You aren’t going to replace a steady corner like Rod Hood who in 3 games has 3 interceptions(one was a pick 6) for a guy who clearly was and is the weak link in this secondary. At least from what I’ve read Harper won’t be ready for at least 2 more weeks anyway so he won’t be exposed to Andre Johnson. I gotta say Fisher has made way too many bad judgements this year in particular. From puttin in a couple of lousy rookie cb’s who couldn’t cover a bed with a blanket to ignoring the importance of a veteran kick/punt returner. Now he wants to tinker with one of the reasons we have won 3 games to begin with? Guess what guys? Nick Harper will lose his job to injury(and a better cb) or Fisher will lose his job. Decide which is more important to you Fish, loyalty to a deadbeat or someone whos playin ther ass off and getting results. “46”

somehow we had harper on andre johnson most of the game last time. johnson torched him for the biggest plays of the game. it was laughable, an adult playing with a child. i fear for our team with harper as a starter
