Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Chris Johnson Is Homeless Baby Kisser? Edition

Cortland Finnegan just found out that Hootie is up for a CMA.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 In our 0-6 start Chris Johnson carried the ball more than 20 times only twice; in the two games since he's carried it 24 and 25 times... I think we've found the cheese in our recipe for success, people.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 To wit, CJ now has a triple digit lead on second place rusher Cedric Benson, despite 54 fewer carries than Benson.  Put it this way: Johnson has 6.7 yards per carry, and the next best in the top 10 rushers is 5.2.  That's why CJ can get away with whatever dumb sayings he's got going on his Twitter feed these days.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Join Jimmy and I tonight at 9:00 Central as we do a preview show with Buffalo Rumblings via Blog Talk Radio.  Be sure to offer up some questions you'd like answered in the comments or in the chat room when the show starts!

Follow us through the jump to find out where Jeff Fisher now ranks in all-time wins as a coach...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 One thing I'm sure we'll be talking about tonight is the in-flux QB position for the Bills.  No one really knows if it'll be Trent Edwards or Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Congratulations to Jeff Fisher, who moved up to 21st all-time in NFL coaching victories.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Fisher was pleased with the performances of fill-ins Leroy Harris and Gerald McRath.  He was also happy about the improved play of the defensive line, though their day was marred by six offsides/neutral zone infractions.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Boom King is having a charity wrestling event at the Wild Horse tonight to benefit the Preston Taylor Boys and Girls Club of Nashville. (That was last night)

Tennessee_titans_30x21 It's tough to underestimate how much Cortland Finnegan's fiery play and leadership have meant to this turn around.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Should fantasy owners think about trading Chris Johnson while his value is sky-high? If you're one of those folks and you're in the MCM Fantasy league then please give me a shout now!

Every time you read a great Titans-related story on the web and don't share it with the MCM community through the fanposts, fanshots or by emailing me at mcmaugustwest@gmail.com a Ravens (or Steelers) fan smiles.  Is that what you want?!!!!?!?!

That Fisher stat is misleading.

He might be 21st all-time in victories, but where is he by percentage?

Or, to put it another way, it’s obvious that CJ is the best rusher in the League because he has more yards on fewer carries. We should apply the same standard to coaches and all-time wins.

re: trading CJ in fantasy

hell no. the opponents the titans face in the 2nd half of the season are way more friendly in terms of rush defense than the first half. there is a good chance that cj goes out of his mind 5 or 6 more times this season. in short you would have to be out of your mind.

Lendale's future

Do you think he will be resigned? Any value there?

by titansny17 on Nov 10, 2009 10:09 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I doubt it.

At this point CJ only needs someone to go in to catch his breath. The obvious increase in value of CJ means Lendale isn’t needed. Plus i doubt Lendale wants to resign with the way things are going.

yeah

now LDW has a QB taking his carries too. unless he’s just really happy as a Titan, i think he is going to see the writing on the wall and go find a team where he can get on the field more. the front office did a good job seeing this one coming and preparing for it with the ringer pick.

also

Aaron Schatz (Football Outsiders) makes the point that the only person whom his stats compare to this early in his career is Barry Sanders. Chris Johnson is #1 in running value in their rankings this week despite being #22 in success rate.

Basically Chris Johnson rips off long runs at such an unprecedented rate that he can put up yards with the greatest backs of all time despite fewer carries and lots of stuffs for 0 or a loss.

It's incredible that he fell so far in the draft.

It goes to show how difficult talent evaluation is. He’s what everybody expected Reggie Bush to be and then some. He’s the most explosive player in football. The scary thing is that there is still room for improvement. His best years are ahead of him.

catching the ball more consistently

is one of the things he still has room to improve on. It’s mind boggling how much damage more damage he could do if we were a better screen team.

he's been much better than last year though

and I’d say he’s better than most worse than some at the RB position these days… that was an impressive adjustment and catch on the long play that was called back Sunday.

I do wonder at times...

…that we might start to ride CJ a bit too much. The same way the Vikings did AP last year. At least this year they have Brett’s passing to spell AP some. We need to keep the guy healthy.

I've wondered the same thing

Can you imagine if he got hurt? (knock on wood it won’t happen) Our team would be gone.

I don't even won't to imagine..

…CJ is our offense. And he’s a very rare guy, you couldn’t replace him. Like you said Smash, knock on wood that no one will ever have to worry about that.

Same, I hope they keep the touches at around 25

The way they are riding Cedric in Cinci has got to take a tole at some point

Buffalo has the worst rush defense in the league

Any chance that on Sunday, given the way he’s playing right now and given how awful Buffalo’s D is, CJ could legitimately take a shot at Adrian Peterson’s single-game rushing record of 296 yards?

"In Greek mythology the Titans were greater even than the gods. They ruled their universe with absolute power. Well that football field out there tonight, that's our universe. Let's rule it like Titans."

I'd love to see him take that record down

Chris Johnson---everything Reggie Bush was supposed to be.

i think its realistic if he hits 25 carries

but i dont really wanna see any more carries than that

It's not how you start.....

it’s how you finish. Did anybody see the horse race on Saturday? Man…Zenyatta wasn’t even in the frigin picture coming around the last turn….then something very special happened…that philly TOOK OFF!!! Okay, the queers from the left coast are DONE!! Time to get ready for the Bills…KEYS TO WINNING:(1) Gotta keep Schobel out of our backfield!! (2) Gotta put a TON of pressure on Edwards!! (3) Let VY & CJ keep running (but don’t forget about Britt…I really like this kid!) (4) MOST IMPORTANT…don’t get over confident…got to prepare for Buff just like they were the Steelers. Pride comes right before a fall! Now our guys certainly deserve to have some extra pep in their step…but don’t get cocky…or these guys will bite us in the butt! Can’t afford to take ANYBODY for granted right now!!
