Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Walked Upon The Edge Of No Escape, And Laughed I've Lost Control Edition
(Site note: I'm closing on my house and moving today and tomorrow, so I won't be doing the links tomorrow morning. Rest assured that Smash will deliver some great links, however, and we'll go ahead and do the Friday Jam today... in case you didn't get that from the title of the post!)
As we posted yesterday, Cortland Finnegan practiced yesterday and announced that he expects to play on Sunday night. If terrible news, Jason Jones is still out and not practicing with a shoulder injury. His poor health has really been a disappointment as he was expected to help fill the void left by Albert.
You know what our secondary has looked like so far this year? Ian Curtis' jerky, flailing epilepsy fueled dancing for the Joy Division... here's She's Lost Control.
Kerry Collins doesn't really mind the fact that the overwhelming majority of fans think Vince Young should get a shot, and for his part, VY is saying all the right things:
"I am not interested in those questions right now, because that is not what I am looking for us to do, to lose to get back in the game,'' Young said. "That is like saying you have no respect for your teammates. I have a lot of respect for my teammates and have their back 100 percent. If one guy is struggling, we are all struggling, and we need to put the pieces together to get everything right.''
Follow us through the jump to find out who sees a new maturity in VY so far this year...
Jim Wyatt detected a new-found maturity in Young's handling of the media as they did all they could to prod him into making a headline for them. He makes a good point that sometimes Vince would stir things up on accident, but he's even cutting down on those mistakes.
One of the most infuriating things we keep doing this year is going 3-and-out on offense way too much. You combine those wit the turnovers and there's no way we can win without major improvement.
Given how Tony Brown has stepped up, it's no surprise that he's getting fines from the NFL... problem is he won't open the package they sent him. I'm still dying to see what he and Jones would look like on the line at the same time for a few games stretch.
Peyton Manning got a note from Fran Tarkenton, and of course he just couldn't help telling the media exactly how humble he is.

and there's nothing more humble than pointing out ones own humbleness.

and I should know because I'm the most humble blogger there could ever be
see, that just sounds dickish, doesn’t it.

What's his alternative?
Proclaim himself to be one of the greatest ever?
//Manning to the Media: Yeah guys I always knew I would throw more TD’s than that Tarkenton fellow… It sure was nice of him to recognize that.

Peyton should start referring to himself in the third person
That’s always a classy move.
Then he could be like one of my favorite baseball players of all time- Rickey Henderson.
Rickey loves him some Rickey.
Ball, oskie, cover, block, cut and slice, pursue and gang tackle... for this is the WINNING EDGE.

He should also wear a tuxedo under
his pads. Classy.
Titans Blogger at Music City Miracles even though gramsey hates it.
David Cross' Rickey Henderson routine is classic.
around 1:30 in… though the bit before it is pretty great as well.

Just don't say anything, or at least don't babble on about it
that’s what most people do.

OR just say it was a cool letter or you enjoyed it
Why does humility have to even enter the conversation?

Re: Kerry
The first guy you look at is the quarterback. Every quarterback that’s played long enough has been through it with the exception of maybe a couple,’ the 15th-year pro said with a shrug on Wednesday. But I learned over the years that I just ignore that stuff. I am not stupid;
Could have fooled me with some of the throws he’s been making on Sundays.
that wasn't kerry collins making those throws
that was cocktail collins – aka boozy!
by vancouverTITAN on Oct 8, 2009 9:43 AM CDT up reply actions
yep. it sure looks like old cocktail has fallen off the wagon
i say cut his drunk ass, throw vy to the wolves and sign garcia as a backup. its time to find out if vince is the guy. sink or swim, thats what i say.
seriously – kerry looks awful, much like he did when he played for the raiders. i’m not sure if i want him even as a backup. jeff garcia can at least move around the pocket and make the medium range throws with decent consistency.

One more thing.
“Vince has done a great job with the situation he’s in. He took his team to the playoffs one year and now he isn’t in the game plan the following two years,” Bulluck said. "But he’s doing a good job of doing everything he can in his power. Right now his hands are tied, but I know he’ll be ready if the opportunity comes.’’
That’s a huge vote of confidence from one of the team’s leaders. It feels like Vince has the support of the locker room, which you might not have been able to say a year ago.
Yeah it is
And if I remember correctly, it reflects a change in the way Bulluck usually addressed VY because it seemed Bulluck regarded him as immature before. That’s a good sign.

Sigh...
I’m letting hope creep back in. Is this a good thing?

Ive always thought that Bulluck and VY had a pretty good relationship
But thats not to say Bulluck isnt afraid to speak his mind and be what be a bit brutally truthful. Its a good quality to have in a leader like him

i think....
it would be really hard to not want to follow Bullucks lead on the field. Just for the most part when its time to go to war i can trust he’ll be on the front line. Hoping that beneath the scenes he had a good heart to heart with VY and put him in the right direction, and it looks like hes starting to find his own way. I would not have picked a better leader/mentor for vince to learn from, both very passionate players. This is not the same VY of old, and now maybe ppl will start to realize a little bit more. Can’t wait for him to get another shot, whenever, just as long as he gets one.

Before it falls down on your head around 3:30 pm Sunday.
I’m going to get my mind around the fact that they are going to lose on Sunday. Anything else will be a nice surprise.
Exactly the way I am approaching this game.
I am expecting a 60-0 loss and hoping for anything better.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Humble one get sacked about a half dozen times
on Sunday night. I am sure he has a commercial to film the next day so be sure and bruise him up a little for good measure.

Kerry Collins is my evil twin.
we have to get....
back to that smash mouth defense. it seems like this year as opposed to this year especially on screens, pitches, etc that the urgency is just not there. last year on plays like that and there were blockers in front of the opposing players, i was almost sure that wall was going to be brought down, and as soon as the dust settled we would have the player down for a loss or close to it. thats what i want to see out the d again, something i didnt think would drop too much considering cec’s style.

No....
….why trip? The team sucks, you’re not the Starter, and the coaching staff is about as confused as a homeless man on house arrest. Enjoy the divine justice, Vince!
