The Titans continue to provoke life's deepest questions; like, Paper or Plastic?

Tennessee_titans_30x21 At least we saw VY last night, even if the results were rough... it's worth noting that VY got almost no warm-up time on the sideline according to the account given by Mike Keith and Frank Wycheck on the radio.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5?  Too late.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? FAIL.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Hopeless.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Schooled.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Off-key.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Disaster.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Sinking.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Unpossible.

Tennessee_titans_30x21 0-5? Jerk.

Yup
Jeff Fisher has been adamant that new defensive coordinator Chuck Cecil isn’t the problem, but at this point it’s hard to believe that. With the exception of the loss of Haynesworth, this is largely the same group of players that were one of the best defenses in the league last year. Now, they’re one of the worst, and now they have 11 games to figure out how to fix that. If not, it’s hard to see how Cecil’s not a one-year coordinator.

so

fisher thinks cecil isn’t the problem and kerry isn’t the problem.

WHAT!?

promoted to incompetence

it happens in the corporate world all the time….and it appears to be here as well. I think Cecil is very much the issue but Schwartz bombed his first year as well and look how long it took him to find his way.

actually....

the team looked better than i thought they would. though that probably tells you how low my expectations were. not sure if it’s me being too partial or not, but i thought the 2 roughing the passer calls were crap, especially the one on Ford. i wish the league would just put some damn flags on the QBs skirts and use that to determine a sack if they’re going to be calling $hit like that.

I just read the last story there, its interesting that teams coaches who have more wins than the titans do, are more in danger of losing their jobs than fisher is. Why is he immune from any of this discussion.
Since the season is pretty much over, unless the impossible happens, has anyone though about who the titans may draft with out first and 3rd round picks?

by CarlosLehder on Oct 12, 2009 9:58 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We've thought about it

but it helps to know the draft order and who is entering the draft.

why? because we fans have short memories.

I seem to recall hearing the same stuff about fisher near the end of ‘07. then ’08 he’s a genius. if we would have followed the conventional wisdom of the rest of the league, last year probably wouldnt have happened (i enjoyed most of it!) and we could easily wind up in the same revolving door that teams like the raiders are in.

You mean the team that is the 2009 version of the Miami Dolphins

only to come crashing down in 2010 and everyone will begin questioning what is going on?

i dont think we'll have to wait that long with the broncos.

Agreed

But there are some things that we CAN fix, and those things are not being done.

Granted, I do not have a red telephone that links directly to Fisher’s ear, and he probably doesn’t give a ratbird’s ass about what I think, but when times are tough, people will complain.

You have to admit, however, that Collins is playing like utter crap, whether or not you think that VY is the answer (I only mention this especially because you defended Fisher and Collins in your post: sorry if I put words in your mouth).

by TNTitans on Oct 12, 2009 11:20 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I agree that KC is not getting it done on his end, TNTitans.

He’s being called on to pass too much for his capabilities because we can’t get the running game going. I’m a big CJ fan, but I can admit that LenDale is getting the shaft as far as carries this season goes, and it’s hurting us. We need that power to accentuate the speed.

I’m not convinced that VY is the answer for bringing us back from the brink this season, but I agree with others that it would at least finally answer the question of whether or not he’s matured and improved as a player and deserves to stick around after this season, once and for all.

disagree

Collins has the 2nd most interceptions in the league, behind jake delhomme, whos team even has a win. I guess y’all have forgotten the jets and texans game, when it was fisher who decided to keep ryan moutin returning kicks/punts even after terrible performances at each, and only into the fourth game of the season decides to bring in someone with experience, after finally letting go of Chris Henry, who he kept over an experienced return man. Those decision aren’t those of the players.
Pass defense is the worst we all know, and “there’s a ton of injuries,” but the colts also have a ton of injuries in their secondary, and are 5-0. They’ve been without Marlin Jackson, Kelvin Hayden, and Bob Sanders defensive player of the year. They seem to be able to make due with rookie corners, and arguably their best defense player sidelined.
Jeff Fisher promoted chuck cecil to d coordinator, colts have a new d coordinator, with rookie cb’s the majority of the season thus far, and are undefeated. At what point will things become his fault?

by CarlosLehder on Oct 12, 2009 12:01 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

well stated

you can only play with the players on your team. this is the nfl, everyone has injuries. the young/inexperienced guys will only get their experience by playing. everyone on this team needs to step up if we’re going to do better than the Lions last year.

100% Agree

What little Lendale was in there he did his job quite well. Even Collinsworth (God how I hate that man) made the comment that the difference in the game between Lendale and CJ was that CJ got knocked back while Lendale would fall forward for another yard each run.

I Love CJ, but Lendale would have been at least a little safer.

by Titan in WV on Oct 12, 2009 12:41 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I GOT IT!

Fisher and Heimerdinger are scheming to lose every game on purpose cause they hate all our quarterbacks.

That can be the only reason that they didn’t run LenDale 35 times last night.

And it can be the only reason for this 3 and out:

1st and 10: LenDale up the gut for 5
2nd and 5: LenDale up the gut for 4
3rd and 1: Deep pass overthrown to Washington
4th and 1: Punt

See! It makes perfect sense!

I am so numb, August West.

0-5?!? Really!?!? ZERO-AND-FIVE?!?!
I never would have believed this before the season started — NEVER.

There are so many things that just sum it all up in a sad way. Some examples have been given above. My anecdote is this: When the Defense/Special Teams was playing well and forcing turnovers, what did the Offense do? Settled for field goals - never even thought about going for it (no matter what the situation) on fourth-and-short. Then, eventually, the defense reverted back to its 2009 “bend and break” form, and the Colts pulled away.

Every time a team gives us a chance to deliver a haymaker this year, we settle for a jab. Then we put-up our gloves over our faces and hope we can run-out the full 12 rounds without getting knocked-out. It’s not working.

There has to be an adjustment made along the way by our staff – they have to prove they are capable of winning games again without the #1 defense in the NFL, and without having the luxury of being ahead for the last ten minutes of every game. This is what coaching is all about — finding ways to win when you otherwise might not. It seems our strategy is simply to keep doing what isn’t working until it finally starts working. I think we’d be better off right now trying to FIND things that work

For example: against the Colts, LenDale was working; Chris Johnson was not. The early blitzes were working; going back to permanent base defense was not. Washington as a downfield threat may work, but he’s not doing well as a “possession receiver.”

Other examples of trying things to see if they work: Britt has the most upside of anyone in the WR corps, and should probably be starting at 0-5. You know the arguments in favor of Vince at this point. How about some creative, non-vanilla offensive plays from Mike H.? Even our play-action these days looks half-hearted. Perhaps a more aggressive defensive scheme, if only for a little while – say, tweaking the base defense with some additional blitzing?

It just seems now like the staff has this idea that if we ram the iceberg really, really, REALLY hard this time, maybe this time the iceberg will sink instead of the ship. Maybe, just maybe, it might be a better idea this year to find alternate routes to point B than through the iceberg?

We hear a lot from Fisher about who isn’t “the problem:” Cecil, Collins, Gage, etc. Maybe not being “the problem” is no longer good enough justification for not finding-out if there are better options available in the future.

the only good thing....

that i got from this game was seeing VY under center with Lendale at tailback….and we were moving the chains! does everybody know what happens if KC’s in the same situation where VY picked up the first? your right if you said we punt the ball, b/c that ball would have ended up behind the benches. and if it wasnt for nate dropping the ball (which was put in a good spot for him to go get it) we would have picked up the first again. not alot of ppl want to put KC in the group of problems, but c’mon now, this is probably the weakest we’ll see the colts in a while and our “best chance to win” can only muster 9 points? id listen to tony dungy, regardless of what ppl say, hes a good coach and a good person.

only problem....

with this is that the Cults dropped into prevent defense. they were happy to give us 10-12 yards as long as we didn’t move too far down the field. i was glad to see VY in the game, but we can’t read too much into his few plays.

that said, from what i could tell, it looked like the same ol’ VY to me. one pass at a receivers feet, and one into his hands that he dropped. i’d say the best play for him was when he ran to pick up the first and got out of bounds. it was good to see him look down field and, after not finding an open man, pick up the first with his feet.

i still think we need to start KC this week against the Pats. But I would have no problem with seeing VY under center at times. Even if it’s not a “wildcat” formation, just mix it up and see if there’s a spark. ESPECIALLY if we struggle early. At this point, what’s to lose?

by Evanbio on Oct 12, 2009 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

is there anything to tell you....

that we wont struggle early. c’mon ppl, whatever little evidence everybody was using to justify that KC should be our starter has gone out the window. yeah his receivers dropped some balls this year, but other completions he has made his receivers have bailed him out. just as the case was last night, overthrows, underthrows, not even close throws (other than the colts DB’s) and alot of the saving was done by scaife which KC better had been lucky he was out there. its just funny how much faith ppl put into this guy which never really was good throughout his career, if he was he would have stayed in one place longer.

we got 1 first down. settle down. I’m all for playing VY as anybody else, but he didn’t exactly set the world on fire.

b/c...

he didnt have the time, once again it was garbage time. im ready to see VY full time, get this joke (KC) out of the game. and to ebio, of course his passes werent going to be perfect, he just came off the bench. what did you expect, if ppl can wait 5 games for KC to pick it up (and he hasnt come close) then we can wait a game or 2 for VY.

Look, we all agree VY should play

But you’re acting like his one 1st down was this great moniker of amazing things to come when he got one first down scrambling, then got a drop (which also has happened to Collins), then threw two terribly inaccurate passes.

I think VY should play, but all we are going to get is Kerry Collins with a couple extra first downs from scrambling, and until Vince proves otherwise, we shouldn’t expect more than that.

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 12, 2009 3:03 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

are you missing....

that he only played one series, and yes im talking about him picking up the first down, who gives a f**k if he gets it by throwing or scrambling…he’s moving the chains. i dont care if he picks up the TD w/ his legs given the chance, its points on the board(right????), something KC could not do for 3 and 3/4 qtrs. and VY knows more than anybody on the titans staff about dropped ball by his receivers, so dont try and use that for collins too. and “until” is what exactly what me and ALOT of others are waiting for.

you're the one missing he only played one series

Your exact quote was "the only good thing….that i got from this game was seeing VY under center with Lendale at tailback….and we were moving the chains! "

My point is, yeah, he moved it once. Then he didn’t, and the team punted. There was nothing to gain from that. You’re taking too much from it, not me. I took nothing from it. You’re responding like the offense is cured.

by T--Rac's Posse on Oct 12, 2009 3:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

and i wasnt lying....

after seeing collins all game, that was the only bright spot. yeah he moved it and then the team punted, but what you forgot was the last part, and then the game ended. a qb needs more than 2 series to be successful(not according to KC), even greats go 3 and out so dont act like youve never seen it before when VY does it. let him play a full game or 3 since were giving KC the benefit of the doubt, and then assess.

Ok I wasnt able to watch the game and theres alot of stuff to read yet. But lets see VY was in for a total of what 6 plays and got 1 first down from what I seen on ESPN. So thats a rate of what about 17% of the time….I know that sucks…But whats KC rate? Has to be worse then that

Maybe Bud will make Jeff trade KC for a 7th round pick before the deadline….Or a 7th round pick in the 2015 draft……Always hope
