Tennessee Titans Afternoon Links: When 0-6 Feels Like 0-59 Edition

Tennessee_titans_30x21 David Climer writes his first good column in years:  This is the worst Titans team ever.  Now, I do caution against people judging this team too early.  It'll be games against less talented teams like San Francisco, St. Louis, Buffalo and Seattle, combined with how we play the second time through our division, that define this team for me.  I'd still take them over the 2004 and 2005 squads.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 While some part of me still hopes Bill Belicheat gets hit by a truck some day, I can't fault him for running up the score yesterday.  I'll say the same thing I said when they were doing it in 2007: if you don't like it, stop them.  This isn't college where resources and personnel are wildly different from team to team, and when the playing field is level, pity is more insulting than destruction in my book.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Sitting at 0-6, and having just been creamed by 59 points, how could wholesale changes not be on the way?  As Jimmy and I discussed last night I wouldn't expect to see coaching changes, but I didn't expect to see this terrible display either so who knows anymore...

Follow us through the jump for more info on the Steve McNair piece CBS is running tomorrow...

Star-divide

Tennessee_titans_30x21 The Tennessean has the early part of the CBS Steve McNair report, and it's real effin' dumb.  Of course the people who loved her don't think she could do this, but that doesn't change the fact that she did.  As for the new evidence?  This gem from the comments section says it all:

"Watch more tomorrow. I will expose how Kazemi was actually watched 'Weekend at Bernies', not 'Weekend at Bernie's II' as was reported in the police report, the Tuesday before McNair was shot".

This report brought to you by Highlights, the children's magazine that you used to read as a kid in the dentist's office and look for differences between the two pictures on the back.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Peter King uses his sources to give us a different preview of the CBS expos that's coming out tomorrow morning.

3. I think it'll be interesting to watch Armen Keteyian's story on the CBS morning show Tuesday, because it could prove there was something more than a casual business relationship between Steve McNair's girlfriend, Sahel Kazemi, and Adrian Gilliam Jr., the man who sold Kazemi the gun she used to kill McNair and herself.

Keteyian, an investigative reporter with CBS News, will report that there was more than the "casual, happenstance'' relationship described by Nashville police between Gilliam and Kazemi. Rather, I'm told the report will reveal "a stunning number of phone calls and text messages'' between the two in the days leading up to the murder/suicide. So now the story gets deeper. At the very least, it could force police to confront why they didn't find the phone records that Keteyian found, and to delve into what they mean.

So, our options are still down to the girlfriend who obviously did this, and ninjas.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 Former front office man turned journo-blogger Mike Lombardi says we should expect a few calls as the trade deadline approached this year:

If I were working in the NFL today, I might want to call the Titans since it looks like they might be offering all their players in a fire sale.

The fire sale idea isn't the worst in the world

If we find a way to shop Chris Hope or Thornton to a team that thinks they’re one good player away from being a contender, we could score some valuable draft picks.

However, who the f*** would trade for the guys a blame most on the defense (rookies aside): Vandenbosch, Kearse, and Harper. Who would trade for them? Seriously?

Frankly, I wouldn’t be against trading Bulluck to a contender. He deserves it…

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 19, 2009 3:55 PM CDT reply actions

Did Lombardi

Honestly, I think Vandenbosch, Kearse, and Harper might be done in the NFL. We took a chance on a group of creaky old dudes and it came back to bite us in the ass.

As much as it pains me to agree, I think T—Rac and Lombardi are right. Unload guys like Bulluck for some picks and start rookies and/or other talent over the three aforementioned for the rest of the season (if I’m not mistaken, all three of their contracts are up this year?) Then it’s cut-city.

by TNTitans on Oct 19, 2009 4:05 PM CDT up reply actions

Lombardi never suggested those three, by the way

I was just saying that if the team had a firesale, those three wouldn’t be worth ANYTHING.

listen d*ckheads

all I’m doing is what you guys are doing which is blogging (providing opinion).

Specific to Vince Young, his body language has actually been a topic of conversation and a way to decipher his “it” factor.

Why is it not fair to read into Fisher’s body language? How can a coach be emotionless when he gets the worst whipping of his life time? I think it’s a fair point.

Just because you have a “title” as coach or whatever on this blog, doesn’t mean I’m speaking directly to you.

I’m going to read Fisher’s body language since that seems to be the criteria for judging people here.

I often forget that the majority of people blogging on this site do not live in the local Nashville media market.

If you did, you know that Vince Young’s body language has become the criteria for determining his worth.

The local radio talk show on 104.5 The Zone even as recent as today – passed judgment on whether VY should play based on if “looked” like he wanted to go into the game last night.

In my opinion, Jeff Fisher’s body language is fair game.

When I said “here”, I was referring to this situation (question of Fisher’s status).

Clearly, blogging can easily be misinterpreted.

FOR THE RECORD

If I want to call you out, I’ll do it by name.

I can see in no way that my comment was “trying to start an argument.”

To BonzosMontreax – I’m sorry, I don’t speak French

To Gramsey – you’re incredibly annoying as well

To Jimmy – clearly if anyone should know what I’m talking about, it’s you. Maybe you should take a break from blogging???

For when you sober up – Here’s the entire conversation and post made by Jimmy regarding VY’s body language in which you discuss that VY has been judged by his body language.

yes it has been discussed by the nashville media

my point is no one around here has taken it seriously or put any stock into it. jimmy linked a prominent titans beat writer and everyone pretty much agreed it was sketchy at best, gossip at worst. and yet somehow you interpret this as some harebrained reason to throw shots at jimmy and make obnoxious comments about how you thought jeff fisher looked on tv, as if anyone gives a damn, in order to make some stupid point about the nashville media that everyone has already basically agreed about anyway. it’s tiresome, move on.

I never made a shot at Jimmy as you can see from my previous comments which you seem to ignore

You and every other “coach” on this blog interpreted my post incorrectly.

Once again, you are lying. I don’t mind trying to call me out, but don’t so blatantly lie. I never mentioned Jimmy.

As far as obnoxious comments, the more I read your posts I’m deciphering the only person here who is obnoxious in attitude is you. You seem to think you are some type of bully on here.

Maybe you should add “Triple Threat – Official Bully, Enforcer, Stat Geek”

Also, if you would Google search “Vince Young body language”, you will see that much of the criticism against Young has been body language.

My point, Fisher was emotionless during the worst ass kicking of his lifetime which I am discovering after researching your posts, this is nothing you would be guilty of personally. :)

Just inexcusable

Long time reader, first time poster. I’ve been reading “MCM” for awhile now and I really appreciate all of the work you guys put in to producing such great content and a day to day basis.

However, that’s about the only thing positive about the season right now.

Honestly, its time for Fisher to go. He should no longer be the head coach of the Tennessee Titans after yesterday’s debacle. Either through his own resignation or his firing, an 0-6 start with a team that was supposed to be a major contender is inexcusable, especially when it culminates with a 59-0 raping. To think, the fact that he said that this team was the best he’d had in Nashville prior to this season is just laughable at this point. And, from watching the team, its pretty obvious they’ve given up and I think he’s lost the locker room. He needs to go. I do like the guy and he’s given us some great memories, but the Titans need new blood. And a new quarterback.

I feel it is time for him to go. I like Fisher, but his time is over. He lost control

of the team. The defense is in the worst shape of any NFL defense and of course I know that with our secondary being decimated with injuries it doesn’t help at all. Kerry Collins can’t get it done when guys are dropping passes Our backs can’t hold on to the football. Hopefully some serious changes will be made this week. Whether or not they help, I don’t care, shake things up and maybe the next game will go better. I thought early on it was just special teams that needed help along with tweaking the defense, but it goes way beyond that now. Is anyone working on a time machine so we can go back and change things and start the season over?

Still ten games left

Things definitely need to change. Maybe he can still turn the team around. You never know. It’s a long season. Right now, at this point, we are the worst team in the league. Just thinking that about my Titans makes me sick.

lol @ 59 to 0

i still wear my titans windbreaker. vince young is going to start from here on out iam sure of it. we will get a win or 2 and hopefully suck so bad we can actualloy get a qb that can throw on a cosistant basis.
bud adams must have lost his ass in the stock market and dosnt want to spend money to bring in players that can actually play. odem is leading the nfl in sacks. why do we let people go that are good only to replace them with something not as good so we can save money. spend some money and bring in somebody that can actually play well and when you got somebody that plays well KEEP THEM!. and whats up with the recivers? every single one of them sucks. britt? more like britney spears put her ass out there and do just as good. why is alge crumpler even on this team? gage sucks to. only person i see showing some fire is lendale.
we need to start vy and cj and the new tight end and let these young guys have a shot at it.
i bet vy is so pissed at fisher hes like i dont want to play for you cus he will probally pout and put in a half assed performance. the chemistry on this team sucks and it starts at the top. i bet bud fires fisher cus fisher and vy dont get along and bring in somebody that can get vince young todo something. i would personally like bill cowher

0-6, 59 pt ass whoopin, et.

yeah theres a laundry list of problems with this team right now, its becoming the norm week after week. but we just have to hope that what we all saw sunday, which was pitiful, will not happen again and is the final….FINAL straw. and that the coaching staff, players, EVERYBODY just woke up, b/c its one thing to give up, but its another to just let what happened happen and not feel something inside you to make the nec. adjustments, i dont want a player on this titan team that doesn’t have some kind of pride. and with that the bye week comes at the perfect time, players will get a high percentage healthier that need it, and players will come back (finny most importantly imo, will always play with heart, and hopefully can step up as a true leader). and most importantly its gives them time to work together as a group since we know who were going to war with for sure now, since we know harp and vinny will need more time. and personally id like for the switch to VY to happen automatically as most of you may know, so that he can get straight to work. but unfortunately i still have this small feeling KC will still be behind center come the JAX game (sighs, shakes head).

but hey at the end of the day, take a deep breath, soak it all in…..and say F**K IT!!! Bring on the jags, can’t wait for round 2.

sincerely, Titans fan.

What motivation is there to start VY?

d When VY came in, it didn’t get any better, so why play him? Either QB isn’t going to make things happen when the secondary is so terrible. The receivers have to catch a ball that comes near them, and the backs have to hold on to the rock. It isn’t that complicated. These guys are just playing like they don’t give a crap whether they win or not.

Collins had his turn at the wheel

and the team did not respond. He just came off his worst outing ever (although I didn’t check this stat) and you want to run him out there again? You lead the wave against a QB before, so don’t be stunned that Collins get sucked down by the undertow from the same wave.

by Baha on Oct 20, 2009 12:13 AM CDT up reply actions

why play him....

why not??? yeah receivers are dropping passes, but KC’s decision making has been bad all season, his int’s(which is almost as much as all last year) are not tipped balls from his wideouts hes making bad throws. theres no grey area, its either drop back and if right away i dont like my first maybe my second read its in the stands, theres no trying to make a play or trying to pick up SOME yards when the play breaks down. you put in vince so you can have both dynamics, legs that have the ability to make ppl miss and is just as lighting as CJ is. And despite what ppl say 57% completion rate is pretty good, and thats with the sh**ty ass WR’s that we had in the past that were dropping way more balls than what were seeing now and tip drills that led to most of those picks on his record. int’s happen, take a look at how mark sanchez is doing now, he’ll back bounce most likely but that just goes to show what kind of walls young players can hit. nobody’s seen the second coming of VY yet b/c it actually hasnt happened yet, ppl are going based on the little pieces here the little pieces there, how about a string of actual real NFL games as evidence to go based on. sorry to say KC is done, maybe he can bounce back there is that chance, but let that be next year. give VY the reigns, he’s led us before which ppl have seem to have forgotten.

b/c dont forget ppl, when KC came in after VY’s injury, that was the SECOND STRING QB coming in for the STARTING QB. not to hate on what KC did for us last year, but our D saved him alot, and it was a good run dont get me wrong. but now the run is long gone, and were back to where we started, how about we put back in the starting QB again. instead of the back up with his new contract.

You wanna start somewhere?

Just focus on one positive thing and make it happen. CJ is 30 yards off the rushing lead. Just focus on getting him yards and getting him the title. It’s a point to rally around. But you can’t just smash him into the line. He doesn’t have that kind of build or durability. LenDale has to be in there to keep them honest on the inside. Vince should be involved too to give the defense another dimension to be forced to defend and maybe get a flukey first down every once and a while. Hey, if your receivers aren’t catchng the ball, what use is Collins? Develop a little more dynamic game plan. But please, no wildcat. Wildcat works with a running back at the QB spot. Vince is not durable enough to take the beating like a Ronnie Brown. Just focus on getting CJ the title and make something special of this mess. Maybe on focusing on this one goal, this team might find itself again and find confidence in the talent they have. There are two weeks to put together a game plan for the Jags.
