Just a random thought but wondering what the NFL did for Steve McNair? Why don't we have his jersey numbers on our helmets or game jerseys? I mean we had Gene Upshaws initials on football fields and on our helmets....just a thought! The whole NFL should be representing him somehow. Every team...

THEY SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING!!!!

an well thought out question with a possible solution…and they said reggie bush was a bust…

Because

I as much as Titans fans love him he wasn’t that big nation wide. I’m not judging but being murdered by the girl your cheating on your wife with doesn’t look good. And Gene Upshaw was a HOF player McNair is not and probably won’t be, and he was Head of the NFLPA. I’m not saying anything against McNair just answering his question.

HOF doesn't mean anything....

As far as this is concerned, and neither should the circumstances surrounding his death.

Other non-HOF players honored recently by teams, the NFL, or MLB include:

Pat Tillman
Sean Taylor
Nick Adenhart (MLB)
Corey Lidle (MLB)

just to name a couple…

I don’t think a number 9 sticker is too much to ask.

I told you we would beat Georgia!! Now, as for those 9 wins in '09......

You're right, HOF shouldn't matter

What does matter are the circumstances.

Tillman died while defending our country. Sean Taylor was the victim of a home invasion, Nick Adenhart was killed in a traffic accident by another motorist, and Corey Lidle died when a plane he was flying crashed into a building.

Steve McNair was brutally murdered by the woman with whom he was cheating on his wife. Like August, I am not surprised at all that very little attention has been paid to McNair’s (admittedly tragic) death, considering how much the NFL touts its “conduct policy.”

HOF was brought up b/c of Gene Upshaw.

If you don’t think the way he died has something to do with it your nuts.

Tillman died fighting for his country.
Hill home invasion
lidle plane crash
Adenhart killed bye a drunk driver.
McNair murdered by crazy chick he was cheating with.

Guess which one doesn’t draw that much sympothy.

Kudos to Reggie Bush

I see everyones point about the way Steve died, however I think honoring him on the field of play is a different animal all together. Most pro athletes never asked to be anybodys role model. Though they are often viewed that way, I think their personal lives need to be left out of that equation for the most part.

If the NFL can earn massive ammounts of money off of the likes of Mike Vick, Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis etc. than why is it Steve can not be honered. Heck Ray lewis is practically a poster boy for the NFL and I am not sure about you guys but I would rather be associated with someone who has cheated than someone with the allegations Ray had on him.

Bottom line Reggie is right and the number 9 should be visiable throughout the NFL

Dont get me wrong

I am not defending the NFL’s actions of not honoring McNair. I am merely stating why. I think they should. Regardless of what he did, nobody deserves to be murdered and it’s a tragedy.

Not against you T-rac

It just ticks me off to see the QB we all loved swept to the side just because of a very minor personal flaw. Now I am not saying cheating is right but compared to some of the thugs we have playing in the league he was a saint

absolutely

If you don’t think a very large number of NFL players sleep around, you’re crazy. It’s not right, but it happens, and to judge a great guy for his flaws is not our job.

I declare September 9th

Steve McNair day he was a hero to all of us and he should have his own holiday here on mcm

Que Where?!?!

I agree it's odd but I wonder what prompted him to say that?

It is great that he’d speak up on that, but like what has been said I’m not surprised the NFL isn’t doing anything because of how it happened. The Titans are, that’s what matters the most.

by Titanfan on Nov 13, 2009 11:59 PM CST up reply actions

Hmmm

You know I remember the Titans wearing a black #9 sticker on the oiler throwback helmets during the hall of fame game. I guess I just assumed they would wear it all season. Now that you mention it though they should. The whole league should. Show the man some respect for what he did on the gridiron! “46”

The Titans are wearing the #9 decal on their helmets the whole season...
