Bud Adams Fined $250K for Flipping off the Bills
That's the dumbest thing I've heard of recently. The idea of the NFL adjusting fines based on how much somebody makes is a Pandora's Box: does a helmet to helmet hit get a lesser fine for Dave Ball than KVB?
This fine should have been $25,000, and saying otherwise is just crazy. If you're going to make the argument that he's a billionaire then $250,000 won't matter much more.
Bill Belicheat only got twice this much FOR CHEATING DURING A GAME. Also, Bud had already apologized.
The NFL is officially out of control with these fines.

I'll say it again, if he's stupid enough to do it with the most fine happy commisioner in any league in attendance, he deserves it

I'm sure you'd feel differently if it was your owner.

I think it's not about how much Bud makes...
but who he is, the owner of an NFL team.
Goodell does not want to see owners flipping each other.

Agreed.
Plus, this is hitting Adams where it really hurts. Because you KNOW that Adams is a greddy bastard. He is NOT gonna want to pony up $250K. Not even billionaires keep that kind of change just laying around.

Here's the sad part of this whole episode
It has distracted fan and press attention away from the fact that the Titans played a great game against the Bills. Everybody’s talking about Bud’s shenanigans instead of the outstanding performances by CJ and so many others on the team. Maybe Bud should have to pay big bucks for that.

You're taking this way too seriously.
So someone got excited and had a good time. Fisher’s Colts Jersey Fiasco was much worse. God Bless Bud Adams. This wasn’t a preconceived stunt, but Bud being nothing but Bud.
Strangely enough, this will probably rally the players to Bud Adams. He comes across as human and subject to the same demons as the rest of us. Imagine the locker room talk when the players are all discussing the crappy, chippy fines they all get tagged with and then they hear Bud gets tagged wih a $250,000 fine. And all for being passionate about his team. Over the top. He’s part of the “fine fraternity” now and part of the gang.
Sure, there are probably more appropriate and polictically correct ways to express the depth of your feelings about your team, but this is the stuff of what legends are made.

Well, I hope you are right about
how the team takes it. That’s my main concern.

Ridiculous
Sorry but I’d appeal that with the quickness! That is unprecedented and excessive! 25,000 maybe 50,000 even but 250,000?! This new commissioner blows! Finnegan also got fined for a facemask that happened during last weeks game.Have you heard of such nonsense?! “46”

I didn't see any drinking in that video,
Just an 87 year old billionaire enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon. If I had a billion dollars invested in a football team, I’d be partying every game day and you would too. I doubt we would show near as much restraint.

At 87, why not tie one on?
It’s not like you’re gonna shorten the old lifespan at that point.

Maybe I'm missing something
But who really gives 2 birds about it?
Seriously: a nearly 87-year-old billionaire who had a few too many whiskey-and-cokes decided to give the number 1 sign (twice!) to the opposing team. Then he gets fined a cool quarter-mil for it.
I dunno, I guess I’d take personal offense if you told me that CJ blows donkeys, but I couldn’t give two fewer shits if you tied bud adams up and threw his octogenarian ass off the pedestrian bridge on the way to the stadium.
He’s the dude with the cash that owns my favorite football team. Aside from that, my loyalties to that old codger are slim-to-none.
I really can’t get all worked up about some boneheaded Bedazzlers or Texans fans singing “nanny-nanny-boo-boo” about the owner of my team and his drunken shenanigans.

SWAGGERJACKED!
nay, swagger-enhanced for search engine purposes. That, I dig.

i pretty much consider
owning an nfl franchise as the ultimate dream. and bud’s living the dream. good for him. how cool is it gonna be for him to look old roger in the face and say:
“$250,000?? first off, without people like me, your entire life’s work in the NFL probably never happens, and secondly, i piss $250,000.”
here is a bunch of tax attorneys debating and ultimately deciding that belichick’s $500,000 fine (and more broadly, all nfl fines) was almost certainly tax deductible. it’s not very interesting reading unless you are into tax law (woohoo!) but it’s interesting because it makes this fine even more laughable in the face of bud’s tremendous financial situation.

If it cost me that much...
to flip someone off I would probably be homeless. Well… I would definately be homeless.
At any rate, I think Bud flying the finger is pure win covered in awesome sauce. The fine that came after is just mor glaring proof that the league is no longer about fun or the fans.
by Titan in WV on Nov 17, 2009 7:34 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
The real question is this:
Now that Bud knows how much it costs to fly the finger, will he STILL let one go after the Houston game?

Proffesional sports fines are given out but are rarely collected.
A 2005 wall street journal article found that no professional sports team reports what is collected from the individuals that are fined. So none of us will ever know if he will pay one cent of that 250K fine. So to me this is a dog n pony show to look good in public.
