You wanna make the funnies? Put on Stevie Wonder glasses and pretend to be part of the secondary that got torched for 5TDs in one quarter.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Coach Fisher, on behalf of all like-minded fans, F-you.  Your team is humiliating the city, your attitude in the press has become border-line insulting and the Colts are in the growing line of teams who just embarrassed you on national television.  If this is your attempt at humor it's a big ole' FAIL:

"It was for a very, very worthwhile cause, charity," Fisher said. "I was introducing Tony, just having fun with it and I really apologize if I offended anybody, but if you’re offended over the nature of that type of thing, then I think you need to rethink things.

No Jeff, all signs are pointing towards it being you who needs to rethink things.  If you wanted to make a crack on how bad we are to lossen things up, there are approximately 9,000,000 other jerseys you could wear that aren't representing one of our most bitter division rivals and an annoyingly omnipresent NFL golden boy.

So, in conclusion, F-you.  I can't say I won't ever forgive you, but it ain't going to be today, jerk.  Do some people think this is an over reacction?  Yes, but those folks most likely aren't watching their ream go 0-6 and get waxed  by 59 points*. (clarified from earlier version- AW)

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Clay Travis makes a great point on this issue: if Jim Zorn showed up to a fund-raiser in an Eli Manning jersey he'd get fired on the spot and probably mobbed.  Could you imagine Lane Kiffin or Bobby Johnson showing up anywhere in a Tebow jersey saying they wanted to feel like a winner?  I think not.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 How bad is it?  Deadspin is close to starting it's own Mental Breakdown Watch for coach Fish.

Follow us through the jump for more odds and ends with less vitriol...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Prepping for his expected foray into free agency, LenDale has joined with super-agent Drew Rosenhaus... I guess we now know that Drew's visit to Nashville last week really was about something other than Kearse being benched.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 David Climer pins 0-6 on Fisher, and given his role in personnel, hiring the coaching staff and drafting, it's hard to find much blame to spread.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 This just in, our fall from grace has been a rather fast one.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Just finished watching the full CBS results of their investigation, and it's pretty funny how the NPD pwnd Armen Keteyian the day his big expose started.  Their summary basically explained everything that came our of his 3 month investigation and dispelled some myths about their own investigation, like the fact that they hadn't disclosed the murderer's relationship with the felon who sold her the gun because they're in the process of prosecuting him and didn't see any need to muddy that process.

I do think

that it’s an overreaction and I DO happen to support a team that just lost 59-0. Football isn’t everything, and as much as I think the Titans’ recent performance is likely to give me an ulcer, I can take a joke.

If you can’t laugh at yourself, you are in a very sad state of mind.

In 15 years Fisher has never given any indication that he’s done a single public act without giving is serious thought. Perhaps you should give him the benefit of the doubt that he DID think about this and that he may have even made sure that Bud was ok with it, especially in light of our record. I’m not saying that he did, because I have no way of knowing, but I’d say it’s a real possibility.

And get off your damned high horse. We’ve all done things that seemed like a good idea at the time and ended up pissing off a lot of people around us. Maybe Fisher’s just getting all 15 years’ worth of backlogged gaffes out of the way as quickly as possible.

"Football isn’t everything"

WTF does that have to do with anything? I’m not dumping on his choices outside of football, I’m dumping on what he did as the coach of the Titans (they didn’t invite him out of respect for his ’stache).

I laugh a lot, but usually at things that are funny. That isn’t funny. And I can’t get off my high-horse at the moment because gramsey super-glued me to the saddle.

The argument that football isn't everything

is stupid. No one here is saying that it is, but I have a little piece of news for you…..This is a blog about football and the Tennessee Titans. We can get upset about anything we dang well please. Why is it ok to get upset when the team loses or makes a stupid personnel decision? Is that any less “football isn’t everything?”

That is what being a fan is all about. Maybe you shouldn’t spend time here reading this not everything blog and go out and do something productive with your life.

Yes you can get upset

but we all don’t have to.

I’m a fan, but I don’t take it personally when they suck. If I did, my life would be miserable in years they suck and I’d be all bouncy in years they’re good. I’d be some kind of manic depressive.

That said, I care infinitely more about them being 0-6 then the admittedly poorly timed and in questionable taste manner Fisher chose to introduce Dungy at a charity event. Infinitely. And based on the poll results I’m clearly not alone…

Does that make it any better? If anything, it’s worse. He thought about it long and hard, and then decided it was still a good idea. And, if Adam’s was on board with it, which I doubt he was, then he’s in my doghouse too.

Slow down hos

The jersey, while in bad taste, isn’t my biggest problem.

Fine, if you want to kowtow to Manning fans and wear his jersey to honor Dungy (not Manning) more power to you. Who said he had to wear ANY jersey?

But my biggest problem is the comment: I wanted to feel like a winner. That’s what makes you an asshole, Jeff Fisher.

If you can’t understand the difference, then your basic comprehension skills are pretty low.

Overreacting at the tv

only seems necessary when theres a chance the plays matter and the game is actually close. I toned that behavior down around the jags game. self inflicted increases in blood pressure do no good for anyone, im not trying to raise my risk of stroke or heart attack over a lost season.

Glad you got it all figured out

I don’t need advice from the Internet, TYVM.

You have your reasons, I have mine. Telling people that they’re immature isn’t going to get much done either, now is it? Then again, you probably already knew that….

by TNTitans on Oct 21, 2009 10:59 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

whos giving advice?

I couldnt find it either.
im not trying to get anything done, i know that whining, and complaining on a website about a coach wearing a jersey isnt going to have any outcome on the titans successes or failures. the people need to know how they are acting, as they obviously cannot identify appropriate behavior on their own. I was just looking out for them so they can save face in the real world, where when those words manifest into actual behavior, it isnt tolerated. Atleast in the adult world of real life. Not in the internet world

Interestingly

It reached the point of being funny quickly. The stress I had watching them lose to the Ravens in their playoff exit last year was orders of magnitude greater than watching that circus last Sunday. I have a hard time thinking of the 2009 Titans as an actual football team at this point. They are more like spoof halftime entertainment.

Wow, you make it hard to be civil.

In case you are confused, I am one of those “immature teenagers”, albeit trapped in a 30-yr-old’s body. I was trying to explain to you that I invest myself emotionally in my team and therefore get F’ING PISSED when the coach of that team disrespects that team, its players and therefore my emotions.

You, on the other hand, are not a fan. You are what I call an innocent bystander. You are the guy at the bar trying to sneak-pay his tab while the rest of us are cheering in overtime, just so you can beat the rush.

innocent bystander? how mature of you to call names. I dont need to surround myself with other fans at a bar, to feel confirmed about being a titans fan. If I watch the game at home, or in a sports bar, its no different.

What does that mean anyway?

what good is getting freaked out about jeff fisher wearing a jersey going to do?

I am not trying to do “good.”

I am expressing my dismay at being thrown under the bus by the head coach of my favorite football team. The same guy who, until yesterday, I was defending against all the people who said he should be fired after he just got beat worse than ANY HEAD COACH HAS IN 87 YEARS. And he thinks that I am going to find this funny? It is fine that you think it is OK for the people who you are a fan of to do this. I didn’t talk down to you for it. I don’t understand that, but I didn’t talk down to you for it.

I would be interested in how you would respond if Chris Johnson came out in an Ed Reed jersey. But I guess you would do the “mature” thing and take the high road. And that’s fine, but don’t talk down to me like your ass is perfect because I looked up to Jeff Fisher, and what he has done has hurt me. Fuck you for that.

Or a corner....

or a competent coordinator….or if Fisher is a defensive coach why he won’t take a more active role in the defense….the list goes on and on.

Hal is right from the standpoint that this doesn’t matter when it comes to what goes on on the football field, but it sure does matter when the guy who is responsible for all of the things above does one more thing to piss everyone off. As my grandmother would say, he has become a little too big for his britches. That is the real problem here.

Frankly, I'm losing my interest in discussing this.

That said, I don’t see how you guys can just draw the, “Aw shucks, if we only had a punt returner…” conclusion when there’s obviously so much more going on. And I’m not talking conspiracy theory here. It just seems like the whole organization has completely broken down, and since there’s only one guy who’s in charge, and that guy is in charge of EVERYTHING, then, well… I mean, the conclusion seems obvious. And then, too, my eyes tell me that Fisher looks old and tired on TV.

But by all means, hang on beyond all reason if that’s what’s necessary. For me, I prefer to face each day individually as it comes.

The thing is...

if we had better special teams at the beginning of the season we would have won the Jets and Steelers games. If we were 2-4 instead of 0-6 the horrendous jersey joke wouldn’t be getting near this response. Don’t get me wrong, I think it was in bad taste especially with the timing. If he wanted to make the joke he shoulda fronted the cash for one of the “personalized” jerseys and wore a Colts jersey with Dungy’s name on it. I would have actually appreciated that joke and as Dungy is no longer their coach even th ‘winner’ comment wouldn’t have stung so bad.

I am with Hal on this one. We have so many things to be pissed about that actually makes a difference to whether we win or lose that I’m not worried about the jersey.

Personal history may dull my response to that as well. In High School my coach actually was the assistant principle at the school of our biggest rival. My senior year we just happened to be scheduled against that team for our homecoming and we both were coming into the game undefeated. That whole fricking week Coach wore a ‘Wolfpack’ (their mascott) t-shirt to practice. Of course we were all pissed and when we confornted him he just said “Give me a reason to take it off.”

We beat them 36-6 and at the end of the game Coach gave Bulldog T-shirts to their entire coaching staff. It was worth the slap in the face during that week to motivate us because we were trying to put him in his place. Granted, we were teenagers and Fisher is dealing with grown men who are professionals… but still…you never know.

This is a huge deal, after a 59-0 loss the last thing I wanted to see was our “leader” wearing a Peyton Manning jersey and claiming that he wore it because “he wanted to feel like a winner”. You’ve got to be kidding me Fisher. I’m not fully in Fire Fisher mode and hope this douchebag is on the street as soon as the season is over, that was a spit in the face to a fanbase that was just kicked in the balls by the Patriots on Sunday.

The timing was bad...

it’s not that big of a deal but timing of it was terrible.

If the stunt happened a month after, let’s say, we lose to the Colts in the AFC championship it wouldn’t be big deal, right?

But the fact that Titans are 0-6 right now after a 59-0 stomping and we are currently questioning Fisher’s leadership, the stunt shouldn’t have been done.

Yes, but those folks probably don’t still support with everything they have an 0-6 team that just got waxed by 59 points.

Just because I see the humor in it and don’t completely overreact and keep in mind that what makes Fisher a good or bad Coach is what his team does on the field, doesn’t mean I don’t still support this team with “everything I have”. That’s a pretty stark generalization with nothing behind it. I don’t have to be completely outraged by this to be a “true fan”. In fact, I’m not. I am much more in line with Hal. Who cares? It was a joke. You don’t like the joke? Fine, don’t laugh. Get outraged, whatever. Do what you want. But don’t start generalizing me as someone who doesn’t support this team just because get outraged by 59-0 more than a Peyton Manning joke.

No F-you, August West.

Quite the reactionary type aren’t you? Everyone is upset at how the season is going, and I bet you anything Jeff Fisher is more upset than you. In fact, he actually has something riding on this, unlike yourself. It’s just that he just happens to be calm and rational, an adult you could say, and not an inflammatory windbag seeking a scapegoat. Keep screaming for a new coach. You’ll get what you deserve. Which will be quite unfortunate for the rest of us Titans fans.

You're basically an idiot - let me explain why.

Jeff Fisher is not ACTING like he’s upset, and whether YOU think he should show it to us (the fans) or not is completely irrelevant. If Jeff Fisher gets fired, he collects 12 million dollars under the structure of coaches salaries. So what does he have riding on this? His reputation? He already buttfucked that by wearing Colts blue this week.

But that’s neither here nor there. If you think Fisher doesn’t have to answer his critics, just sit back and enjoy the show because you’re about to be proven way wrong… We’ve got disgruntled ex-staff member’s wives coming out now to share their story about how Fish fucked them over. I wonder who’s next. Fisher has unleashed a shitstorm that will be his eventual undoing.

His arrogant, callous, aloof mannerisms are not asset to anyone, nor are they reflective of his “maturity”. And while he has admittedly not sought a scapegoat, he has not shouldered the blame a single time for his many errors in judgment this season. It’s one thing to fuck up – another one altogether to not “man up” to it.

He did not prepare this team to win. Period.

So go take a fuck at a rolling donut, Gringo, because August isn’t the prick you should be attacking here. You need to direct that bullshit elsewhere.

Gramsey

We don’t all have to react like you. August wrote this attacking Jeff Fisher, somebody who is very popular despite the way this season has gone. August had his reasons, I’m not criticizing him for writing what he wrote, even though I disagree with him. But you can’t be surprised when people get pissed at what he wrote. It was inflammatory. I would bet, and he can correct me if I am wrong, August is well aware that what he wrote is inflammatory. The inverse reaction to his post is to defend Fisher. We don’t HAVE to see it as a slap in the face.

And, as Hal said, I found 59-0 much more of a slap in the face than this jersey. I guess that is the unpopular view.

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 21, 2009 12:33 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

This isn't even close to as bad as the 59-0 beatdown.

To me, though, it’s just this feeling that he has no fear for his job. He can do whatever he wants and get away with it, including wearing a rivals jersey after the worst loss in franchise history. It seems a little tasteless to me. If he did this last year during our winning streak, it wouldn’t even be news. It’s the timing of it that pisses me off.

by SuperHorn on Oct 21, 2009 12:40 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I can understand that

That’s a fair reaction. But people are reacting much more violently over this then over the 59-0 loss. Nobody was throwing out f*** you’s to each other after that loss. And August wasn’t saying “f*** you, Fisher,” after that loss, so the conclusion I come to is people are more pissed about the jersey stunt than the loss.

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 21, 2009 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Can't speak for everyone

But I certainly am very upset about the 59-0 beatdown. That said, I am also upset about Fisher wearing the jersey.

It’s called “insult to injury”, which as you see, is the title of the article.

If we were 6-0, would people be as upset? I probably would not be- I would think it was a pretty sucky thing to do, but probably have a better sense of humor about it.

But it’s insult to injury.

by TNTitans on Oct 21, 2009 12:46 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think it's just a lot more polarizing.

Everyone can agree that 59-0 is awful.

However, some fans still support Fisher. That’s fine. My issue is that I can’t see any coach that is in fear of losing his job and coaching with some sense of urgency pulling a stunt like this.

by SuperHorn on Oct 21, 2009 12:47 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

59-0 was obviously way worse

but given what we’ve seen that was probably more expected than this… I thought that might be the score of the Indy game.

I literally just went to bed at the end of the game. I didn’t expect it at all, especially when I saw the snow. I expected 27-10. Maybe even 37-10. But 59-0…. I did not expect that.

And, yes, I am touchy as hell. Have none of the players come out saying anything? I’m wondering how they are feeling.

by the_butler on Oct 21, 2009 1:21 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think..

the purpose of the Manning jersey was because he is an active player, and currently winning. Tony’s not coaching or currently winning anything, so the vest doesn’t work, nor does a jersey of a former player who isn’t currently winning.

Fisher wearing the jersey was more offensive than when he glided in on a parachute

last season. The parachuting in to the practice facility was a grandstand move and so is this. When your team is sucking this badly and you put on a Peyton Manning jersey, it says I have given up and thats that. So, I am in agreement with August on this one.

i just dont think

someone who has proven to be a highly respectable and successful coach over the last decade should be fired over one season. this is the first time ever fisher has let the wheels fall of like this and I think he should be given the chance to fix it in the coming offseason.

probably the only thing i would write in stone is that Dinger has to go. the defense has its problems, but the offense is inexcusably bad and it all goes back to the asinine gameplan that Dinger has gone with.

The Dual Threat, Official Enforcer/Stat Geek of MCM.

by hal41605 on Oct 21, 2009 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

It's why I add the caveat "if the season ended today"

If Fisher turns the team around and they finish well, I’d say keep him.

If we finish 2-14 though, I think he has to go. I think one season can be a fireable offense if it is bad enough after a 13-3 campaign. They rebuilt the team and if it falls apart that quickly that badly, then something is definitely wrong.

I think 59-0 is a symptom of a bigger problem, and if Fisher can’t find a way to reach these players, then why would he reach them next year?

I ask this: Why would Kenny Britt listen to a word coming out of this coaching staff’s mouth at this point?

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 21, 2009 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm in agreement with Hal on this...

…I think Fisher deserves the chance to right things. When I look at this debacle, last years Jags team comes to mind. Last year they were coming off a spectacular season, and were early favorites for the super bowl, but then things came apart on them. They had injuries, players accused of lack of effort, one player in particular calling out the coach, and the coach’s job was being called for. But, they rode it out, stuck with the coach, and their record this season looks like it will be improved from last. Which is what seems to have happened to us, spectacular season last year, some early super bowl picks, then we all know the rest too well, lol. So far though, none of the players have called out Jeff. At least not that I know of, and if that doesn’t happen, I’m taking it as a good sign.

by J3G77 on Oct 21, 2009 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

good point.......as of now
So far though, none of the players have called out Jeff.

Other than Kearse leaving the stadium, no players have been vocal to the press.

Why is this? Do they really still believe in him or do they fear they’ll be deactivated?

I agree that the Manning joke was wrong.

Clearly he had that joke planned in advance of the 59-0 game. I doubt he would just go out Monday and purchase a Manning Jersey (that would be even more sadistic).

The PROBLEM is that his decision making can give fans the impression that his sense of timing is waaaayyy off.

During the Jeff Fisher show last night, he purposely looked into the camera everytime he defended himself like he was “Stuart Smalley – Al Franken, SNL”. To me that was more offensive. He comes off as if he’s trying to convince himself of some fantasy everytime he speaks.

If B.S. was a currency, Fisher would be a milllionaire (oh, wait, he already is).

As far as being fired, I personally think it’s time if for nothing other than the fact that we’ve had 16 years of Fisherball and only 3 division championships (1 AFC Central, 2 AFC South). That ain’t too good! And, so far this season we ain’t gettin’ no closer.

Harper was vocal to the press and didn't get deactivated

And the reason why others haven’t been vocal in the press is because it isn’t right or professional, and they’re playing just as badly as he is coaching.

Name me one player who was vocal to the press about the failures of a coach that wasn’t contract related?

No other jersey would have been funny...

It was a Tony Dungy event. It’s only funny that he wore another team’s jersey because it’s a Colts jersey at an event held by the guy that coached the Colts to success. On the football field, Dungy is a proven winner. The leader of his team, Manning, is a proven winner. Especially this year, Fisher is not.

Now as a Titans fan, I don’t think it’s particularly funny at all. However, wearing some irrelevant team’s jersey just doesn’t make sense. That doesn’t make for an interesting joke in the context in which the joke was delivered. The jersey stunt was just not a good idea period.

I think Fisher’s point was to acknowledge Dungy’s success at the expense of his own current failures. I suspect that if there were such a thing as a Tony Dungy Colts jersey, he would have worn that instead of the #18. Fisher’s mistake is that he did not calculate how it looks in regard to making fun of the entire franchise, not simply himself. He should have come up with a line that more directly reflected back on his own failure as a coach without risking lumping the rest of the team in with himself.

One thing I don’t like is Fisher’s excuse that it was for charity. I just don’t buy it. It’s not like people donated $5 each to charity for the chance to see Fisher in a Manning jersey. It’s not like it was a friendly bet to have to wear the opponent’s jersey in public at the end of the season if your record was worse. His stunt did not raise a dime for Rocketown. His name being on the flier as a special guest and his plea for support for the organization (if there was one) was the extent of the charity work.

When your team starts out with a record like this many positions are on

the chopping block, and that includes the head coach. It’s not like all these games were lost by three points. The last two were absolute blow outs. I would be very worried if I were on the Titans coaching staff.

Was out of town when this happened and got the news today. I gotta say, while I agree most coaches would never get away with this, I don’t think it’s that bad.

Most of us typed out of some kind of mid-shock reaction during the Pat’s thread, and I think we all are pretty damned disappointed with the season. And yes, football is not everything TO US. Or at least it shouldn’t be. It’s not our careers. None of us can feel like winners OR losers because we aren’t good enough to “f’ing” play. We’re just fans. I’m happy to have them to route for. And if your life outside of work doesn’t extend beyond sports, maybe this is the time to expand your horizons.

Make no mistake, it’s just a game and this is just a blog. Sorry to offend the “main bloggers” who feel they’re participation in this some how lifts their social status.

And yes, if Fisher wants to feel like a winner he should get his team to win a damn game.

For me, I hate that we’re a punch line. But at the same time, I thought it was kind of funny. I hate seeing Peyton in all those damn commercials, and I hate that commentators habitually lick his balls. But he’s a great QB. Prove me wrong.

In the end, I think being a whiney bitch is worse than laughing at yourself. So HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

When the Titans win a game, you can go back to bitching about how no one gives our team any respect.

And I still think Faith Hill SUCKS! and not in a good way.

Manning Jersey

How would Fisher feel if all the Titans fans show up at the next home game wearing Manning Jersey’s…just because the fans want to feel part of a winning team for a day!! Disrepecful to say the least Jeff.

Oh, and what does everyone think Fisher’s reaction would have been if Vince or one of the other Titans had done the same thing.
