Tennessee Titans Morning Links: Blackmailed, She Fell Off Every Mountain Edition
Sally Reese, the wife of former Titan GM and current Patriot front office flack Floyd Reese, called into a local sports talk radio station to torch Jeff Fisher and the entire Titans organization. I was listening to this live as it happened, and it went from unusual, to very uncomfortable to shockingly honest very quickly. If you're a Titans fan you have to check this out... (hat tip to numbertenox who posted this link yesterday).
Today's Friday Jam comes transition free straight from the best prog band in the business today it's... wait for it... wait for it... L' Via L' Viaquez by the Mars Volta! There isn't a band that's tougher to find one video that encapsulates what they're about, so I just went with an older, more accessible song... they put on a great show at the War Memorial Theater this past Tuesday. (For bonus credits, dig on this performance on Letterman and pay extra attention to the drumming of virtuoso Thomas Pridgen)
Even Tony Dungy thinks we should be starting Vince Young coming out of the bye week.

It's comments like these that make Armen Keteyian's reporting on the McNair investigation basically useless to me, because it drives home the point that he's more so a TV producer than an investigator:
[after asking a bunch of questions with on answer]
...it’s not my job to know, it’s my job to raise questions.
Too soon, Terry. Too soon.
T-Rac's Posse has some tips on how to still enjoy this horrible, putrid football season. The answer? Good old fashioned schadenfreude.
Gary Estwick looks at the mistake prone offense, and wonders how much of it is because the offense is pressing to dig out of deep holes early in games.
More from Gary on the offense at the bye week.

Sally Reese has issues.
I mean, what she did, who does that? Not anybody in their right mind.

I was in the car with my fiancée when she dropped the comment abort Fisher having an affair...
(which, there was a pretty common rumor around Nashville that when he got divorced a few years ago a lot of it had to do with an affair with a country music vixen) we were stunned. You knew it wasn’t going to get any nicer after that.
I’ve honestly never heard anything like that, ever. It put Brenda Warner to shame.

I remember the rumor.
I never really gave it much thought. I feel that it’s not our business, who cares as long as he can coach, and isn’t making a big scene about it? It’s not like former mayor Bill Boner, who went on talk shows with his new girlfriend while still married to his wife…

After listening to Wycheck's conspiracy theory this morning and from reading this blog....
I’d have to say it might not be a stretch to conclude that Jeff Fisher saw the handwriting on the wall during his visit with Bud Adams last week in Houston (hattip to DannoE for presenting an “already fired” case)
If Fisher realized during the meeting that his time in Tennessee was over and was in as much told this, it wouldn’t be a stretch to think that Jerseygate was directed as a punch to Bud Adams personally. (Jimmy, maybe it was calculated?)
That may speak towards his insistence that KC remain the starter if nothing else to piss off Bud Adams.
It would also not be a stretch to conclude that Fisher is working behind the scenes on his exit plan and will just look to protect his coaches until he’s fired. I have to assume that Fisher is working on an alternative plan at this point. If this is true, HE SHOULD BE FIRED ON THE SPOT.
As with any business, if the owner suspects and has suspicion that a key employee is working on an exit plan, the owner has the responsibility to protect the integrity of the organization to prevent harm left by the insubordinate employee.
This might all be B.S., but I would love to hear what you guys/girls think?

As with any situation lacking first person experience
I doubt any of us will ever know the “real” story about what is happening. A few years from now we’ll probably get a few honest sound bites from a few of the parties involved. Mix that in with whatever “coach speak” and PR Spin we have shoved down our throats and we should be able to piece together something resembling the truth.
But, I gotta say, this whole DannoE conspiracy thing is unfolding as a pretty decent explanation. Between Jerseygate and VY not STARTING by the Colts game I haven’t seen any better theory.

True, reading the tea leaves isn't as good as first person knowledge
We are only being fed what Fisher and the executive staff want us to know.
I can’t for the life of me imagine that Jerseygate was just shrugged off internally.
If you really put the pieces together though and start thinking in terms that Fisher knows his time is over in Tennessee, then more of this makes sense in that context.
The comment made by Ms. Reese about Fisher almost being fired twice, needs to be investigated further. At what point did this happen? You have to assume one of those times was when fans were screaming for Fisher’s job just before VY turned their season around. Agreed?

Wow, you guys really are jumping to conclusions big time.
I mean, come on. Fisher wearing Manning’s jersey was not a brilliant move but to think that the coach is taking a dive because Adams wants him gone is reaching. I suppose Harper and Finnegan both got injured intentionally so the Titans would have to play less talented guys. I am convinced that Fisher or Heimerdinger (possibly both) don’t want to play Young anymore and whatever their reasons are, they are. Maybe they just don’t like his work ethic, his personality, his dog, whatever. Maybe they actually feel he can’t do the job. Honestly, the person who should be demoted Immediatley is Chuck Cecil. The defense has been a far larger problem as of late. Collins has been terrible this season, no doubt., but VY isn’t going to stop the other team from scoring 50 points. I am not saying he shouldn’t be given an opportunity to play, I am saying there are larger problems than who is at QB.

I'm saying
the easiest and biggest change they can implement is a change of the guy who gets the ball snapped to him on every offensive play. Our D looked like SH!T in 2006 until our offense starting holding on to the ball and giving them some rest.

+1
the argument to play VY to me really is not an argument at all… he 100% should be in there starting next game for this reason and this reason only:
he is owed a huge roster bonus next season if he is on the team, we are 0-6, so we may as well see what we got with vince. either that or we are just going to cut him after this season anyways.
this dosnt mean he is better than KC or that we will have a better chance to win with Vince over KC… all it means is it is the rational decision to make taking into consideration our record and vince’s contract situation.

there are less talented players than nick harper?
by mattd97 on Oct 23, 2009 2:03 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think you're spot on Joy kat.
The offense is taking a lot of risky moves (especially in the passing game) and making big mistakes just trying to keep up with the other team’s scoring because our D just isn’t getting it done at all. Cecil needs to go. Fisher needs to begin calling the defensive plays, and let Dinger get more creative with the offense.

Our offense
literally COULD NOT HAVE DONE MORE to give the Pat’s the game last week. A little ball control and some momentum go a LONG way.
by T the D on Oct 23, 2009 1:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I think....
….we may have a situation where the offense simply needs more talent (whether or not Vince is “more talent” is TBD).
We need help at QB, WR, and to a lesser degree TE (though Cook may ultimately fill that gap). Very soon, we will need a new leader at Center, as well.
Defenses are keying on the run game and short passes, and their efforts are aided by bad passes from the QB and dropped passes by WRs, RBs, and TEs. Everything thrown 20+ yards downfield has been horribly off-target, and I’m not sure Vince will make that stat any better. Our best option at stretching the field right now is our RB, and that’s a hefty handicap to try and overcome.
Simply put, I think we’re being a little too critical right now in saying that our Hyundais need to start running like Lexuses. They’d have a better chance of running with the Lexuses if they had Lexus’ parts to work with.

On that note
Have we ever had a receiver that didn’t have a horrible case of the dropsies?
With all this talk of coach firing, maybe we should be looking at the WR coach (think it was T—Rac that has brought this up in the past?)

Point taken on D-Mase and Wycheck
It’s true, they were great while they were here, although of course I was talking about wideouts and not TE’s.
But two? That’s all you can name for me in twelve years? Two guys? Is there something in the water that makes dudes hands slippery? I’ve come to the conclusion recently that some of our guys can make some jaw dropping spectacular catches and will drop it if it hits them too much in the hands (see: Justin Gage or that halfwit Drew Bennett).
And I agree about Patches O’Houlihan- if you can dodge a wrench, you can catch a ball apparently.

If Tony Dungy thinks VY should start
and Fisher wants so much to impress Dungy, that means he’ll start VY this next game, right?

I wouldn't be suprised to see VY start, I also wouldn't be suprised if Collins plays.
With the closed practices and the coaches being tight lipped, I wouln’t be shocked at anything. We will probably see both QB’s play no matter how the game is going. This next one should prove to be the most interesting game of the year. I wish they were playing this Sunday.
